Comments about ‘Obama showing contempt for core American values’

Yawn. Seems like Thomas Sowell has been writing the same column over and over again for a year. He uses all the same tired old paragraphs, but just hits shuffle.

Values are things we esteem to be the most important in our lives,the things that matter most to us, our highest priorities and our highest ideals. Our values drive our decisions and evertime we make an important choice, we consult our values for guidance.It influences everything about us including how we live, what we love and even how we vote. Ultimately we are what we value! The war in America is about what is valuable and what is not. Time honored values:family, integrety, honesty, personal freedom, hard work and self reliance are being replaced by a victimhood mentality, a something for nothing mentality and and irrepsonsible behavoir is excused and even applauded by some. The war in America is getting hotter and the battleground is the hearts the minds and the character of its people; its values! America will not become better until its people become better. America will continue to decline as the values of Americans decline.

Ecellent article! It really is all about values (or the lack thereof). Dr. Sowell is correct about our President! He values nothing except gaining more power and control.

The fact that people are so blinded and so willing to hand over their rights to the government is very disturbing. That the man who said “The constitution is flawed and should be changed,” and is now trying to do just that and people praise him is unthinkable. But it is happening. And the fact that people like myself who cherish our freedoms and the constitution that provides it, say anything about what we don’t like about his policies, we are branded as racists. What have we as Americans turned into? I never thought I would see this much effort in destroying our country in my life time. People need to wake up before what we do have left is gone.

That's understandable since you share the same lack of values as Obama! Maybe its time you took a good look at what you value! Free lunches paid by your neighbors are liablities, not values.

If you want to know what a person values, just look at what they find contemptable! Obama qualifies completely as having nothing but contempt for anything our grandparents would have valued; integrity, honesty, hard work and self reliance.

Please stop the madness, DN! You are only insulting the intelligence of your readers and encouraging the vengeance-seeking, revanchist far right with stuff like this.

It is clear what Obama wants to do to this country. I just pray that enough people wake up soon enough to prevent it. I don't expect MormonDem to offer thanks to those who preserve his freedom to sleep through a near disaster. I just hope his taking freedom forgranted attitude doesn't get in the way.

You buy into all Obama is doing? Eat, drink and be merry, for tomorrow we die, right? I think you have forgotten the context of that philosophy.

Sowell continues to regurgitate every tired lie and half-truth spewed by the far right since Obama first became a candidate for office. How he has any connection to a legitimate educational institution or credibility by anyone is beyond me.

There is a war going on in America and the victors will the ones who will govern the people of America and decide what the rights and freedoms will be. It is a war which will decide whether we will be controlled by our Constitutional government or by the CEO of the mega private Corporation.

Soldiers like Thomas Sowell come forth under the banner of Conservativism, with their cannons spewing the hot lead of lies like “arbitrarily cut the pay of executives in private businesses by 50 percent or 90 percent“, “be talking about restricting talk radio”, “subsidize newspapers – that is, to create a situation where some newspapers' survival would depend on the government liking what they publish“, “deciding who could and could not get life-saving medical treatments”. And these are only the tiny tip of the iceberg of falsehoods.

Many people chide the government for it’s inefficiencies, misdirection, and control over individual freedoms, but “they ain’t seen nothing yet” til they have to live under government by the corporation where the only important thing is the corporate goals.

C- Dr. Sowell. Poorly researched. Pay was not cut, it was increased. Bonuses were cut.

All the above wake up calls to our deteorating values are actually exactly upside down. American values were lost decades ago. The values of freedom, liberty, and justice have always been at the core of America's success but somehow those core values were replaced with the value of wealth creation and accumulation. There's nothing wrong with wealth creation and in fact it's neccessary but the largest wealth creating machine in the world is not what makes us great. Wealth should be created and used to further freedom liberty and justice not the other way around.

The above values comments clearly have freedom, wealth, and justice serving wealth.

I would expect to walk in these folks house and see the Book of Mormon and Atlas Shrugged sitting side by side.

Obama’s family values are probably every bit as strong as any others in this nation. Your purpose of making people hate Obama will fail for thinking people.

You do a discredit to our grandparents thinking they only valued things good for slaves. The knew that success in this world takes wit, intelligence and opportunity as well.

One thing that you fail to address is the merging of business and government. I don't mean the buyout of the auto industries, but the relationship that GE has with the government.

GE is using the government to enact legislation and policies that directly benefit them. The push for more wind power benefits GE because GE is the world's largest producer of wind turbines. GE business interests are being catered to, and nobody seems to care.

If things continue as they have for the past 16 years, the DNC and GOP will just be subsidaries of a large corporation. We the people need to send a message to Washington. They need to know that the people come first.
