Hmmmm...who told me that Piute wouldn't beat Monticello in the quarters. Whoever you are I forgive you. I'm not one to hold grudges.
Let's see, I believe I called the final four with 100% accuracy. Now to give you my five final I think I thinks:
(1) I think that Region 17 and 18 are really down. Their champions were just not good period. Sorry!
(2) I think I have no idea how Duchesne beat Rich at Rich. Maybe they didn't have their "A" game in Round 1 yesterday, but they were equally unimpressive.
(3) I think that of the final four, Altamont has the most weaknesses. Those will be exposed at 10:30 today.
(4) I think that Piute and Panguitch will meet tonight for the state title making it an all Region 20 final. They should. They are the two best teams in this tourney and if you dispute that, you simply are not watching how they dismantle their opponents. Piute sweeping Monticello? Impressive!
(5) I think if they minimize their service errors, Piute finally beats Panguitch. Can you say "Piute State Champions?" I can! Piute will be crowned State Champs tonight!

Like I said, Piute cannot close the deal.

Well, dang, I came within one game of picking all of the Championship bracket games correctly, but as Chuck said Piute couldn't close the deal. I suppose I picked that last game more with the heart than the facts.
These are those facts: Fact 1) Panguitch plays defense as well as any team in that building during the tourney (3A-1A). They simply don't let the ball hit the floor. There were several hard hit shots that against almost any other team, score a point. But not against the Bobcats. Fact 2) Kalani Norris is as good a player as I have seen in a number of years. Yes, there may be better players at certain skills, but her overall game is sensational. Fact 3) Troy Norris controls a game as well as any coach can from the bench. He just snuffs rallies and gets his girls going again. There were several times when I thought Piute was going to rally and win a game, but Norris' timeouts shut them down each time.
My sincere congratulations to the Bobcats for a phenomenal year and being crowned state champs!
We'll see you next year volleyball fans!
