4th quarter and Wynn throws a touchdown pass.

I said it early in the season that Wynn should be the starting quarterback over Cain.........but Kyle didn't listen until now!!!!!!!!!

Utah leads 16 to 10 with 7 minutes to go.

I have other suggestions if only Kyle would listen!

GO BOISE STATE!!!!!
An ugly win is still prettier... | 8:57 p.m. Oct. 31, 2009

than an ugly loss.

I will take an ugly win --but Utah coaches should work on the team offense in a hurry. TCU is only 2 weeks away.

SoCalUtahFan
Oregon | 9:01 p.m. Oct. 31, 2009

is leading USC by 3 TDs, 41-20

Remember...Oregon defeated Utah by 1 TD (Utah could have tied if not for a stupid turnover at the end of the game)

Utes win! | 9:06 p.m. Oct. 31, 2009
This win was by luck this time, they actually won the game by a much larger margin. They still have improvements across the board and this is Wynn's first win QBing the Utes. So much for a red-shirt year. It appears the Utes may have a new starting QB, Wynn. Lets see what happens next week when the Lobos go to SLC. Hopefully they'll win that game and get prepared for a tough TCU team. All I can say for now is, go UTES!
Doubting Fan | 9:28 p.m. Oct. 31, 2009
After two ugly weeks in a row, I'm wondering if it will be a 20 or 30 point loss at TCU?

We are a decent team, but will be crushed in Fort Worth.
Re: Doubting Fan | 9:39 p.m. Oct. 31, 2009

there is no room for fans like you.

I believe Utah will get a win over Lobos and set up for a tough show down with TCU.

With Wynn at the QB, it will be an ugly win over TCU --but I will gladly take it.

Go UTES!!!
SEC Saint | 9:55 p.m. Oct. 31, 2009
Go Utes. A win is a win.
Not a Coach | 9:57 p.m. Oct. 31, 2009
... but I hope Whitt knows what he's doing by burning Wynn's redshirt. A nice explaination might sooth my concern about this decision. Nevertheless, it was excited to see Wynn celebrate his first touchdown.
CBT | 9:59 p.m. Oct. 31, 2009
Utah has a better shot of beating TCU than BYU did simply because Utah plays great defense and can keep themselves in games. BYU can not. Of course, if Utah keeps playing O the say way, they might be lucky to score 6 on TCU, which will not be near enough. TCU had Utah beat last year in SLC, and the Frogs are better this year. The Utes are worse. And that is the fact. Still have to play the game, but I expect TCU to be favored by 10.
Anonymous | 10:01 p.m. Oct. 31, 2009
Sorry Utes - Oregon was a different team when you played them. As for TCU - after what they have accomplished this year (the best MWC team ever - in my opinion), only a delusional Ute fan would think they have a chance to win that game. But then some things never change. . .

Don't Blame Cain | 10:03 p.m. Oct. 31, 2009
The Utah O-Line let cowboy linemen come almost straight through on those two sacks. He didn't have much time to do anything but go down. At least he held onto the ball.

Wynn looked good though. It will be interesting to see who starts at QB next week.

And I'm glad Roderick was calling the plays after the half. I think Kyle should have named him OC last year instead of the "Co-offensive coordinators" before Arron left for Washington. But Kyle knows alot more than me.

Glad we won it, and I am a huge Ute fan, but I don't think we really look like a top 15 team. Maybe more like #25, but it does seem like not too many teams are playing extremely well except for TCU, Texas, BSU, Cincinatti, and now Oregon.
page | 10:06 p.m. Oct. 31, 2009
was at the last two games Utah has a top ten defense and a top 60 offense. not good. looks like they should have recruited the Wyo, QB to me. o well a win is a win. i guess.and to coach Wit y not go for 2 instead of 1 leading by 5 makes no since to me.
realistic Ute fan | 10:11 p.m. Oct. 31, 2009
Doubting fan is realistic. I love the Utes, but this team is not playing like a top 20 team. To be this far into the season and our offense is a mess. We have really good receivers and Eddie Wide has been fantastic. Unfortunately we miss Brian Johnson and a consistent scheme. Utes have done great in a rebuilding year. Should at least beat UNM and SDSU. TCU ain't going to happen and you never know in the rivalry game. Koa Misi played great. Any win is a good win, but gratefully the last 2 teams have been awful.
Re:Ute Fans | 10:14 p.m. Oct. 31, 2009
Dream on. Utes struggled to win against all of the mountain west teams who are rated lower in the conference. Utes will not win TCU. There is no BCS
bowl game for you this year. TCU is going to be the champs and take your place. HAHAHAHA
to Anonymous @ 10:01 | 10:17 p.m. Oct. 31, 2009
Seriously, calling this years TCU team "the best MWC team ever?"

