The Y didn't play so they moved into the Top 25. Maybe they should have

The real impressive move was the Utes playing and dropping, after an uninspired win. BYU deserves to be in the top 25 every week based on their body of work. Two losses this year against (sometime during the season) top 25 teams, one of which is a top 5. One win against a top 5 team. I'll take that...and after the Utah game it will be 2-2 against top 25 teams. I like that even more.
What is the real, serious question is this: How does Oklahoma State lose by 27, at home, to a top 5 program and only drop 4-5 spots depending on the poll...And the mighty Cougars drop 10 after a 31 point loss to a top 5 team? The answer is in the bias. The gross, obnoxious, disengenuous bias of the BCS conferences whose Coaches and Press corp beat up the non-bcs teams and hand out gifts to the BCS teams. When will the non-BCS coaches and press corp attack bias with bias? USC should have dropped from the top 20.

Will you look at that. Florida State managed to squeak one out at home against
football powerhouse NC State by a score of 45-42.

And, we wondeers if the $ associated with a higher ranking in the BCS
doesn't play a part in the review booth. Case in point---Indiana at Iowa.
Indiana still leading in 4th quarter by 10 and gets apparent touchdown. The
referee is 4 feet away from the play. TV replay after replay shows the receiver
dragging his foot well in bounds. The booth decides to review, and after 5
minutes or so says no touchdown. Indiana then misses the fieldgoal and in two
plays, Iowa scores and then scores 3 more times in the 4th quarter. I really
think that a team that is not that good had their wheels jerked right out from
under them and could not handle it. Indiana lost, Iowa didn't win.

Why should it surprise anybody that BYU moved back into the top 25 despite the
bye week? They were sitting at #26 after last weekend, and a team or two lost
in front of them. It makes perfect sense. Anybody acting like that's a
travesty is clearly just a hater.

Do I think BYU deserved to stay in the top 25 after that loss to TCU. No. Do I think that Oklahoma State should have fallen a lot further after getting blown out at home. Absolutely.

Comes to good teams that have national respect. For fans of other teams that
complain about that, the respect is earned. It's called having winning
seasons for 30+ years, an national championship, constant national rankings,
occasional big wins, great players, etc.
And anyway, BYU was 26 or 27 last week if you looked that those getting votes but not in the top 25. With a few losses by teams 18-25 this week, it's only natural they'd move up. BYU won't lose another game this season, ending 11-2 and ranked near the top 10. That'll make four seasons in a row of at least 10 wins. That's the mark of a consistently good team.
By the way, the Utes are getting there. They've had two great seasons in the last five and one great win. Now, if they can get an occasional win here and there against a top 10 team, consistently find themselves ranked, and regularly win the MWC for the next 10-15 years, they'll get there. It might even happen sooner than that.

That was 29 consecutive weeks the cougs were ranked, until the TCU loss.
That's the second longest streak in school history. Now we start over

Funny, I seem to remember a little earlier THIS year that BYU DROPPED two spots
after WINNING. The system was broken then right? But now it's JUUUST fine
(when it works in your favor).
As a die hard Utah fan I agree that they didn't deserve to jump too much. The only reason we remain in the teens is that we keep winning albeit very ugly. When we lose we will drop like BYU did. We haven't proven that we are worth the ranking yet....all we have is a one touchdown LOSS to a top ten team working for us...we will lose to TCU, possibly even SDSU, and the RIvalry game is a coin flip... Lets hope Wynn can get this offense clicking so we can prove we belong. Our Defense is THAT good. THey will keep every remaining game close! Go UTES!

Texas is playing the best defense in the nation and is led by the best player in the nation. Last year people complained about no defense in the Big 12, now they are crying if they have to play UT.

