The old crew voted for higher taxes. Don't send them back.

They deserve to lose for the tax increases, out with the old, in with the new. If they raise taxes we'll boot them too till someone gets it right.

You don't raise taxes in a recession.

If we don't have a change on the Council, then change is all residents will have left in our pockets.

IKEA came for tax breaks not increases. They get breaks and the residents get increases. This is Stenquist's idea of growth? Taking resident's money and spending it on his growth projects.

Doesn't the Planning Commission Rappleye is on have a vote or recommendation when low density housing becomes high density? Is he in favor of it, ignored or silent when it happens?

When asked, "The Two Experienced Council Members" said they voted for the increase because they saw the economy and tax revenues slipping. So they raised taxes?

Wait! It gets worse. After raising residents taxes they decided they now had enough money to increase spending!

Powers must teach economics or government or both. He is the only candidate that understands taxes and spending in a recession. Thank goodness someone does. We need Powers voice on the Council.

New Leadership Needed | 1:58 p.m. Oct. 29, 2009
Colbert strongly opposed the tax increase, along with Councilwoman Davis. Too bad she isn't running for re-election! Davis is also opposed to more high density housing in the Galena Park area.

The critical issue the press is ignoring is the ongoing demand by the mayor's family to have the city taxpayer's build a road across its meat packing plant property in order to increase its value, so they can sell it for development and reap a windfall profit. The entire city council is opposed to using the city's tax dollars to pay for this unnecessary road, just to benefit the mayor's family.
Sad Day in Draper | 12:00 p.m. Oct. 30, 2009
How sad to witness the politics of nuance and misrepresentation taking place in Draper politics. If you know Darrell Smith, you know of his commitment to integrity and untold hours of service to the city. He has earned a level of respect from Salt Lake County and the State of Utah that has never been equalled in Draper City. His leadership brought tremendous investment of road funding from the state to address the needs of a growing community. If you want a mayor who is "just words" and who has complicated relationships for Draper throughout the valley...vote for Colbert. I would hope the residents of Draper send a resounding message to the cheap shots and style of this man and vote to re-elect Darrell Smith.

Are you denying that the Smith Family Trust is demanding the city pay 2 to 3 million dollars using taxpayer funds to construct a road across its property? Further, are you denying that representatives of the family, their realtor and attorny have repeatedly used staff and city council time and threatened litigation if they don't get their way, even though they have repeatedly been told "No" by the entire city council. This road is simply not needed and only serves the interest of the Smith family. At this time, it is simply unaffordable. The city has far greater needs, especially during a downturn in the economy. The continued sense of entitlement is dissappointing. Whether or not you support Colbert, won't make a difference. The Smith Family Trust will not get their road. Perhaps it will be newsworthy once the lawsuit is filed.
Darrell Smith: The Right Choice | 10:25 p.m. Nov. 1, 2009
When you want to know the man, you look at the fruits of his labors. Draper has only become better under Mayor Darrell Smith's highly capable leadership.

Mayor Smith has been our neighbor for over a decade. The fact is he's been a great neighbor to everyone in Draper for a many years. He is a loyal servant of the people, filled with honest integrity, always holding the best interests of others above his own. I say that from experience. He's the only man I've ever known who built his fence with the best side facing his neighbor, not his own. I know; my family was at that time the recipient.

Mayor Smith selflessly serves his city. With him, people matter. If you know him, you know he's the right choice--the only choice for Draper.

In keeping with a longstanding Deseret News policy of not publishing stories the day before or the day of the election, no comments will be posted on election stories Monday or Tuesday. The rationale for this policy being applied to comments is to prevent the last-minute dissemination of untrue allegations against a candidate that could influence voters.
