So let's get this straight: it's a higher priority to attack an organization that fired a couple of their corrupt members when found to be in the wrong than to attack an organization that DEFENDED their employees after multiple women were raped by them, imprisoned those victims, and denied them their rights to defend their image?

I just want to be totally clear that you're saying that choice is "brilliant".
No-bid/ Cost-plus??? | 12:37 a.m. Nov. 4, 2009
Halliburton has defrauded America out of BILLIONS AND BILLIONS! You would think "conservatives" would be all over this, but Bushco fooled you using FEAR.
Gordon | 3:44 a.m. Nov. 4, 2009
Beck wouldn't know the truth if it bit him on any of his cheeks. He is the far right's version of Chicken Little always crying about something. Even Faux News does not list Beck, Hannity or OReilly as part of their news...they are their own daily infomercial. Anyone who sees them as otherwise is delusional.

Jennifer, my experience has been that truth, if there is such a thing in the public square, takes a whole lot of persistence and diligence to uncover. Listening to any one broadcaster/entertainer ain't gonna get you there. There's are no short cuts.
dave | 7:00 a.m. Nov. 4, 2009
Beck attracts the lowest common denominator. He is entertainment and nothing more. It would be silly to take anything he says seriously.
What? | 7:10 a.m. Nov. 4, 2009
The Govt. Health care project of Obama will make Halliburtons supposed rapes look like a little tea paarty. When will the libs learn that the govt. itself is the problem?
And ACORN is much more than a couple of employees saying the wrong thing to the wrong people. It, in conjuction with SEIU is the corrupt arm of the DNC, paid for by our tax dollars to "get out the voter fraud." Doesn't matter to the sheeple on the left.
Anonymous | 7:31 a.m. Nov. 4, 2009
Jennifer, Glen Beck makes hundreds of millions of dollars deluding people like you. He's a modern-day sophist--he doesn't care about the truth. Go somewhere else for your news; he's a waste of time.
Anonymous | 7:31 a.m. Nov. 4, 2009
Beck brilliant? Uh, not so. Do you know anything about Halliburton, by the way? The conservatives are the ones who have ripped of the American public. Where's Beck on this? AWOL.
Ignorant criticism. | 7:44 a.m. Nov. 4, 2009
Another Beck basher who doesn't watch him enough to know anything.Beck has stated and proved countless times that he is against republican and democrat corruption. He reigned criticized upon Bush long before Obama came into power.
Not delusional | 7:53 a.m. Nov. 4, 2009
Ever hear of Van Jones? I never did until Beck uncovered him. For sure the MSM didn't have a clue or were comfortable with him in the administation and wouldn't cover his story. Good for Beck and Fox News.
ghost33 | 7:59 a.m. Nov. 4, 2009
Yeah he's brilliant alright, I'm still waiting for the FEMA concentration camps...
Hypocrisy | 8:01 a.m. Nov. 4, 2009
Jennifer, what "truth" are you talking about? That our President has a deep rooted hatred against white culture? What evidence even supports that anyway?

The only thing he does brilliantly is be a rodeo clown. He rallies his nutcake base and irritates everyone else.

Truth and Beck should never be used in the same sentence.
to 7:53 | 8:32 a.m. Nov. 4, 2009
Yes I have heard of Van Jones. He is one of the many windmills blech likes to tilt at.

Joseph McCarthey would be so proud.
Ernest T. Bass | 8:34 a.m. Nov. 4, 2009
Beck is not a news reporter. Beck is a fear mongerer and borderline sociopath. He was not in favor of the bill preventing the US from contracting with companies who do not protect women from rape.
How can ANYONE justify that? Beck condones rape in he views.
Glenn boy | 8:42 a.m. Nov. 4, 2009
His persona makes the liberals cringe. They ignore the corruption and duplicity Beck has exposed and focus on the messenger. It's easier than answering the questions he has raised. Blame the doctor for diagnosing cancer!
Confused | 8:58 a.m. Nov. 4, 2009
Hypocrisy,
Is that why Beck rating Numbers grow and grow as you leftist type thinkers keep saying that he a rodeo clown?

Fox News has more viewership than MNBC and CNN combined. Their democratic viewership is around 30 percent.

