Very Excited | 10:26 p.m. Nov. 2, 2009
Loving this team and this season. For what is a "rebuilding year", 7-1 is feeling pretty good, and the games have been exciting.

The way Wynn is speaking, it sounds like he will be playing this comming Saturday for sure. I think Cain will be suportive and hopefully will be ready to step in whenever and whereever he is asked to. He doesn't seem to have any sort of ego issues with the move.

Cain has been solid, and it's true that alot of the first half offensive woes weren't his fault, but I'm excited to see what Wynn is capable of as well. He definately looks young physically but heck, he is a true freshman after all.

It will be interesting to see what type of players these two grow into, and I think alot of that will be as a result of what type of work they put in off the field and during the offseason.

Go Utes!
Anyone but Louks! Ha ha! | 4:39 a.m. Nov. 3, 2009
Jordan Wynn is head and shoulders above the rest. But even DeVonte Christopher got more snaps that Corbin Louks.

Morale is better with Wynn, and that's not a knock against Cain. It just is.
It's about time... | 6:41 a.m. Nov. 3, 2009

that the media stops trying to create a QB controversy.

Whoever starts at the QB is okay as long as it's a win for Utah.

If only the Utes had Hall, then all of their QB problems would be solved.

Lucky for the Cougs, there is only one Hall and he will be directing the airial attack later this month and should beat the Utes quite handily.

As for my Broncos, we continue to climb in the BCS and will soon be in the top 5.

Good thing the Y and the U got out of the WAC or they would be playing second fiddle to us on our Blue turf.

GO BOISE STATE!!!!!

Gotta give Whiitingham credit for making the moves last week. In some ways pretty gutsy, and in others no choice, but all in all, right on Kyle.
What would everyone think... | 8:05 a.m. Nov. 3, 2009
If the Wyoming DB had caught the ball and run it back for a touchdown. Remember that play? The DB dropped the ball and it probably would have gone for a touchdown if he had caught it.

THere is lots of euphoria about Wynn. I'm not sure it is warranted. I have a lot more concerns about the play calling than I do Terrence Cain or whomever is quarterback. I think Cain would have been fine in the second half. The offensive line was horrible in the first half, but clearly was inspired in the second half.
re: Moose | 8:22 a.m. Nov. 3, 2009
This guy is the biggest fraud in history. Boise fan, yeah that's about the worst cover in the world. Claiming yesterday that TCU would destroy Utah. Sorry Zoob, but a real Boise fan would be praying for a Utah win over TCU so they can sneak into the BCS. If TCU wins out, Boise goes to San Diego again. And a real Boise fan would know that.

So sad that BYU fans have now had to mask themselves as other fanbases to try and make their remarks seem tougher.
Wynn is in | 8:26 a.m. Nov. 3, 2009
There is no battle anymore. Wynn will get the starters reps for the New Mexico game and build his confidence in that game. The next week will be tough, but that will be expected and shouldn't be too much of a shock. The game against SDSU could be tougher than some think, but it's in SLC so it will be a win for the Utes. The BYU game is a toss up with it being in Provo. But back to the article. His redshirt was pulled, so I would have to say the team is committed to Wynn.
LaVar the Utah Cat | 8:28 a.m. Nov. 3, 2009
Moose on the Loose has severe delusions. Moose, please take your meds and approach rational. Why the guardians of this comment section continue to allow him to foment anger and hate is beyond me. Freedom of speech does have reasonable limits, guardians! Especially on YOUR website. Every thing I have ever read from Moose is designed to irritate supporters of the Utah team.
No max hall | 8:29 a.m. Nov. 3, 2009
Its pathetic that the Utes still cant' decide on a qb. Neither one can carry maxs' athletic supporter. Riley is better than either one. And mckay jacobsen would beat either one in a race up Y mountain. Its' going to be a blowout in provo.
Perhaps | 8:40 a.m. Nov. 3, 2009
that inspiration was due to the intangibles of Wynn? Look I know what you see in Wynn is a true freshman, who almost threw a pick and who's throwing stats were pretty close but not quite as good as Cain's but there is some stuff that stats don't tell. For instance reading the defense, he was able to read the defense to open up bigger lanes for Wide who btw had a much bigger game in the second half than the first. Then you have to look at the speed he got throws off and the speed he got the ball snapped, he was getting plays off before the defense even set. Those are all things that showed a much more live and potent offense, but you don't see that in the stats do you.
Euphoria | 8:47 a.m. Nov. 3, 2009
Yes, there's a lot or euphoria about Wynn and to me it's clear that he should have been the choice all along. But I think Whittingham can be forgiven for not seeing the problems with Cain. Cain is a terrific athlete, he's fast, he's strong and he's solid. But Cain's "problems" negate these natural abilities. Cain hasn't the strength to go deep allowing defenses to cheat on him. Second, he's not good at reading defenses and making quick decisions. Third, he's fumble prone making him too big of a risk to run the option play. You put them all together and give opponents the chance to study and prepare for him and the net result is that he's actually gotten worse as the season has progressed.
KJ | 8:55 a.m. Nov. 3, 2009
Re: what would everyone think...