Um, after they go undefeated and destroy a legendary top 5 team in a BCS bowl, then I will hear your argument. We still have a couple months left. TCU still has something to prove. '04 and '08 Utes at 13-0 and BCS victory. Those are the kings of the (10-year-old) MWC so far.
Moose on the Loose Mama | 10:23 p.m. Oct. 31, 2009
This game was ugly.....ugly.....ugly!!!

The luck will soon go away and TCU and BYU will cause a lot of PAIN!!!

I saw a lot of empty (sold out) seats tonight. The no shows must have been out Trick or Treating.

Predict TCU by 30 or more!
Re: Anonymous | 10:01 p.m.  | 10:25 p.m. Oct. 31, 2009
Gee, thanks for your opinion. You talk like your opinion is fact. Are you my father-in-law?

It's time to turn off the computer.
UU's | 10:26 p.m. Oct. 31, 2009
Sqeaking out wins over soso teams is not very encouraging....USU is one theor wat up , while Utah is looking to get thumped by TCU.....I'll give you 34 pts and take TCU!!
Yoke | 10:27 p.m. Oct. 31, 2009
Hey Anonymous,

TCU best MWC ever? Whatever. They haven't even been to a BCS bowl yet. You are way off. The '04 Ute team under Urban is the best MWC team ever. And everyone knows it. That isn't even debatable.

And why do so many loser Boise fans post in so many local Utah forums. Don't they even have technology in Boise? Go play someone with a winning record for once.
Re: Anonymous | 10:31 p.m. Oct. 31, 2009
You are right Anonymous, some things never change....BYU was overhyped again. BYU thought they would beat TCU and got blown away again. like BYU thinking they stood a chance against TCU this year. TCU is the best MWC team ever? Well, lets play the rest of the games and give a little credit to 2 Utah teams that went undefeated....something TCU has yet to do. I guess I am delusional because I seem to recall Utah having a winning record against TCU and winners of the last 3 against them.
Dont call Utah fans delusional about what games they think they have a chance at winning.
Scooter | 10:33 p.m. Oct. 31, 2009
Doubting fan is absolutely relistic. Utah will lose by at least 24 points to TCU. I'm hoping that TCU can be the BCS buster and possibly play for the national championship, would be great for the MWC.
Wynn | 10:34 p.m. Oct. 31, 2009
is the difference maker. He looked confident and not lost in the offense like Caine has become. The offense was in rythem with Wynn in there and started moving the ball better. Another week under his belt next week against New Mexico and we will see how good he can be. If the offense can move the ball and let the defense rest, Utah does have a chance against the Horned Frogs. Come on blue birds, start telling me I am delusional like you did last year. I want to see you eat your words again. Go Utes!
TCU by 30.....almost | 10:35 p.m. Oct. 31, 2009
Utah's dream season will come crashing down in two weeks. This one will be over by half time...

TCU 35
Utah 6
I want Cain! | 10:35 p.m. Oct. 31, 2009
I can't believe we burned the redshirt for this game.

Wynn is NO better than Cain at this stage. In fact, it's only because of the Utah defense that Utah was able to have the ball more in the second-half and the O-line finally started playing well.

But Wynn threw a horrible pass that should have been returned for a TD, which would have pretty much ended the game. Fortunately for Utah, the DB dropped it.

But his passes aren't crisp. He telegraphed, and he is not an option threat. He hands off to Wide on every option play, so once Utah faces a decent opponent, all the pressure will be on Wynn and Wide because the defense will know what's coming.

Wynn will be good in a few years, but how do you justify benching a QB who is 6-1 and was 10-13 in the first half when he was benched??

I'll tell you how: a recruiting promise. Wynn's whole entourage was there - and they knew he'd be playing tonight.

Glad the U got the win. But upset in the decision at QB.
To: Anonymous | 10:37 p.m. Oct. 31, 2009
You're a cougar fan, obviously. But guess what? That Oregon team is for real, and Utah had a great game against them.

And BYU? they thought they had a chance at a national championship after beating, what's turned out to be, a very mediocre Oklahoma team. But CRUSHED by a bad Florida State team and killed by a good TCU team.

You can't take the fact that Utah's 7-1, huh?

Go UTES!!!
Realistic Ute Fan | 10:44 p.m. Oct. 31, 2009
Don't blame Cain: Roderick was in the box calling the plays the whole game. Whittingham announced it before the game.
Impressive | 10:49 p.m. Oct. 31, 2009
Utah played a WEAK Pitt team in '04 and an UNINTERESTED Alabama team in '08. We all know that you should not have even been there last year as TCU was far superior to you last year as well.

Mark my words - this TCU team is the best ever in the MWC - THE BEST EVER.

