Who decides the times on these games? I would think the UHSAA would want to make these games accessable to as many fans as possible. From watching highlights of last Friday's games it looked like the stands were half full. I'm sure there is a good explaination if someone would explain it too me I'd really appreciate it.

The coaches from the two schools decide on the time, generally. Because of the temperature usually the games are played earlier. If the two school can't agree on a time, the default is Saturday @ 1pm.

Tell me how number 1 MC has to go TO Highland and play. Don't you play hard all year to secure home field the first two games! And we already won the head to head matchup with highland so why did they flip a coin to decide this is rediculous and someone needs to take a look at it!!

Well no one has figured us out so far. We played Grand and South Summit and they had no answer. South Sevier hasnt played us this year so they dont know. San Juan will continue to play their game and do their talking on the field.

It was a great weekend of football. I guessed everything almost perfectly. I expected Millard to put up a little better of a showing. Kanab played San Juan tough. Grand executed and won. The Rams who had the easiest match up of the week moved on easily. Now we get San Juan. We will get San Juan this week. Mark my words. South Summit will beat Grand. Then the championship will be the battle of the South's. Sevier or Summit? take your pick.

Dallas Lloyd is a great QB but he will see pressure from the Davis defensive ends like he has never seen before. It will be a great battle between 2 solid teams.

Actually if you read the UHSAA rule book it states that the default time for all games is on Saturday at 1 pm unless the two schools can decide on a time on Friday. If they can't agree then it stays on Saturday at 1 pm. Also...It is the principals along with the coaches that agree on the time not just the coaches.

I hope Lloyd is healthy, that Davis PG game will be a good one and I think Region 1 is better than anyone gave them credit for. Syracuse v Bingham should be good, but I see Bingham pulling away in the 4th. Alta v Cottonwood, I think this game will go down to the wire unless Alta elevates their game from the Fremont game. Alta should win it though, their kicking game is too good. LP and Hunter will depend on the first couple of series. If Hunter can score early and control the ball I think they have the size to win the line of scrimmage battle. On the other hand, the likely scenario is LP gets a couple of scores ahead and Hunter can't make the come-back.

Dallas is a great player, but Donny can hold his own. if Davis has a good defense, they will rule over PG. PG's offensive line is lame

I think you are correct. Lone Peak has to stop Hunters running game the first couple of series. Hunters corners cannot stay with any of Lone Peaks recievers including Jacob Hannemann(#1) or Ryan Savage (#23)..they are to fast for them. Lone Peak has to stop them the first couple series and their offense will score quick. Then Hunter has to play catch up ball with NO passing game. Sorry Hunter....

I think that Davis has the best chance of an upset if they can continue to move the ball on the ground.

If Springville continues to pound the ball with Key and Case then add some passing here and there they should win no problem. As for Spanish Fork beating TV.....it's not going to happen and it won't be close. MC wins at Highland again but not by 3 TD's, maybe just 14 points. They are to well coached.

Football is a game that is often analyzed on paper before the game actually happens. Here's my analysis on the 5A games this week.

Using the formula: (PF(team1)+PA(team2))/2
PF=points for PA=points against

Given these statistics, we can analyze what the scores could very well end up being. Keep in mind this doesn't factor in strength of schedule, taking out starters in the 4th or any other variable. Just some food for thought.

I'm not sure the status of Lloyd, he will definitely be a big factor, but I think this game comes down to how well Tanner Hinds plays and Davis' defense. There is no doubt PG has more talent, but that doesn't always constitute a win.

Rankings of the following 5A regions:

1. Region 4. The fact that Brighton didn't get in to the playoffs and West did is beyond me.
2. Region 1. Call me biased, but I think region 1 is hard nosed football and is relatively balanced.
3. Region 3. Bingham is dominant, but there are some good teams in Riverton and WJ.
4. Region 4. Region 4 has a lot of 4A teams from last year, Skyline and Cottonwood are solid teams but overall it's weak in my opinion.

Home teams definitely have the advantage. My picks for this week:

Davis over PG (I gotta stick with my team, I think PG will be surprised)

LP over Hunter (Will be a close and solid game)

Bingham over Syracuse (Bingham is my pick to take state)

Alta over Cottonwood (Alta's offense is too strong)

Nothing better than HS football playoffs, may all teams play like it's the last game they will ever play.

I can't wait til the finals when PG plays either Alta or Bingham so all the PG haters will stop coming on here and compensating for their losses by bagging on PG. PG needs to play better on Friday but they will. The offense will be ready and Coach Sampson will have the line blowing Davis' undersized D-line off the ball. Davis will play hard and Hinds will have his yards but the rest of the team will be exploited.

The number one concern for the UHSAA in determining game times is to allow the visiting team a chance to get home at a decent hour. They won't force schools to take the entire Friday off if there is a great distance to travel. That is why Saturday at 1 pm is chosen.

The head coach does give input to the principal. The two principals talk together and jointly determine the time with which both can agree. Sure, the home team would like a 7 p.m. time, but the visiting team gets some consideration.

Well i was wrong on all but one game last week. What a great weekend of football. Here are my picks for this weekend.

San Juan will beat South Sevier because their defense is to good for South Seviers offense. Their offense is WAY to good for South Seviers defense. Sorry boys wish i could say that the west would win this one (especially because they have two Cowboys on their coaching staff) SJ's defense will shut Wilson and Bischoff down. SJ by 14.

South Summit will beat Grand. SS is very physical and and handled a very physical Millard team with ease. SS by 14.

So their you go boys and girls. Its gonna be SJ and SS in the championship and SJ will pull it out.

Also i am a bit of a 1A watcher. I played in 1A 3 out of 4 years in high school. Congrats to Duchesne and Altamont on your wins last week.

Im gonna pick Monticello in their game and im hopeing Altamont can beat Rich. Rich runs their mouths about how good they are and how they could beat anyone in 2A and about how Kanab is scared of them. Go Altamont shut Rich county up and Show them that they are not as good as they think. As for you Rich boys 5-0 in four years. SHUT YOUR MOUTHS! GO LONGHORNS!!!!!!!

We love to see everyone underestimate our team. We are solid all the way around and especially our Defensive ends and running game. I think PG will be very surprised with what they get. It will for sure be a great game. It will be great to see 2 great teams battle it out. The Davis O will grind it out but the key will be the Davis D stopping the PG offense. I can't wait for this showdown.

All Lone Peak has to do is stop Hunter's Run. I heard the same thing from CWood, Skyline, and Weber. They all knew all they had to do is stop the run and none of them did. Easier said then done. I don't think LP will be able to score, Hunters corners are too fast, to much team speed on defense and their d-line is too big to move. And the game is in West Valley. Lone Peak might be lucky just to get out of the stadium in one piece.

How come MC and Highland fans think that the winner of their game will take home the championship? Until someone actually beats Timpview in a 4A game, then they are the favorites! MC/TV would be a good game while Highland would get stomped.

I love all these MC fans that think they are gonna roll on Friday! The thing is as of now it is only a touchdown spread and Highland's secondary has vastly improved since breaking in BRAND NEW STARTERS against Mtn. Crest (IN THE FIRST WEEK OF THE SEASON!) There is no way someone can predict a blowout in this obvious clashing of titans. although I also agree that a championship goes through Timpview who have been undefeated in 4A for three years.