So exactly why is the rating number so high for Fox and not the leftist media? Could it have something to do with that most americans are NOT Liberal?

I find it amusing that you the minority think that we the Majority knows what's best. LOL
Beck and Goebbels | 9:10 a.m. Nov. 4, 2009
Beck (and the rest of the extremist pundits) appeals to the same type of person that Joseph Goebbels appealed to.
"If you tell a lie big enough and keep repeating it, people will eventually come to believe it" said Goebbels.
The lie this time around: Liberals (aka Democrats) want to destroy the country.
Anonymous | 9:13 a.m. Nov. 4, 2009
are you lidding me with this letter, you talk about your double speak.
Dutchman | 9:20 a.m. Nov. 4, 2009
Beck asks questions most of us want answered. He never claims to have all the answers. He certainly has his opinions. His quests are usually faculty members from Columbia University, the University of Chicago, New York University, other members of the media, former federal prosecutors etc, etc and for the most part they agree with his analysis. Are Beck's critics smarter than these people? And why won't those that know answer his questions? Because they are cowards.
Tools | 9:27 a.m. Nov. 4, 2009
Beck's followers: tools
Beck's case against Van Jones included lying (called him a criminal who spent time in prison) and indicting him for statements he made many years ago. Beck didn't examine or explore Jones more recent writings and ideas. We didn't know much about Van Jones before Beck targeted him and there is still much we don't know about Jones because that is where the information stopped. Beck's campaign against Van Jones was prompted by Color of Change's (which Jones had co-founded) campaign against Beck.

But Republicans have used Communists. Marvin Olasky JOINED the Communist Party after graduating from college but he was a campaign advisor to George Bush and his book was given to Republican freshman in Congress by Newt Gingrich. Republican leaders have quoted Mao as well.

This is nothing more than Rovian tactics and dirty politics courtesy of the Republican Party. Precisely why i joined the Democratic Party after spending 30+ yrs as an Independent.

Anonymous | 9:40 a.m. Nov. 4, 2009
Well said, Jennifer! Too bad there are not more Glenn Beck's in the world to bring corruption to light. I had never watched his show but after seeing how much he disturbs certain elements of our society to the point they seemingly want to crucify him (and his fans LOL) I decided to view his program. Although I don't agree with everything he says, I do appreciate that it is largely through his efforts that some corrupt organizations and people are exposed, forcing others to take at least a second look.

It is amusing that so many accuse Beck's viewers as not being able to think for themselves when it is obvious that they are equally biased in the other direction and not opening themselves up to a different way of thinking.

Go Beck!
Indiana | 9:40 a.m. Nov. 4, 2009
Yes, just what you would expect... I LOVE BECK! He is a truth teller and I for one am grateful for the truths he tells and the corruption he uncovers!
Go Away | 9:45 a.m. Nov. 4, 2009
I wonder if we quit talking about Glenn Beck, he will just go away.....................
He probably loves all this attention.
Oh Please | 9:46 a.m. Nov. 4, 2009
I'd heard of Van Jones for years before Beck destroyed him. He's one of the brightest and most innovative urban leaders in America. I challenge fair-minded conservatives (if any exist) to read the Jan. 12 profile of Van Jones in the New Yorker. You'll get quite a different picture than the character assassin Beck gives.
Jim | 9:55 a.m. Nov. 4, 2009
Theres a sucker born every minute and Beck is the leader of the band
Charles | 10:10 a.m. Nov. 4, 2009
The letter writer must have hit a nerve just like Beck does to the Dead Stream Media and progressive nut jobs....

@Hypocrisy and ETBass's comments are perfect examples of those who have been mind numbingly captivated by Obama and his minions.

I agree with Beck that Obama is an angry black man who doesn't have much of a liking for the white man. Go read Obama's comments, not someone's interpretations of those comments but his actual comments, and it's hard not to come to that conclusion. His wife is even angrier than Obama!

ETB: stay in the hills pal. Your straw man argument and incoherent statement are all we need to know about you.

For once in your life Bass, why don't you stand up and be counted. Put it out there my Mayberry hills friend --- what do you believe in? What do you stand for?

