What do girls think who go for the pouty guys? "He's like a child. I like children. He's cute." After a couple of years of marriage, it's, "Quit your pouting and be a man already. I should have listened to my mother."

As for young heartthrobs, I'm with Ann...Rule of thumb...you probably shouldn't have the hots for someone who didn't exist when you were in high school.

i agree with wr
you shouldn't have the hots for someone who didn't exist when you were in high school, but let's take it one step further:
you shouldn't have the hots for someone who didn't exist at all

it seems like sooooo many of my friends are obsessed with a certain fictional character they deem to be the perfect man

Let's face it, I don't have time to put up with pouting - not from myself, not from my kids, and certainly not from my man! A genuine smile is much more attractive, anyway.

I've never been impressed with actors or actresses. So you can be fake - yippee! So you make gross amounts of money for pretending - yahoo! And now I'm supposed to care about your political views? Nah.

So you have a ripped body. Can you clean my toilet? Can you carry my sleepy children up to bed and kiss them goodnight? Can you think I'm the most amazing wife in the world, or are you too busy looking in the mirror?

Pout all you want. I'm not listening.

Ann, I'm so glad you love the Classics. So do I.

If the "hunks" are young enough for me to be their mother, I don't want to look at them, I just want them to clean up their rooms. And then they would have something to pout about....

There are some hotties that are more mature these days. I'm thinking like Hugh Jackman, Tom Seleck, Harrison Ford and always Sean Connery.

sorry to have to be the one who tells you this Ann, but this means that you are old and out of touch with the "in" crowd.
lol ... welcome ...

Airbrushing has it's benefits for men as well as women. Like we *really* believe the ripped, toned bodies that some of these magazines show.

Frankly - I do like Hugh Jackman and a few others, but am very frustrated with the total self-indulgent lifestyles of the so-called "celebrities" now. It's beyond what a person should be like.

I like simplicity. Pure and simple.

I think this is so funny. I totally agree!!! First of all, I am highly addicted to celebrity gossip. Second, I don't know why guys are pouting. That is really dumb. Lol

They are pouting because they missed being born into the *real* in-crowd: the Baby Boomer generation. Everybody younger is jealous of us!!!!! lol

That whole pouting look isn't always intentional, for men or women. It is a common facial expression for female models because it captures a natural expression. Friends have claimed I pose in pictures like I'm trying to look like a male model and that I pout my lips intentionally. But it's just my natural expression when I'm relaxed and content. Men of the past weren't photographed with the expression because they didn't know the meaning of the word pout. What's considered masculine and attractive today is different than in the past. We don't have to try to act and look masculine in order to be thought of or admired as men. Although I didn't see the photos Ann referenced in her article, I do know that certain facial expressions are simply the way some men naturally look. What are we supposed to do? How do you want us to look? What fake facial expression should we try to maintain for you to approve of? See us as men, just men and nothing more, or less than that.

I have never met anyone who pouts naturally - maybe I just haven't met enough people yet. Love your columns, Ann. I don't need "girliemen" who think they look more handsome pouting. For that matter, I don't like women pouting, either.