It's a shame you don't get to play your "friends" up north this year because we would really take it to you!

By the way, impressive win Utes.
Ugly win | 10:50 p.m. Oct. 31, 2009
Ugly win better than 2 blowout losses. Utes just win. New QB gives us hope. No way TCU blows us out. Utah defense will hold them down somewhat. Not sure we can score enough though. Give Wynn the start next week then throw him to the wolves and see what he can do. He is our only chance. Cain can't do it.

Go Utes just win baby.
Anonymous | 10:53 p.m. Oct. 31, 2009
Whittingham is a dim Whit. Burns a redshirt year when he doesn't need to. Now we only have Wynn for 3 more years.

Pretty pathetic.
Doubting Fan | 10:54 p.m. Oct. 31, 2009
Come on guys, don't hate on me because I'm a realist. If you can't admit that we will likely get worked over by TCU, then you are in denial.

Like I said, I think we are a decent team. However, TCU is dominant and there is no way that with our lack of offense that we will give them any problems. I think we have a solid shot against BYU, but count on a 2nd loss after that TCU game.

Also, the comment that the Oregon that we played is different than the current Oregon team is absolutely true. Did you see those boys tonight? They are 5X better than when we played them. They are really clicking!
Oregon Different? | 10:58 p.m. Oct. 31, 2009
Darn right Oregon is a different team now. They are dinged-up. They were healthy when Utah played them. Three of the there starters are now injured, including one of the PAC 10's best d-back, Walter Thurmond III.

LAME!!!
Opinions?? | 11:03 p.m. Oct. 31, 2009
We all know what they say about opinions...... Here's mine anyway!! At the start of the season I suggested Wynn starts, and Cain "Wild Utes" it... Next week it happens. I think we have a better chance against TCU with Wynn's deep ball complemented by Cains footspeed.... I don't know if we beat TCU, but we can make a game of it!! It's our last game of the year that it really helps us!! Fast Wr's vs Slow Db's..... Running QB vs well... the best Defense for a QB to run against!!!! 10-2 going into the bowl game!!
dear byu | 11:13 p.m. Oct. 31, 2009
we don't care what you think. we are 7-1 and doing great. we care about wins, that's all. so go and drink some more "oh, next week we'll win" koolaid and we'll see you at the end of the month. let the better team win.
Re: Impressive | 11:16 p.m. Oct. 31, 2009
I take it you are a Boise State fan. Lets see, UNINTERESTED Alabama team. give me a break. Uninterested or not they still had 1 loss and were the #1 team in the country for several weeks. How would you know what their interest level was anyway?
So if TCU was far superior then why did we beat them? Oh, we got lucky? Didnt TCU only manage 10 points? Was it the missed field goals? That's must of been lucky. Or...a field goal is just another football play and they didnt execute the play. Just remember, TCU did NOTHING against Utah after the first quarter. Utah's D was excellent. What about TCU v. BSU in the bowl game last year?
There is no way you would know if you would take it to Utah because we are a top program. Boise doesnt seem to like to play any top programs, maybe once a year if that. No wonder you always go undefeated!
VA Ute | 11:17 p.m. Oct. 31, 2009
Wynn looked much more decisive and confident in the pocket than Cain...If you don't think so go back and watch the game. Cain was looking all around and couldn't decide where to throw the ball. The only reason that almost INT looked so bad is because Brooks was held on the play.

I credit Utah's coaches with making a tough decision but I think it was the right one. Remember this is Wynn's first game and no one is saying that he looked awesome, he should be able to improve upon his performance.

And to all of those who say this was a weak MWC team, I disagree. I thought Wyoming's defense looked pretty good from the very starts, give them some credit.
Re: Impressive | 11:19 p.m. Oct. 31, 2009
I guess Boise State's Fiesta Bowl BCS game was really impressive against an Oklahoma team that SURELY wanted to be there. Must have been tough playing a team whose starting QB was a wide receiver to start the year.
BSU really manned up that night, without trick plays where would you be? just a pretender like when they play any team that is really tough.

not focusing on the many traditions stolen from other big-time programs. They have struggled against AF and Wyoming at home...yikes.
Reality check coming | 11:36 p.m. Oct. 31, 2009
BYU suffered their 2nd reality check of the year last week, Now Utah will get their reality check, Both teams are not top 25 calibre, Utah has an outstanding offense but unless they trick other teams by running a punt formation defense on third down and fake teh offense into punting they will not have the defense they need to stop the powerhouses like New Mexico and Cal.
Best MWC team ever? | 11:37 p.m. Oct. 31, 2009
Are you kidding me about TCU this year being the best team ever? Come on bro - get real.

1) TCU needs to win 'em all, including their bowl game.