You complain about everyone and everything on these pages each day but never put what you stand for. Time to be counted --- if you dare!
To "Jeffrey | 12:19 a.m." | 10:28 a.m. Nov. 4, 2009
Jeffrey | 12:19 a.m.

YES!!! At THIS point exposing ACORN is more important than re-hasing the Haliburton issue.

Haliburton is OLD, no ANCIENT news at this point. What good would be done by Beck re-exposing that today???

And why are YOU and the Left STILL so hung up on the Haliburton issue today??? It's ancient news!

It's more important to address an obviously corrupt organization that is funded by our Government, spending our tax dollars, when they know they have a record of illegally influencing our election process (to benefit ONE PARTY over the other).

THAT is something that needs to stop. And something the Government could easily stop.

It's not as easy for the Government to control what some Haliburton employees did 5 years ago TODAY!

The ACORN thing is GOING ON TODAY! The Haliburton issue happened 5_YEARS_AGO and CAN'T be rectified TODAY (and it had NOTHING to do with our election process or illegally influencing who is elected to run our country).

I applaud Beck for focusing on a CURRENT problem, that affects our GOVERMENT (which is his job) instead of constantly dwelling on the PAST like you guys.
@ "dave | 7:00 a.m." | 10:36 a.m. Nov. 4, 2009
Yes, Yes...

Beck attracts the lowest common denominator... And Olbermann and Maddow attract the "Upper-Crust". We already know that, what ELSE is new?

You gonna tell us red-necks more about your big brain? Or your superior Tolerance, or your innate ability to pick better representatives just by looking for the "D" by their name or something?
ghost33 | 10:41 a.m. Nov. 4, 2009
I take that back, Charles is still waiting for the FEMA concentration camps...
Why so obsessed? | 10:46 a.m. Nov. 4, 2009
Why are so many on the left so obsessed with Haliburton?

Was that the only talking point you can remember from the last time you read anything? That's ancient news now! Read some new stuff. Something written SINCE the 2008 Obama campaign.

The more I read these comments, which are supposed to on the topic of whether what BECK exposed was TRUE... the more I read about Haliburton. What the heck does Haliburton have to do with this topic?

Are you saying Beck must give equal time to the Haliburton story to have credibility??? That's just obsurd. That would be like insisting Olbermann and Maddow give equal time to praising George Bush every time they praise something Obama has done. They both have different perspectives and different agendas people! When are you going to get it?

This is 2009. Forget your OLD talking points and lets try to discuss something besides Haliburton. Something that affects our politics TODAY!
Anonymous | 10:50 a.m. Nov. 4, 2009
Ah, another Beck bash-fest by the willfully ignorant. Avoiding Beck is avoiding a huge segment of the truth. It is that simple.

Beck is not a news show addressing all the high priority stories. He is an opinion show that tries does a great job of filling in the many gaps left by the liberal media. He won’t spend time covering stories, like Halliburton, that everyone is obviously hearing about elsewhere.

To all you obsessed Beck haters, try sleeping before you speak. You might then be able to say something supportable and intelligent. “Faux news, rodeo clown, nutcake, Chicken Little, doesn’t care about truth, delusional listeners, tools, dirty politics, fear-mongerer, extremist pundit, rape-condoner, lowest common denominator”, blah, blah, blah — all expressions of gleefully embraced ignorance. Give it a rest already. You’re all not convincing anybody of anything but your own ignorance.

Oh and to misinformed 9:27. Beck concentrated on Van Jones comments made last April and May. But you couldn't have known that, could you?
Re "Ernest T. Bass | 8:34 a.m." | 10:51 a.m. Nov. 4, 2009
A brilliant quote from "Ernest T. Bass | 8:34 a.m."...

"Beck condones rape in he views"

Bad grammar asside... How is your statement true? How did Beck condone rape?

Just wondering if you can backup your accusations with truth or logic.
Conservative-not-republican | 11:00 a.m. Nov. 4, 2009
@ Oh Please 9:46
If the accusations Beck made against Jones were not true, why did Jones slink off in the middle of the weekend, instead of standing up for himself? If what Beck said was incorrect, why doesn't Jones sue Beck for libel? Answer: Because what Beck said was true! What other explanation is there? I'd love to hear it.

