First off, I know the law, but denied the freedom to own a firearm because of a conviction on drugs?

Yeah, that makes sense.

Tomorrow's headline: Man denied purchase of Ibuprofen due to prior conviction of unlawful ownership of a gun.

If you really wanna cash in, go to the house of anyone with any felony charges. Bring a gun cuz he can't defend himself or his family legally. And if he does...HE goes to jail not you. Rob him for everything he's got. Thanks government.

Prior felony convictions should have no bearing on any of a persons constitutional rights. Stripping a man of his rights is criminal and unjust. Every citizen has the right to bear arms regardless of laws saying otherwise. The constitution says we have the right to bear arms to protect our property, our lives, and our country.

But government fearing citizens rights to fight an oppressive government has been systematically striping us of our constitutional rights to defend all that we believe in.

The judge must not believe in our constitution and an advocate to strip americans of their rights. This only proves the incompetence in judges and our legal system that allows and encourages perpetual harassment and discrimination and public ridicule.

Once a person is released from incarceration he is exonerated and all their rights are restored, at least they are supposed to be. It is unconstitutional for government or law enforcement to infringe on our rights with perpetual denial of any rights for no crimes being committed. Owning and using a gun is not a crime for any citizen in defending himself, his property, or his country, even our borders from invasion, by armed or unarmed foreign nationals.

The problem is double jeopardy.

A person makes a choice to commit a felony and therfore voluntarily gives up the right to posess a gun. If they want to protect themselves and their family with a firearm they should not commit felonies.

What other rights do you give up when you commit a felony Concerned? Freedom of speech, freedom to breathe, freedom of religion? (Oh that's a good one. We can just dictate what religion you will adhere to after you are released from prison for a felony.)
When you server prison time for committing a felony you have no rights while you are there. You may get out early and have some rights restricted while on probation, but that's a choice because you don't have to accept probation. But when you serve your time have paid your debt to society, society should not dictate which constitutional rights you can exercise after that.
Drug Dealers with Guns? | 8:52 a.m. Nov. 3, 2009
I can't believe you commenters are actually defending the right of convicted drug-dealers to own guns. Let's give them air-to-sea missles, too.

When you are convicted of a felony you lose certain rights besides the right to bear arms. You also can no longer vote. As a 2nd amendment lover and concealed weapons permit holder, I agree with the judge. If you read the story, the gun was found on him when his life was not in danger. If he had the gun in his house and he needed it for defense, I agree with him. But to be carrying it around with him, sorry. I do not want convicted drug dealers with guns. Choices have consequences.

OK, How about an open discussion about what power is being exercised by the federal government in this matter. Chapter and verse.
