The story brings back a lot of memories. As a youth in 1968-69 I used to offer service hours by serving at the Hukilau, until it was shut down by the Board of Health for various infractions. It's where I got my introduction to Hawaiian food. Before the meal, the tourists used to wade into the bay with a net, but I don't recall that anyone actually caught anything except a little seaweed. Still, I think it was a fun experience for everyone involved, especially this haole kamaaina.
