Blair would bring shame on the EU. He failed to promote or further the European ideal whilst Premier of his country and to date the UK has neither adopted Schengen nor the Euro. He promised the British Electorate a referendum on Europe but again failed to deliver. Britain remains outside the European mainstream because of Mr Blair’s failure to commit to Europe. His part in the illegal war with Iraq make him wholly unsuitable for this post. An Iraq War Enquiry currently being held in Britain is facing calls for those found responsible to face War Crimes charges. He has callously used his warrior contacts to secure extremely lucrative consultancies in vulnerable countries and his record as Middle East Peace Envoy is laughable. The Stop Blair online petition has over 44,500 signatures and don't forget the millions across the world who demonstrated against him and Bush in 2003. Blair at the head of Europe would be a travesty.

"Blair was a sturdy supporter of the U.S. war in Iraq and continued so..."

And that is why he must never be in a position of power ever again. He knew Bush was lying and manipulating the intelligence and yet he did nothing to stop it. He deserves the oblivion of anonymity.

is becoming a transcendent politician. If he becomes president of the EU, all the world will be better off. The vicious rulers of the world will scurry and Europe will get its backbone.

I agree with 225 a.m. Blair is out of touch with the British desire to retain its sovereignty and in office he failed to respect the feelings and opinions of the electorate.

Even international socialist JM Keynes wrote: Europe is apart and England is not of her flesh and blood.

(Introductory of The Economic consequences of the Peace.)

Britain is at heart individualist. It soon de-nationalised its economy. It would never have gone into Europe by choice. It did not win convincingly the belated after-the-fact referendum on the subject of membership in what was then only a "Common Market".

Its people do not desire either the Euro or the European Constitution. British politicians put off such an illegal move, not because they are not brazen enough to try it but, because it would be too unpopular and might well remove them from office.

If Blair has ambitions in Europe perhaps he should first renounce his British citizenship. That would at least be honest.

Consider the source: John Hughes has been a cheerleader for neoconservative policies and personalities for years. Blair is just one of them, except that he was more of a U.S. lapdog than anything else during the Bush years.

I grew tired of Mr Tony Blair feeding me propagandaa about the war in Iraq.

As for the Grand Coalition or as some call it the Coalition of the "Billing" it was a failure. In regard to combat troops in Iraq we are alone!

In England he is known as a failed leader. He failed in his own country and he failed as a middle east negociator why should he be considered as European Union President?

The reality is he will not, thankfully, get the job. In Europe he is seen as a divisive figure. He is widely scorned for his mendacity in the run up to the Iraq invasion and for his vacous pronouncements on any subject that feeds him the oxygen of publicity. Many senior people are asking questions about the legality of the Iraq war and he will face a grilling in the forthcoming enquiry into the conflict. He is loathed in the UK. The last of his election victories was gained in the expectation that he would go, sadly his replacement has been no improvement. Finally in his current role in the Middle East he appears to have done nothing other than alienate Palestinian opinion by cosying up to the Israeli PM. He is very much yesterday's man. For the Brits, his appointment would confirm all their worst suspicions about the cabbalistic workings of the EU.