Still say the problem is ND. The BC$ system is all about $$ and ND has no place
in it. Their sugardaddy deal of automatic BC$ game if they only have 2 losses
is ridiculous. Look at their bowl record the last 10 games . . 0-10 with many
of those being of the blow-out variety. While I personally think TCU is better
than Boise State, Boise is clearly the better team than Oregon. Look at it on
paper, look at the scoreboard Duck fans . . face it you MAY win the PAC 10, but
what is that knowing the best team in the WAC absolutely whipped the
PAC-10's best! And it appears as if the Mnt. West's best (TCU) would
pretty much rip the PAC-10 leaders as well.

What national respect are you speaking of. Oh thats right, ancient. Since the
BCS began, unfortunately that is all that counts. Someday perhaps we won't
have to listen to cougar fans continue to live in the distant past. Since the
MWC was organized cougar teams have been good, but you crave what Utah has
achieved. Someday perhaps your team will get to play in a BCS game and then
cougar nation will get to rise and shout "See Utah, we can do it to".
Can Mendenhall take you there, who knows. There have been a whole bunch of
cougars calling for his head and a whole bunch who sing his praises. Cougar
nation sounds just a little schizo to me. Its time to focus on the present.
Will Utah beat TCU or BYU or anybody else on the schedule? Don't know and
before you say it, nobody else knows either. This much appears to be evident,
most Ute fans are more realistic and feel good about the Ute program. Cougar
fans appear to be trying to sort out frustrated expectations and occasional
disappointments. Remember, its only a game!

Nice try regarding BSU. BSU did beat Oregon but I would be quiet about it. The
Oregon team they beat is not the same one that has been playing the last few
weeks. BSU is good but I don't know if I would even hope for a BCS berth

The reason OK St didn't drop as far as BYU is because that wasn't the

Much is made of BCS bias in favor of the SEC, PAC 10, etc. Regardless, there
seems to be a bias in favor of teams like BYU in the 15 to 25 ranking range.
There is little doubt that a lower-tier SEC team this year such as Arkansas
would handily defeat BYU; yet, Arkansas is no where to be found in the polls and
BYU by virtue of playing mostly weak teams can limp to a 6-2 record and squeak
into the top 25.

YBU doesn't deserve to be in the top 25. TCU CREAMED them. Yeah, Utah has
has some sloppy wins, but a win is a win. They will beat both TCU and YBU....

Any way you look at it. Oregon is the highest one loss team in the nation, and
that loss is to BSU. You can speculate all you want that Oregon would beat BSU
today, I can speculate too. OK would crush BYU if they played today. Works both
ways. Last week it was oregon will be crushed by USC.
Who cares if BSU plays Cincinatti or Iowa and beats them. It might be a weak win, but a win in the BCS against a BCS team gets doors broken down. All anybody wants is the opportunity to play. If you BYU fans would quit complaining about BSU and work towards breaking down the walls of the BCS, you might just feel better about your team.

BSu is WAY overrated. They will lose in their bowl game and won't play for
the National Championship. The WAC is weak and that is a fact. Hmmm...what is

Behind their skilled young quarterback, Utah has a great chance to end season
with one loss going into the post-season. It should be in the BCS, but because
of the biased and hypocrosy in the system, it will most likely be in Vegas. BYU

they drop to about 22 in the rankings. After their lose to BYU, they're

concerned. BYU got back in because they needed to round out the top 25 with
someone. BYU beat a mediocre OU. On the other hand, Utah has not beaten

It really doesn't matter if anyone thinks Oregon would beat BSU right now,
they had their chance and got stomped; end of discussion. All of you need to
stop trashing each other and put your energy into trashing the BCS. If TCU and
BSU both win out they both deserve to go to a BCS game. The Oregon win over USC
might hurt Boise the most. USC will go to a BCS game with 2 losses over either
unbeaten Boise or TCU. 2 teams from the SEC will also go. Need some shakeup in
the Big 10 or else one of them will be left out. 2 out of the 3 top Big 10
teams need to lose then both TCU and BSU should get in. If both go undefeated
they both deserve to go. Rivals.Com currently predicts both will go. The big
travesty is Notre Dame gets $1.3 million from the BCS every year if they
don't play in a BCS game and $4.5 million if they do. Utah made a little
over $1 million last years Sugar Bowl after profit sharing and expenses. Talk