Beck didn't destroy Jones - Jones did!
Charles | 11:08 a.m. Nov. 4, 2009
@ghost33: actually, I'm waiting for the Democrats (Feds/State/City) of Louisiana to take responsibility for their own disasters. You know, like the Republicans did next door and the Repubs in the Midwest who told the Feds to take a hike.

Ya, I know that's not what you were referencing but since you brought up FEMA, then why not bring up the ineptitude of the Democrats whining about Bush not coming to their rescue fast enough. Perfect example of how govt handouts perpetuate the victim mentality of a group of people for over 60 years....

Bush Derangement Syndrome is alive and well..
Charles | 11:43 a.m. Nov. 4, 2009
Glenn Beck is doing the investigative journalism that the newspapers and shows like 60 Minutes USED to do.

Democrats are whining and complaining because it is THEY who are now being investigated and they aren't used to the scrutiny.

For many of us real Americans, I don't care WHO Beck shines the light on. It's really good to know who are enemies to the country no matter which party.

Right now -- Obama and his cronies are the biggest enemy to America.

Has any of the "acceptable news outlets" actually asked Obama what he meant when he said he was going to "fundmentally change America" and why he thought America needs a fundamental change?

yea, didn't think so.... Those seem like a couple of seriously needed answered questions; don't you think or are all you Democrats okay with the Socialism/Communism of America? Your endorsement of Obama's policies speaks volumes....some are really scary with their full frontal acceptance and "not going far enough" dogma...

Anonymous | 12:12 p.m. Nov. 4, 2009
You can't argue with shared delusions. I bear Charles never fact checks Beck. Why fact check when you are being told what you wish to hear?
JUST WATCH | 12:18 p.m. Nov. 4, 2009
for all the Beck haters my guess is you never actually watch the guy and if you do you don't really listen. You are mad at Beck because he has peeled back the phony facade that has covered Obama up to this point and has allowed people to start seeing and judging the man for the actual far left radical that he is. The elections of yesterday prove one thing people - Obama has no coat tails anymore. Obama made personal visits to Virginia and New Jersey many times and invested over 10 million from the DNC and it made no difference in the outcome - people REJECTED the Obama message with astounding numbers. Turf that was Obama's just 10 months ago is now back in the GOP camp to stay. Glen Beck does his research and he makes sense to people and that is the LAST thing Obama wants. So LIBERALS - watch Glenn if you dare!!!
Beck slays a Capitalist | 12:20 p.m. Nov. 4, 2009
Van Jones in his own words:
“We are not promoting welfare. We are promoting work. … We are not expanding entitlements. We are expanding enterprise and investment. … We are not trying to redistribute existing wealth. We are trying to reinvent an existing sector, so that we can create NEW wealth — by unleashing innovation and entrepreneurship. This should be common ground.”

"Let’s tell our disaffected youth: “You can make more money if you put down that handgun and pick up a caulk gun.”

Thomas Friedman on Van Jones:
"Mr. Jones, who heads the Ella Baker Center for Human Rights in Oakland, which helps kids avoid jail and secure jobs, has an idea how to change that – a “green-collar” jobs program that focuses on underprivileged youth. I would not underestimate him. Mr. Jones, age 39 and a Yale Law School grad, exudes enough energy to light a few buildings on his own.....
Charles | 12:29 p.m. Nov. 4, 2009
@12:12pm: just another perfect example of some little minded "anonymous" individual going after the messenger instead of the message.

So typical of those who have already lost the argument. Keep up the great work!
Frank Castle | 12:36 p.m. Nov. 4, 2009
I look at the Beckster like Al Bundy... you know where they go to England and Al gets up on the box to speak his mind.