If you watch a replay of that pass you'll see that the receiver Wynn was throwing to would have been open, but he ran into a fellow receiver and because of it the DB was right there for the ball. It wasn't really a bad decision by Wynn, just some bad luck.

Ultimately, I'm not ready to say Wynn is THE guy, but Cain has been inconsistent all season, so I think Wynn deserves a chance. Something you can't blame the playcalling for is Cain's ineptitude when throwing the intermediate to deep routes. He just hasn't been accurate in those areas when given the opportunities and that's part of why Utah's offense has struggled so badly. They need a guy who can create a big play with his arm and I think Wynn presents the best opportunity to do that right now.
They'd think... | 8:56 a.m. Nov. 3, 2009
...Wyoming got away with a dirty play, that burned a Rookie QB.

The Reciever was being held up by the defender and he wasn't able to be there on the route. Wynn was relying on the timing of the route too much. Fortunately, it turned out to be a great learning experience for Wynn without the damage the play could have caused.

But your would of, could of, should of doesn't matter. There are a million of those types of things happening on both sides of the ball every game. The only thing that matters is who got the "W", and learning from those moments in the game.

With your same theory, Cain's status as starting QB wouldn't be in question had he not fumbled the ball so many times in his first 8 starts, or thrown it away instead of all too often taking a sack while trying to salvage broken down plays.

Cain's a stud but the offense has been stagnant for a couple of games now. It's not all his fault but, he hasn't done enough to warrant them not giving Wynn a shot.
RE: Moose on the Loose | 9:01 a.m. Nov. 3, 2009
I wouldn't trade either of the Utah QBs for Maxine "Deck Chair" Hall. And it's fairly obvious you're not a Boise State fan. For Boise to have any shot at overtaking TCU, Utah would have to beat the Frogs in Fort Worth. So like it or not, you have to cheer for the Utes next week! Because if TCU beats a top 15 BCS team, Boise can look forward to another undefeated regular season and being rewarded with a trip to the Poinsettia Bowl. But hey, at least San Diego is nice in December!
Oh we've decided on a QB | 9:02 a.m. Nov. 3, 2009
For the Utes-Y.B.U? game we are going with Max Hall.

Your right, no one throws a pass to our guys better than Max Hall! He was sensational last year!

Keep 'em coming Max!

Go UTES!
DRLL | 9:03 a.m. Nov. 3, 2009
It's pretty clear that both Cain and Wynn are at about the same level -- neither has done much to become head and shoulders better than the other. Given that point, Wynn seems like he may have slightly better leadership skills, he still has 3 years of eligibility after this year, neither QB is likely to beat TCU and either will be similarly effective/ineffective versus TDS (that game is much more about TDS's offense vs. Utah's defense anyway), so maybe you lean towards Wynn at this point.
Coach Kyle | 9:31 a.m. Nov. 3, 2009
What kind of coach sits his best QB during the first 7 games of the season, including a loss to Oregon? Utah's offense is in trouble, and the half time change was a desperate act that paid off only because an easy interception was dropped. What is clear is that Utah has two very medicore QB's, and the team's not-so-hidden weaknesses will be completely exposed when it runs into TCU's defense.
Hey losers. | 9:32 a.m. Nov. 3, 2009
At least we will get out of Boise for our bowl game. I hear you are coming here for yours. We'll make sure to have plenty of ice on the Blue turf for you.

Didn't you just score 3 points the last time we played? With your qb controversy that may be your season average from here on out!

And I am a BSU fan!!!

