Congrad's Mr. John Ferdon, all the hard work pays off, well done sir...Very proud of you!

And Shame

to ATK for laying off huge numbers of olders workers in northern Utah. Apparently spending a life to make a good product doesn't matter to execs.

to Shame 5:35

That's CAPITALISM, take the money and run.

Beautiful Picture!

Congradulations to the "workers" who made it happen.

Joe Bauman

Great story, great rocket, great photo. Now it's time for America to stop dilly-dallying and head back to the moon. There's an awful lot of space to explore.

Bla Bla

Thank you for spending money "out there" in the space looking for E.T, than spending the MILLIONS in earth american REAL ISSUES

To: And Shame

Don't talk to the "Execs" about laying off workers. Talk to the people in our government. Those are the people that are hard at work taking money from the WORKERS and giving it to those who (in many cases but not all) CHOSE NOT TO WORK HARD.

Joe Moe

@Bla Bla (5:32)

Maybe. This launch cost about 500 million dollars. We say, aren't there better ways to spend that? But where did the actual money go? Not to China, like much of our money.

It went to aeronautic engineers (including here in Utah), base workers in Florida, safety engineers, NASA officials, etc., etc., etc. Career professionals and skilled labor alike.

If you have a better plan about how to give that money to someone else, let Obama know...I'm sure he'd be glad to listen. Or if you like the idea of more layoffs at ATK, we could just cancel the program.

Now, I do not mean to say that any random project should be pursued just to sustain jobs. But if the project dates back years and has national support, then it's a win-win.

Someday you want to really look for some facts - try examing all of the technology, jobs, and advances to OUR American society that have precipitated from the great work teams like this and NASA have contributed through our space programs.

DumDumDum

Does anyone know when ATK moved from Promontory to Plymouth?

To Bla Bla, you are uneducated brother. To And Shame, you are also uneducated.

The Benefits

Ever heard of an EpiPen? It saves hunreds of lives a year. Where'd it come from? It was developed for John Glen's earth orbit in case he started to black out. There are thousands of products and secondary jobs that are created through the space program. Much of our technology today evolved out of the Apollo program in the 60's. The products and technology that have come about due to the space program affect each of our lives EVERY DAY, and our quality of life is better for it. NASA has waste, just like any other government program, but it is one of the VERY FEW government programs that has actually provided positive results. Do the research and stop complaining! You will see the dollars spent have been a great investment, unlike food stamps and SSI and the rest of the welfare-type programs the motivate people NOT to work.

Tang

The day I found out that Tang was, in fact, not developed by NASA was one of the low points of my life. I had considered the beverage to be the crowning achievement of the Agency.

I am afraid to do further research, what else might I find? WD40 was not invented for NASA? The military did not develop instant coffee and chicken nuggets? Horrors.

Insight

My brother-in-law is a top staffer for a Dem member of the US Senate. According to him, this NASA project will not get any further off the ground, pardon the pun, for many, many, many years...SAD!

I still say SHAME

not sure why anonymous thinks I'm uneducated. ATK did, indeed, lay off over 1000 workers this year, most of them over age 45 and many with 20 -25 yrs experience. Way to say thanks for that many years of service.

Since there is plenty of age discrimination out there (often worded as "you are over qualified for this position) those experienced workers are left with little to nothing.
