I am so stoked for this BYU basketball season. Though they will not go too far into the tournament like every year, they will make it fun to watch.
BYU 10-0 | 1:13 a.m. Oct. 29, 2009
They'll do fine during their weak non-conf schedule before dropping their first conf game vs UNLV.
Who is responsible for scheduling the Rebels first up?
Smeagol | 2:10 a.m. Oct. 29, 2009
UNLV wins the conference, most talented team since kruger has been there, even more talented than the sweet 16 team three years ago. BYU should contend and make it to the NCAAs only to get blown off the court in the first round.

It looks like the Y will have a great team this year--no star, i.e. Cummard, to throw anyone off--all are starting off as one great team. My point though is a question, Why can't all the BYU games be shown on BYU TV? BYU is a church owned school and they own BYU-TV. SO whay can't the games (all of them) be televised?
Anonymous | 8:09 a.m. Oct. 29, 2009
They are televised. Get Directv.

Smeagol you are back! Welcome aboard. Always good to have someone on here present us another perspective. I agree with Smeagol that BYU will finish behind the Rebs in the MWC and behind USU in the state of Utah.

UNLV? I think not. SDS is the real deal this year. But the stars are alligned to allow BYU to win a first round game!
Re: OHIOBYUFand | 9:16 a.m. Oct. 29, 2009
You need to study up on TV rights to broadcast games. It's really pretty simple. BYU belongs to the MWC. The MWC sold it's TV rights to the mtn. channel. Therefore BYU cannot broadcast games on their own channel because that would violate the contract the MWC signed. BYU could go independant and then show 100% of football and basketball games on BYU-TV but they would also miss out on a lot of revenue.
Re: Smeagol | 9:58 a.m. Oct. 29, 2009
So what do you know that the rest of the MWC doesn't? Wasn't UNLV picked to finish #3 or #4? I suppose the Rebels could surprise and have a good team but as of yet, they're unproven. Just because you're a fan and say so, doesn't mean they're good.

I laugh at those that always predict BYU will not be good, simply because they want them so badly to not be good. Who's won at least a share of the MWC Regular Season Basketball Championship the last three years (which is much more impressive then the MWC tournament since it's proven over 16 games and not some flash-in-the-pan three day whirlwind event)? Joke all you want about BYU not getting out of the first round of the NCAA, they've at least been there, and deserved to be there, three years in a row. Any MWC (or WAC) school wishes as much.

Once Versus and Directv work out their problems, Directv is the way to go if you live outside of Utah and want to see BYU games. If you live in Utah you can go with Directv or Comcast.

I personally like BYU chances this year. The NCAA stuff is all predicated on seeding by the powers that meet in the secret room. I personally believe that if Utah and BYU could have swapped opponents, they both would have had a better chance to move on in the tournament. On paper, BYU matched up better with Arizona and Utah with Texas A&M.

Should be a fun basketball year!
Utes are quiet today | 11:25 a.m. Oct. 29, 2009
So UNLVites are squaking, but we're hearing from the Yewties yet.
BYU picked to win it all | 12:17 p.m. Oct. 29, 2009
Preseason hype has BYU winning the MWC, so that's all we have to go on, and the rest of the talk is just other teams wanting the respect BYU owns until proven otherwise.