Only, not as funny and nowhere near as logical.
@Just Watch | 12:43 p.m. Nov. 4, 2009
I've watched Beck, mulitple times. Actually I find him humorous. Really, he's quite an act. And if people were tuning in to see a comedy act, he wouldn't bother me at all. What is disturbing is that people, such as yourself, take him seriously, believing he is providing truthful information or information of any real value. What is disturbing is the misinformation, the demonizing, and the fear mongering. It takes no intelligence to incite fear among ignorant people.
Other countries open | 12:44 p.m. Nov. 4, 2009
Hey liberals who want communism because 'we americans are too stupid to make our own choices.' I'm sure other countries like Russia and China would welcome you since you love communism. If you think a corrupt government should get more power, you should experience what government can do in China and Russia. Also, how is Al Gore doing?!?! He is a hypocrit just as bad as anyone else!!! This country is about FREEDOM, so go somewhere else if you don't like FREEDOM. Obama and his administration are corrupt just like Bush was. Where are the true leaders who will lead to less government and more individualism. The main purpose of government is to provide an educational system and protection (police, Firemen, military, etc...). Capitalism will prevail. Read the 'Invisible Hand' by Adam Smith. That is how the economy turns around, not because of government intervention. It is the cycle of economics. I have friends who love Obama, but they don't even know what he stands for or has done. All they know is he wants to 'CHANGE' things.
@Conservative not Republican | 1:08 p.m. Nov. 4, 2009
Van Jones resigned because he didn't want to be a distraction. Beck succeeded in making Jones a distraction.

The smear/demonizing tactics used against Jones can be used against anyone. They were employed against Joseph Smith by his enemies as well.

Wake up. Try PBS and NPR. You might learn something.
Conservative-not-Republican | 1:24 p.m. Nov. 4, 2009
To @Just Watch 12:43

Again, if Beck provided mis-information and unjustly demonized Van Jones, and that cost Van Jones his job, 1) Why doesn't Van Jones sue Beck for slander, and 2) Why did Van Jones resign in the middle of the night on a weekend?

@ Beck slays a capitalist

Quoting a few snippets of Van Jones' does not prove he's a capitalist. Obama has said he loves the free market system, yet he surrounds himself with people who would dismantle it brick-by-brick, and look up to Mao as a great political philosopher. Words mean little (especially in the political arena). What matters more is action.
The truth Beck uncovers | 1:33 p.m. Nov. 4, 2009
is the intellectual abilities of many Utahns.

That is a scary truth.
Charles | 1:50 p.m. Nov. 4, 2009
@12:43: If we were in a court of law, you'd be kicked out for your inability to provide any facts. You make many accusations but substantiate nothing. It's called slander of which you are guilty!
To Van Jones worshipers | 2:14 p.m. Nov. 4, 2009
To the numerous Van Jones worshipers posting here today...

Just like you criticise Beck for cherry-picking the Jones speaches he chooses to play on his show... YOU also can't just cherry-pick one or 2 quotes that make him look like a capitalist loving choir boy. You have to take it ALL together. His days as a self proclaimed "Comunists and roudy black-nationalis" to his yelling at the indian tribes, "NO MORE BROKEN TREATIES... GIVE THEM THE WEALTH, GIVE THEM THE WEALTH, GIVE THEM THE WEALTH"!!! (Just a few months ago BTW)

Of course I'm cherry-picking too. I'm sure there are speaches where he's supporting the police (instead of running an anti-police rally in Oakland). I just haven't seen them cause I watch too much Glenn Beck.

But you have to admit that he's obviously said stuff on BOTH sides. And MUCH of it doesn't belong anywhere NEAR the White House.

If Democrats ever try to place Van Jones in the White House again (as a councelor OR as President)... I predict the backlash will make them wish they hadn't.
Ed | 2:15 p.m. Nov. 4, 2009
Beck isn't entertaining. Everything he says is LAME and the fact that some people like him lessens my faith in America. As stupid as he is, anyone who says he doesn't have influence is deluded.

Anonymous | 2:48 p.m. Nov. 4, 2009
Beck is clearly off his rocker.
And stupid neocons love it!
Watched Beck | 3:05 p.m. Nov. 4, 2009
To you Beck supporters who continue to invite "liberals" to watch Beck - on a recent trip I watched Beck 4-straight nights to try to understand him and his appeal. My first reaction: "this guy is nuts; how embarassing; what is the appeal"? My second reaction: "okay, this guy is likeable; he has a nice smile; he talks to the camera well." My third reaction: "this guy is mean; behind the smile is a mean-spirited, hateful person who has little political context to calibrate his hostility." So, I tried it, like you suggest, and I still do not get it - what is his appeal?
