trick or treaters

don't exist anymore. trunk or treaters do however.

What a joke. I feel safer already. I love how the law enforcement community grandstands these DUI blitzes every year in the name of public safety. Law enforcement has long since stopped being about serving and protecting. It does, however, do a great job harrassing people. Keep up the great work guys.

@Whiteman1

I would be a majority of people would be all for the harrassment, humiliation, and removal from the roads of anyone driving under influence of drugs/alcohol. You have a problem with that?

No to check points

These DUI blitzes are out of hand. I went though the one in Bountiful a few months back. 50 police officers, about 40 police cars. A mobile command center worth aprox $600,000 these check points are out of control, they look like a scene out of a Rambo movie. Go back to the highways and streets and look for people who seem to be impaired. And stop pulling over innocent people.

What has our country become? No one wants drunks on the road but please no one wants to have our freedoms taken away also. I for one would likke to see people protesting at these check points. Its time we fight back these check points just go to far.

Skunk the Trunk

Trunk or treat is lame.Get out there and earn that candy.

whaaaaa....did you drop you binky

somewherein time

Have to agree with Whiteman1 it's not about serving it's about revenue generation to get more police to generate more revenue.

Yellow Cab

Well its going to be a Yellow Cab night. Rather than a drink, drive, take chances night. Remember who you are and what you stand for...

Is is distressing to read so many comments from people who would rather see the public safety endangered than see alcohol use limited in the slightest manner. There was a time in this Country when members of the public would not tolerate drunkenness, sloth, and out-of-control behavior. It is no wonder that modern society is such a mess.

Go UHP!

This is a DUI blitz, not a DUI check point. And this cant be about "revenue generation" since the UHP doesnt have their own courts. All the troopers citations are handled by the city courts. The real motivation for the troopers is to SAVE LIVES! If your family member was killed by a drunk Im sure your attitudes would change in a heart beat.

Sanity

I have all intentions of getting completely drunk on Halloween night. I also will ensure that I have a safe ride home. There is no excuse for driving drunk. Find a ride or stay home and have a few drinks. Mr. Spring, I would submit that all of the ills of "modern society" can be blamed on a small portion of the populace that drinks irresponsibly. The vast majority are law-abiding individuals.

Run buses longer

If this were about safety the UTA buses would be running later than 11:30 pm on a weekend.

I Agree!

UHP put their lives on the line to keep us safe. I plan on getting plastered Halloween night, I also plan on staying where the party is. There aren't many that choose to take their lives and the lives of others, into their hands and get behind the wheel drunk. The majority of us drink responsibly.

PLEASE UHP!

Run these EVERY night, not just on Halloween. We need AS MANY AS POSSIBLE, running AS OFTEN AS POSSIBLE!

I'm glad to stop, show you my license, registration and insurance. Takes 20 seconds. No big deal to me. But it's a great tool to use against drunks, unlicensced drivers, and the uninsured.

ALL of who need to be taken off the roads.

Shawn

Why not take the away some of the checkpoints and take that money and put it towards more programs like the AAA program. They will tow your car home for you and take you with them for free tonight. Put money towards programs that help people get home safely rather than just wasting everyones resources. People are going to drink one way or another so why not PREVENT their drunk driving rather than PUNISH them. Prevention will be safer for everyone whereas punishment only provides a source of revenue.
