I think a better name for the poetry described here is 'American West Poetry'. Sure, the cowboy moniker is romantic sounding, but a lot of what is presented is ranching life, and some of ranching life was experienced by cowboys, but the cowboy thing , ain't what it is and was all about. The cowboy was an itinerant laborer, but the rancher was tied to the land. That puts a whole 'nother slant on the deal. You also have to include Native Americans in the mix, hence the American West Poetry.