Best Defense in the nation - actually TCU has the best defensive rating and Penn
State is the Defense with the most scoring. So no on both counts to Texas.

that once upon a time BYU was a team of national recognition but, a national
power? Since McBride coached the Utes, the results between the Utes and Cougars
have been nearly identical with two exceptions, the 2004 and 2008 seasons. And
everybody knows how that went, right! If BYU is on the national stage this year
it is because of two out of three opportunities that BYU wasted on the national
stage. The paranoia you exhibit is bubbling over. As 4:52 said in his post,
Cougar Nation needs to live in the present, quit dwelling on the past or
dreaming about the future, it will only frustrate you and give you a headache.
And based on your over the top comments quite possibly raise your blood pressure
almost as high as watching BYU play a quality team. Regarding BYU being a team

As you can see, Utah has become accustomed to playing and WINNING close games. They did this last year as well. Utah went to the BCS because of defense not because of stellar offense. TCU will go to the BCS this year because of DEFENSE, not because they are stellar offensively. Maybe this should give you an idea or a blueprint of how to possibly get there. May want to get Bronco in on coaching up big games as well.

In the latest BCS poll, 13 teams are ranked ahead of Utah. The Utes have played
7 of those teams in the last 10 years and hold a record of 8-4 against them.
Wins - TCU (3), Oregon, USC, Pittsburgh, Georgia Tech, Alabama.
Losses - Oregon (2), Boise State, TCU.
Not sure what BYU has done in the last ten years against the nations best. Anyone have that data to post?

Utah is a scrappy team. No question about that. But they have beaten NOBODY
this year. I mean, congrats on doing your job. Also, BYU has beaten NOBODY

Oklahoma lost to the #2 ranked team in the nation by 3 points without Bradford
for majority of the game. Their other losses are by a point a piece. They may
not quite be elite but they certainly do not stink.

Utah will not lose to SDSU, but they will definitely lose to TCU so both BYU and
Utah will likely be 9-2 going into the rivalry game. I think Utah would
probably be happy, but not satisfied with a 9-3 season since this was a
rebuilding year, and 10-2 would exceed most people's expectations. For
BYU, 9-3 and third in the MWC would represent a pretty big failure since we had
a Sr. quarterback and a lot of momentum after the OU win, but 2nd and 10-2 with
wins over OU and Utah would be a decent year, especially if BYU pulls out a bowl
win.

If you want to play that game:
BYU is 2-0 versus Oklahoma AND Texas!
And Utah has NEVER beaten a team as highly ranked as #1-ranked Miami (finished #3).
Thanks to the Crowton years, Utah has the edge this decade, but over the last 35 years, Utah doesn't even come close to matching BYU's overall record, conference championships, and Top 25 finishes. BYU still has more Top 25 finishes this decade than Utah.
It's funny how the very criteria Utah fans like to use to define big wins (being ranked and having a solid winning record) is so easily dismissed by them when talking about the Cougars. Utah fans included their "big win" against a Top 25 BYU team last season as part of their argument for deserving a shot at the national championship, and then in the next breath, those same Utah fans will say that BYU had a terrible team last season.
If you want to play that game:

Thanks to the Crowton years, Utah has the edge this decade, but over the last 35 years, Utah doesn't even come close to matching BYU's overall record, conference championships, and Top 25 finishes. BYU still has more Top 25 finishes this decade than Utah.
It's funny how the very criteria Utah fans like to use to define big wins (being ranked and having a solid winning record) is so easily dismissed by them when talking about the Cougars. Utah fans included their "big win" against a Top 25 BYU team last season as part of their argument for deserving a shot at the national championship, and then in the next breath, those same Utah fans will say that BYU had a terrible team last season.
