The Supreme Court pretty much did away with State rights, years ago, with their liberal interpretation of the Commerce clause.

But things are different now. People have made too big a deal of the "Public Option". If we get one it would cover a small percentage of Americans and would not "kill" the competition. The biggest issue with Health Insurance Reform is regulating insurance companies so that they can't deny people for "pre-existing" considions. This itself, would help so many people (including me). I am a hard working middle class American who doesn't currently have health insurance. When I tried to get a private plan I was denied because of pre-existing conditions. My issues are not serious, but I wanted a plan "just in case". This is unacceptable and this will be fixed under the plan that is going to pass. Research before you make false accusations about things you don't understand.

We need only additional players in the healthcare that are able to bring costs down and the quality up?

HIGH COSTS AND DECREASED QUALITY ARE THE PROBLEM.

Walmart, Costco, Sams Club, etc are large clearing houses.. How do they increase competition.. They dont.

However these large clearing houses do reduce costs by buying in quantity and can demand quality because of it and offer return policys. A better distribution system too.

Yes, there may be some lines to wait in at times at walmart etc. But people accept this for reduced costs and better buys where before they could not afford it.

The Government system would give this type of large competition which would force the industry to reduce the waste going on while giving the public a better cost for their services.

Its not about increasing competition, its about reducing costs by becoming more efficient by combining the efforts (consolidation).

Time for a large player in the industry (Government) to get involved. The Government runs medicare etc more efficiently than the private industry. That upsets the current greedy fatcats in the private industry.

States can deny their residents the option for government affordable healthcare.

They can also deny Walmarts and a whole bunch of other large companies who reduce costs for people with their mass distribution and buying power.

Why would they do this?

The individual states want to protect their local healthcare monopolies which increase costs on their residents. These healthcare monopolies pay off politicians who make these decisions.

A state has the right to increase costs of healthcare for its residents...

What about reducing costs of healthcare for its residents?
