Some of my fondest adventures are sailing in Galveston Bay tropical storms and winter gales. Summer heat and turbid water hides that this is a place of magnificent beauty.

I served my mission in Texas, and my first area was Galveston. It was really neat to see all of it. My apartment was right on Seawall boulevard. But the water didn't look very clean. I guess it was because of the channel that a lot of the oil rigs take up Galveston Bay. But overall, it is a very kid friendly place to swim, because the waves are very small. I like to call them "ankle slappers". But Galveston is truelly a gem there in southern Texas.

I much prefer the beaches in Galveston to the ones on the west coast. They aren't much to look at, but kids don't care about that. The water is warm! They can walk out for a long way, and they aren't over crowded. They are wonderful!

I love the spirit and history that defines Galveston - nothing can ever take that away. She will always serve as inspiration to me and will never be far in my thoughts.