Smeagol | 12:41 p.m. Oct. 29, 2009
UNLV was picked 5th in the MWC when they went to the sweet sixteen three years ago, and if you look at the past preseason rankings they are rarly right. So yes i do know something others don't, i actually pay attention, unlike the people who vote in the preseason polls (all college sports included)
And BYU can have their NCAA tourny loses, i'll take NCAA tourny wins. BYU basketball is just like football, wins lots of regular season games against average teams and gets blown out against any athletic, semi-skilled team. Also if BYU (football or basketball) team is playing a meanful game odds are BYU is getting blown out.
Let's keep it real. | 1:35 p.m. Oct. 29, 2009
It is only basketball after all.
Danny from the Bay | 2:15 p.m. Oct. 29, 2009
Haha I think their have been WAC teams with more success than BYU in the last ten years as far as postseason games. Nevada and USU. Sorry Re:Smeagol but your team is very average
Cougar in Mongolia | 5:40 p.m. Oct. 29, 2009
Good luck Cougars and Coach Rose from the steppes. Why not play USU in Ulaanbaatar? It's not as cold as Cache Valley, the food is better and the fans are more polite.
grumpolman | 5:50 p.m. Oct. 29, 2009
The naysayers can keep yapping, who cares, those who are close to the Cougar program know that this team has something past teams haven't had and that's depth. Every position is very deep especially the post something we haven't had in a long, long time. Just let them keep flapping their traps this year's team will prove them all wrong, this team will dominate the conference and be able to play with anyone in the country, you heard it here first.
U of U | 9:01 p.m. Oct. 29, 2009
Someone wanted a post from the U. So here it is.. I, like a lot of Utah fans, could not be happier that Dave Rose has beaten his scare with cancer and is back on the bench. Certain things supercede sports and this is definitely one of them. Congrats Coach Rose. Fight on.
Smeagol should stick to b-ball | 12:20 a.m. Oct. 30, 2009
So, a UNLV fan talking smack on BYU football, huh? Good one.
UNLV  | 9:29 a.m. Oct. 30, 2009
Since we are talking football here didn't UNLV get beat by 70 points to their in state rival Reno? I thought that was a Basketball score when I first saw it. What a beat down that was to a team that Colorado St and Notre Dame dominated. Way to represent the MWC againt the WAC. UNLV is the biggest joke in the MWC in football period!!!
Ute fan | 10:08 a.m. Oct. 30, 2009
I'm glad Rose is well. He's the type of Coach I wish we had at the U.

Anyways, Boylen has a team that will most likely go undefeated in conference play. We have a tough non-conf schedule so it should be brutal, but lots of lessons can be learned. I think our toughest game will be at UNLV, but we match up better than anyone, and should still win by double digits in Vegas. I also think our next closest game will be in Provo, but we should still win by 10 since we have lots of experience coming back and BYU lost their 4 best players.
labman | 10:37 a.m. Oct. 30, 2009
No one knows how the MWC b-ball will finish, especially the preseason media picks! Give them a few games and then start talking smack! If a coach does his job, every year should show hope for a championship. BYU seems to do better in the underdog role than preseason favorite. I hope this year is different and the cougs play to the preseason hype. Attitude isn't everything, but it is a big piece of winning and Dave Rose has controlled attitude and I like it!!!! so his team will compete and play over their heads as usual.
go cougs.
Jordan | 12:31 p.m. Oct. 30, 2009
I am a Ute fan, but you Cougs look good this year, and the U not as good. I am sure there will be plenty of competition, though, and I can't wait to see how the season plays out! Best of luck, but Go Utes!
Spokane Aggie | 4:29 p.m. Oct. 30, 2009
The only thing worse than Cougar football fans are Cougar basketball fans. Aggies don't have much in football to cheer for, but we consistantly pound the kitty kats in B-ball. Look at the picture in this article, there is no worse place to watch a game than the Marriott Center. Here's to the beating you'll be taking at the Spectrum in Logan this Fall.
BYU picked to???? | 5:00 p.m. Oct. 30, 2009
Yepper...just like in FB....NC, Heisman, and all the goo goo.

Last year it was MWC Champs--split that one boys, and complete flop in tourney.....yepper, another typial YBu year from the fans!!

Best just go read your books with a glass of milkie and a chocie cookie.
Monkeys | 7:16 p.m. Oct. 30, 2009
you monkeys utes and rebels are the one who keep doing all the talk putting the monkeys on our players and Coach Dave Rose backs. Well, one game at a time BYU and only the Rebels will get this stupid home field advantage during their home cooking tourney. Hope the game will be moved to MGM or smaller Orleans Arena. Hopefully T&M facility sewer line burst and will be force to other gym!