Barelty 7-1 and Overrated | 9:54 a.m. Nov. 3, 2009
Utah is 7-1, ranked 14 in the BCS, and the fans think Utah is a good team. Truth is Utah isn't very good because the only teams it has beat are pathetic teams. According to CBS Sports the teams Utah has beaten are ranked:

Airforce 61, OT win at home
Wyoming 76, Come from behind home win
Louisville 84, home
UNLV 91, biggest road win of season
CSU 96, comefrombehind win
USU 107, home
SJSU 109, 7-7 in 4th

If Utah wasn't 7-1 coach Whitt should've been fired after any loss to any of these teams. The only thing worse than this SOS is the pathetic way Utah is winning. Utes make fun of Florida St. but I think even FSU could handle this schedule. Utah's 3 toughest games its won have all been at home, and these "tough" games are against mediocre teams. TCU will demolish Utah by 4-5 touchdowns. Utah's defense is good, and if it werent for the defense Utah would be 5-3 or worse. Utah might have the worst offense in the conference.
Trouble | 10:39 a.m. Nov. 3, 2009
When Jake comes, the Utes are in a heap of trouble. All the best players in the nation are coming to BYU to play with Heaps and I expect 4 straight BCS bowl games starting next year.
Dutchman | 11:18 a.m. Nov. 3, 2009
Boise State in the Poinsettia Bowl?? Afraid not. The Poinsettia Bowl will be Oregon State vs. BYU.
Boise State will be relegated to the Humanitarian Bowl. Sorry, BSU fans but that is the best you get because TCU is going to the Sugar Bowl to play Alabama and Utah is headed to the Las Vegas Bowl to play Arizona. The Fiesta Bowl passes on Boise State to bring in another team to face Penn State.
BRING ON THE WYNN | 11:42 a.m. Nov. 3, 2009
Ute fans its time to welcom in a new era in Utes Football! Wynn looked confident, poised, and has a rifle or an arm, and the best part, he is only a freshmen! His playing on saturday night reminded me of a young Alex Smith! I know all you Zoobie fans are dieing inside, picking up the scraps that the Utes toss to you and watching as we continue to become better and better than you. Max was GOING to be The One, and of course you'll have some lame excuse about how your next QB is going to be THE ONE. Its just the same old thing with you Zoobies, tomorrow...tomorrow... Up on the hill, its all about one thing, WINNING and BCS BUSTING, TODAY! I am predicting right here, that with Wynn calling the shots, Utah Busts the BCS AGAIN! Wynn is the future and the future looks Bright! BRING ON THE WYNN

You should print up some shirts that say something like . . . .um . . . ."Quest for perfection" as you start your BCS run. Ba-ha-ha-ha! Glad the zoobs have something to look forward to next year because this years over.
re: Trouble  | 12:08 p.m. Nov. 3, 2009

re: Dutchman | 12:10 p.m. Nov. 3, 2009
You are a smart guy. I have to agree that you're analysis is a good prediction. I am learning to hate BSU almost as much as I hate BYU. Not really, but you know...
BYU lost | 12:21 p.m. Nov. 3, 2009
BYU is terrible, there defense is as bad as the Jazz. Utah's offense isn't that good but their defense is great. Utah will beat BYU because their defense will kill BYU and their offense will do what it needs to.
RE COACH KYLE (educated fan) | 12:26 p.m. Nov. 3, 2009
Wynn is a TRUE freshman... comprende? that means that everything has been new to him. Cain did a really good job helping us win 6 games why Wynn learned about the speed of D1 football.. But now with the amount of passes that cain is comfortable making. defenses have been able to cut the field in half and play press coverages even with guys with alot less speed. So way i see it is they looked ahead to the TCU game and saw that cain gives them NO chance of winning while Wynn has alot more upside and gives us a shot at a win in fort worth. rip on a coach who has won 22-23 games and 28 of last 30 games.. ha ha coach whit KNOWS whats up
Wildcat | 12:37 p.m. Nov. 3, 2009
Wynn should be the starting quarterback and then we can have an awesome wildcat like package with cain where instead of it being a run first package it could be closer to 50-50 pass and run plays. It would be perfect, but that is just my oppinion.
Re: Wildcat | 12:40 p.m. Nov. 3, 2009
Yes that would be superbly perfect and thrash any defense
trolls | 1:34 p.m. Nov. 3, 2009
C'mon Moose and other BSu fans, isn't Boise big enough to have a real newspaper? Play in a real conference and we'll take you a little more seriously.
re: No max hall | 1:49 p.m. Nov. 3, 2009
I hope that was a joke... What's Max Hall's record this year? That's what I thought. Pretty sad when a team with a QB controversy in a rebuilding year is doing better than one with such a "solid" QB. You BYU fans are hilarious, even when you're not trying to be.
BSU vs Utah | 2:07 p.m. Nov. 3, 2009
I saw a bowl projection that has Boise State playing Utah in the Poinsettia Bowl. This theory obviously has TCU winning out and getting the BCS game and Boise State missing out. I for one think that both TCU and Boise State should get BCS games if they both win out, but I sure would like to see the Boise vs. Utah Match-up. I am not loyal to either of the two, or to BYU. But it would be a good game. So would Boise State and BYU.
rebuilding year | 2:28 p.m. Nov. 3, 2009
utah is 7-1 and rebuilding a team that just routed alabama in the sugar bowl. the 1 loss coming from oregon that will most likely take the pac10. granted some games have been close, but utah has pulled out the win regardless. more of a testament to the great coaching, solid resolve and physical talent of utah's inexperienced team. tcu is scary, but with those 3 things i like our chances against them and any team. bsu is a good team but aside from oregon, plays a cupcake schedule. i would love to beat tcu but it will definitely come down to the wire. unlike byu's game.

