5A high school football: Miners beat 'Diggers in shootout

Great season Diggers!
I suppose that I should have known the two highest-scoring offenses in the state would put on quite a show. To whoever made that prediction, I admit to being completely wrong.
I believe kudos are in order for both the Miners and the Beetdiggers. After seeing Hart and his cadre of receivers I'm glad Bingham won't have to play them again.
Those onside kicks almost turned the game completely around. Even though I wasn't happy to see Jordan succeed with them, I consider the play calling and execution incredible. Bingham managed to figure out how to stop that threat but not until Jordan made a game of it.
After the game I called a friend to tell her the score and she asked if the basketball season started early.
Good luck Bingham!! I hope you go all the way!!

The hawk flock is coming Bingham! Caw Caw Caw
I would never have predicted Jordan getting 42 points on Bingham but I assumed that Bingham's grind it out offense could run some clock with five and six minute drives. What I didn't count on was the gap between Bingham's O and Jordan's D being so big that Bingham would score too fast. I figured 10 possessions each (tops) and a 42-28 score. It turns out that Bingham's O was way more efficient and the extra possessions for Jordan accounted for the difference in their score. The game was certainly more interesting than a defensive battle with Brighton would have been.
Anyway, congratulations to Jordan for an outstanding game effort (they did show heart) and a fine season.
Go Miners!
You got to get passed Cottonwood first - you can bet they're coming with ears laid back and guns blazing. The taunting you gave them in the first game this year "WELCOME TO 5A" from the sidelines and Alta's players has given them plently of fuel. Cottonwood has improved over the season, Alta not so much and I think Alta's running game actually has gone backwards since the Cottonwood game. Bingham may not be the state champs this year - many teams are really looking good. But I know Alta won't 3peat. I'm picking Cottonwood over Alta 24-21
Congratulations and good luck to Bingham, a great program that plays with class.
Nor can Bingham take Syracuse for granted.
Assuming Bingham and Alta do meet at RES, I don't foresee either team "CRUSHING" the other. It would be the classic battle both sides have grown accustomed to seeing.
Bingham 38 (10-1, 5-0, unbeaten by Utah teams)
Alta 34 (9-2, 5-1)
No doubts at all.
Don't overlook Cottonwood.
Bingham is preparing to play Syracuse this week, not Alta.
Miners#1
Good luck the rest of the way Bingham, you guys are tough!
I like to think I have a way with words but I can't improve on that.
Good luck to your and your boys but please ease up on Bingham boasting. They are a great group of boys that have fought hard for everything they have earned too.
Alta will face a totally different CW team and I agree with the comments that Alta gave CW plent of fuel to get ready with. Hopefully Alta comes out and can match that intensity and play smart football because this will be a much closer game than the last one was.
As for Bingham, don't beleive half of these comments, Alta knows that it's going to be a battle just to get past CW, and that to beat you guys will take Alta's best game of the season. Good luck with Syracuse, good team who will give you a battle.
Hopefully Bingham and Jordan will play in football next season, it should be another great game, especially if Jordan's defense improves. The Beetdigger offense is good enough already, even though their losing some of their best players to graduation. I'm sure others will step up for their team.
Please keep it positive!!!
Win or lose the players on both teams are certainly worthy of mention in the newspaper or on the web site. I am not acquainted with any player or coach in either program. Perhaps i overlooked the article.

I wholeheartedly agree with both of you.
Bingham Player, only those who have never put on the pads will talk about how easy it is to win a football game, especially in the playoffs.
Focus on the job at hand, preparing for Syracuse. Give your best in every play because we need every player involved in every play. Even if that means just paying attention from the sideline and cheering for your team mates.
John, I feel that you're right in stating that we Bingham fans are very lucky. I remember a time when the Bingham football team won just 2 games in a 9-game season and to call attendance low would be an overstatement. The next few years were rough, too. The team barely made the playoffs and was eliminated quickly. Bingham fans now, for the most part, don't remember those days. Many don't know how lucky they are to have a team that not only has good people invovled (as I'm sure all teams in every sport do), but quality athletes as well.
I think you just missed it. It is titled: "5A high school football: Pleasant Grove capitalizes on opportunities" and was posted online on Oct. 30, 2009 at 9:52 p.m. (And to date it has 28 comments).