2) Don't call Pitt weak and Alabama disinterested as excuses for getting their butts kicked by the Utes.

3) I think the 2004 Utah team was and is the best MWC team that the MWC will ever see. That team dominated everyone and won every game by at least 14 points. TCU has already has 2 close games - they only beat Air Force by 3 points, and barely beat Clemson as well, so do your research before you start talking smack.

4) Again, try to tell me this year's TCU team would beat that Utah team - that 2004 team was the best team in the country that year - Urban Meyer + Alex Smith = unbeatable.

5) Quit leaving your messages on this message board.

Perspective | 11:44 p.m. Oct. 31, 2009
Utah has been one of the best teams in the country since the BCS started. Before you think that is an overstatement, consider how many schools have 2 undefeated seasons and 2 BCS wins.

However, this is a rebuilding year. They lose 2 cordinators, QB (MVP of the league), 2 corners who are now in the NFL and Krueger leaves early. And despite all that they are still in the top 20 and winning games. And the only loss so far is in Autzen. TCU does appear to be the best team in the league, however, Utah is doing well and should be bowling once again. And although there have been struggles, Whit has the reputation of getting the team ready for big games.

To BYU trolls, you already wasted your season. 2 blow out losses at home means you can't talk.

To Boise trolls, you're good but TCU is better. They beat you last year. And they play better competition.

I want the Utes to win always, but will not be sad to see TCU in a BCS game. They will have deserved it and should represent the MWC very well.

Go Utes, if not, Go frogs
I told people | 11:45 p.m. Oct. 31, 2009
after Texas played wyoming that they were going to give MWC teams problems. Not much offense but they play hard on defense. I tought this game was going to be close and it was. Utah is really bad on Offense. Lucky for them they play in the MWC and not the PAC 10 OR BIG 12. im not a BYU or Ute or BSU fan but TCU was the better team last year. They missed two makable field goals. This year after watching both teams it will be TCU 28-7. But I think BYU will win the game this year. Turnovers killed BYU.
Wynn = a gutsy, good call! | 12:06 a.m. Nov. 1, 2009
If Wynn gives us the best chance to win now, they you play him. I think Kyle was smart to give Wynn a few weeks to learn the system, learn the offense, and then put him in a good situation.

College football is a win now sport- YOu just don't know what things will be like in a few years and you have to make decisions on what makes you better today and not potentially four and a half years down the road.

Cain fumbles, isn't trusted to throw the ball downfield and makes it easy for a defense to drop 8-9 in coverege because all Cain can do is throw short passes.

I think we will see defenses respect Wynn's arm more and it should open things up a little more. Good decision Kyle!
Pittsburgh Ute | 12:07 a.m. Nov. 1, 2009
I love people calling this our 'dream season'. Most Ute fans know that this is a rebuilding year. The fact that we can still compete and still have a chance to win the MWC speaks of how far this team has come.
BSU fans, were you guys not interested in your bowl game last year? That must be why you got spanked so bad.
TCU fans should be ashamed. I watched parts of today's game, there was maybe 30k fans there at the most. Fans looked bored and uninterested. You want national respect yet your stadium is empty. So much for texas football pride.
The Utes will just continue to improve and the restof you will continue to try to downplay our success to make yourselves feel better. It is kinda sad to watch you guys.
GO UTES!!
Re: reality check | 12:16 a.m. Nov. 1, 2009
What???
#7 Iowa Has Trailed...  | 12:18 a.m. Nov. 1, 2009
#7 Iowa Has Trailed in 8 of its 9 wins this year and is being hailed as a resilient team.

Utah has trailed in a number of its games and is being excoriated for its inconsistencies.

All Utah does consistently is win games.
RE Perspective | 12:18 a.m. Nov. 1, 2009
Texas plays a tougher schedule every year than Utah will ever know, and UT regularly wins BCS bowl games. Looks like UT is set to win its 5th National Championship this season. That is greatness on the gridiron.

Hookem!!!
To yewts down | 12:20 a.m. Nov. 1, 2009
Yes, we struggled against AFA and Wyo at home, but not as much as your team struggled against TCU and Florida State - who has won a whopping ONE game since their visit to Provo 6 weeks ago. Yes we struggled, but at least we still won!

And to those posters who insist that TCU was a "far" better team last year, doesn't the scoreboard mean ANYTHING to you guys? Last time I checked, there are still only 2 columns in the football standings: W and L. No coulda's shoulda's woulda's, only did's or didn'ts.
RE; Scooter | 12:57 a.m. Nov. 1, 2009
I hope TCU is also a BCS buster and wins their bowl game. But I do not hope they make the NCG. That would be detrimental to the MWC in the long run. All the litigation and Governmental hearings would be proven unfounded if a team not from a BCS league made the championship game.
