You incorrectly stated that Hunter and Cottonwood ar Region 2 co-champs. Wrong. Hunter beat Cottonwood and Skyline in back-to-back wins and won the Region 2 crown outright. Give them the credit thats due for a great 5-game winning streak.

If you both have 5-1 records then you share the Region Title, even if one team beat the other.

Hunter, sorry but the reality is that you share the region title. You lost to West and finished with just as many loses as Cottonwood. Your head-to-head win means you get the No. 1 seed but it doesn't mean you were the outright region champ. Sorry buddy.

there are very few sporting events I look forward to as much as the high school football playoffs. I agree with the article, there are plenty of teams who can win it all this year. I think anyone who tries to pick the Alta v Bingham winner in the semi's is just flipping a coin, but I think we'll see the winner of the Alta v Bingham semi vs Pleasant Grove in the finals, and I think it will be Lone Peak in the semi's with PG. I'd love to see Hunter or Syracuse or Davis play on the turf, but it's going to be an uphill battle for Region 1.

This should be a great year for 5A football. There are some great teams and there will be some great games. I am hoping Davis and Hunter pull off some big upsets this year. Good luck to all teams. It should be fun!

If Davis needs to be taken seriously to win the title then so does Viewmont. If you'll remember the Vikings beat Davis at Davis. Not impressive enough?

This is the most exciting season for 5a football, it is a tossup for 5 or 6 teams. And everyone is giving reason why their team is the best. I think there will be some surprises from tonight forward. The parity is good, goes to show you how much utah football has improved. That has helped recruiting as well!!!

Cottonwood is co champions with hunter, Hunter did not win the region outright. If they would of beat a .500 West team then they would of. I also firmly believe that Cottonwood has a good chance of beating Alta in the rematch. Thats all I have been thinking about since August 21st, to bad Payne is their to feed them our plays. Its kinda hard to beat someone who knows exactly what you are going to do

There will be at least three teams from region 4 in the semi's.(Alta, PG, LP) Region 4 is harder region and will dominate in the playoffs. We may even have four teams in the semi's if Jordan can pull an upset. The only teams that could possibly compete with region 4 teams in the playoffs are Davis and Bingham. There is nobody else that has the quality of teams we do. A team from Region 4 will win State.

re: cow cow....it's not difficult to figure out what any team is running after watching video so regardless of Payne's inside info, Alta will know what CW is going to run anyway. I'd suggest CW pay more attention to Viewmont before thinking about a rematch at Alta, I think Viewmont is going to be a surprise team. That group has been good for years and if things click they have the talent to win a game in the playoffs.

Where is Kearns I thought they had the greatest coaches in the state the man from Texas you have been there for 4 years you should be in the state play offs? The seniors you just had have been with you for 4 years I would think you should be able to coach and win if you have had them in your program for that long learning your system?

I like the way Peck tries to take the focus off of Bingham, good try, bottom line is Bingham, is the team to try to unseat. They are favored to take state, would be sweet if Jordan, could pull it off, I see an upset.

I agree to a Point, Payne knows all the pass patterns and signals and when you can tell the DB what exactly they are going to run on the route that makes it pretty easy to defend. CW does need to Focus on Viewmont Today as Alta should be focused on Fremont until next week. Payne sure sold out his Life long friends when he did that on the sidelines in Game 1 with Alta. They have lost all respect for him at this point. Whats worse is the Alta Coaches let him tell them the plays. I guess win at all costs even if it is a little unethical. Good Thing to be teaching HS kids, Win at all costs even if you have to cheat to get there.

I looked through all of the first round games, and frankly that is the ONLY game that IS a guarantee. A guarantee that PG hammers Riverton.

Seriously, anyone can loose this first week in 5A, with the exception of PG. The talent level is just HUGE between the 2 teams. The game will look a lot like the Alta v Riverton game. LP over WJ is the second easiest game to pick. The rest could go either way.

The Alta game was 31-7 when they called off the dogs. They pulled the starters in the 3rd. That is a pounding. TV finally plays a good team and look what happens. Had they not played PG and Alta, they would be crying they were the best like every year.

You are right 'THERE' are teams that would 'LOSE' by 100 'POINTS' to Timpview, but not in 5A. There are also 5-6 5A teams that would roll TV.

pg barely beat Riverton and Riverton gave the game away totally outplayed pg. Alta had a tough game over Freemont. lp only beat WJ by 20 and wj threw 6 picks, sounds like region 4 isnt that much better than the other regions.

Wj could only muster a few first downs. It was 24 to 0 in the third. The JV played then. The LP kids took the ball away six times to many athletes for WJ. Region 4 is legit.

Good job Jordan on beating Brighton twice to get there but Bingham aint no Brighton.

And to all you region 4 homers who predicted the upset, I'll give you that region 4 is good but Bingham is for real too.