the way utah is competing this year and with a solid o/d line recruits coming in this past year and next, utah will be a formidable team for a while.

go utes
Great coach? | 2:40 p.m. Nov. 3, 2009
Come on, Whittingham. Stop with sophmoric Jedi Mind tricks and name a starting QB already!

You tried this garbage earlier in the year, refusing to name a starter before the Utah State game. Now you're not going to name a starter before New Mexico? ARE YOU KIDDING ME!

If we're as good as we think we are, then Whit could name my grandma the starter and we should still win by two touchdowns. We're playing mind games before playing UTAH STATE and NEW MEXICO?????

If we truly are needing a juvenile edge against teams like that, then I am starting to become very afraid of what's going to happen at TCU.

Coguarf@n | 4:18 p.m. Nov. 3, 2009
There's no legitimate argument that Utah is better than BYU this year. Based on their performances against common opponents (CSU, USU, UNLV) BYU is the better team. Based on their records this year against ranked opponents (BYU 1-1, Utah 0-1) BYU is the better team. Utah has one fewer loss and a higher ranking only because they play TCU later in the season. We all know that Utah and BYU will go into the rivalry game with the same 9-2 record with one MWC loss and both will probably be ranked in the 20-25 range. After the game one team will be at 10-2 and in second place in the MWC while the other will be 9-3 and third. Most importantly, we will then all know who the better team is. Until then it's just baseless speculation.
goutes | 4:39 p.m. Nov. 3, 2009
Lets not get too exited. Wynn is the QB of the future and Cain is the QB of the present. If Wynn pushes Cain to be better, great. If not then give the ball to the kid. The Utes are 7-1 and will be bowling no matter what. If this is a rebuild, then I am thrilled for the future. Go Utes!
re: Coguarf@n | 4:42 p.m. Nov. 3, 2009
I find is hilarious that you can blow off 2 losses at home by a combined score of 92-35 because BYU beat CSU and UNLV by more than Utah did (BYU and Utah beat USU by identical 35-17 scores math major).

FSU is a very average team, and they made BYU look like a JV school as they ran through LES. TCU is a very good team, who made BYU look, well you get the picture.

Oregon is a very good team, who just beat USC by 30 while putting up 600+ yards of offense. Utah managed to hang with them by getting turnovers, and had many chances to win that game. Can't quite say the same for BYU in their losses.

Once again, BYU is a bully. Their offense can overwhelm bad teams. They also have a nack for putting up meaningless TD's in blowouts to inflate scores. While Utah's offensive struggles have made games close this year.

And it's hilarious that even the biggest Cougar homer can seriously look at a team with 2 home losses by 57 points and say they are better than another top 20 team.

Buck up UTES!

We have 2 pretty good QB's... Cain, with Utah's offense, came close to overcoming a darn good Oregon team (scored more on them than USC did!)

Wynn shows great promise also. Utah, 7-1, in the rebuilding year. Besides, in the rivalry game, we can always count on Hall completing extra passes to our boys in RED!

GO UTES!!

PS. Bullwinkle, the last time BSU played a MWC team, who won?
