The Mall is owned by General Growth. Not Holladay. Not the Mayor.

Given their recent settlement with Camco at Fashion Place (reported in the DNews last week) I hope that they will proceed with the project as planned.

If you have seen the plans, it is truly world class.

Fotheringham and Topham are Nancy Reaganites, all they can do is "Just say no!"

Carol's website says she opposes plans for the Village in Holladay. Flip-flop or reporting flub?

Someone should explain to Fotheringham that GGP isn't selling the mall, "Eastern Contacts" or not. Holladay can't force GGP to sell. I suppose you could condemn it, but where would little Holladay come up with the $100 million price tag?

better do something with the place, it's becoming a nuisance to look at while driving to work. What fond memories I had as kid wandering the halls of Cottonwood Mall.

Topham needs to get a clue. He only criticizes, offers no solutions and tries to incite fear with conspiracy. Let's get a few things straight: there is no low-income housing, no high-density, and no secret meetings. You don't have to be actively involved in City politics to know this. Nice try, Topham. Now, do you have anything substantial to contribute?

Mayor Webb is right; this election is about leadership. In order to get things accomplished, a Mayor has to be able to work civilly with the City Council, the County Council, the UPD, the UFA, the Planning and Zoning Department, commercial developers, land owners, investors, small business owners, City constituents, and all other City stakeholders. Mayor Webb has the leadership skills to do this as evidenced by all of his accomplishments. But how can Topham expect to get anything accomplished as Mayor when he can't work well with anyone? He offends just about everyone he meets. I mean, what's he got against renters, immigrants, the Irish and Italians anyway?

"My feedback is that most people seem very upset with the developmental trends of the city in recent years,". Topham tried that line on me as well, and then I asked him how he planned on substituting the taxing revenues that this economic development would create. HE HAD NO ANSWER. Topham's plan (and I use that word very loosely) will create a city that is forced to raise taxes on its citizens.

Furthermore, there are a lot of campaign promises coming from these candidates. Fotheringham says he has contacts in the East. What he isn't saying is that he has to convince a Federal Bankruptcy Judge that he knows better in the largest retail bankruptcy ever. I don't think so.

I liked one of the comments above: The village center truly is world class.

In West Valley City we just all get along. Everyone seems to be crying over spilled milk. You need a mall or your community will need to travel further for their shopping.

In keeping with a longstanding Deseret News policy of not publishing stories the day before or the day of the election, no comments will be posted on election stories Monday or Tuesday. The rationale for this policy being applied to comments is to prevent the last-minute dissemination of untrue allegations against a candidate that could influence voters.
