I love "It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown" because it does such a great and subtle job of teaching children about how stupid superstitious religious nonsense is! Linus is the classic "believer" who concocts elaborate stories to preserve his "faith" in the Great Pumpkin!

This insightful movie should be required viewing for ALL LDS children, who should be encouraged to "liken the movie unto themselves".

My husband grew up watching "Winny the Winsome Witch." You can find these short clips (roughly 6 minutes each) easily on YouTube by searching 'winsome witch'. Winny portrays a helpful, but often mischievous witch whose spells don't always turn out how. I recommend it- it's right up there with the reruns from the Jetsons and Bugs Bunny!

I can't do without The Great Pumpkin and The Legend of Sleep Hollow cartoons, but I've added the Curse of the Were Rabbit to my collection. It's hilarious!

Another fun Halloween movie is "The Ghost and Mr. Chicken" with Don Knotts. It is geared for older children up to adults. It's a little corny but it is fun. Don Knott's character has to spend the night in a haunted house for a newspaper he works for.

The Garfield Halloween special from probably 1989-ish is really excellent as well, if you can ban a copy. It was really cute and really funny. Great for the whole family.

"It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown" is just one of many Halloween-themed cartoons safe to watch with kids.
