Wait... I kept seeing Brighton fans saying on here that they were going to beat Bingham in the first round... But here it says that they lost and won't even be in the playoffs. Now that's confusing! Can someone explain?
don't overlook Jordan | 12:40 a.m. Oct. 28, 2009
looks like Jordan found its defense. bingham, you better be ready to play on Saturday.
Congrats to both teams | 1:41 a.m. Oct. 28, 2009
Its unfortunate that such a great team as Brighton this year will not be in the playoffs. My guess is that if they were in any other region they would have entered with a great seeding. I am still impressed with such a talented team.

Great job Jordan!! Its tough to beat a good team twice and it showed that you deserve a playoff berth. You may even get an upset over Bingham, its been a while since they played anyone good.

What Jordan defense ? | 2:41 a.m. Oct. 28, 2009
Jordan gives up almost as many points as they score. Strange as it is sounds Jordan wins with its offense. However, championships are won with defense ! The smashmouth grind out the clock offense of Bingham will keep the Jordan offense watching on the sideline. Bingham by 24 on Saturday.
Anonymous | 4:38 a.m. Oct. 28, 2009
hahaha brighton couldnt even make it to the playoffs. thats hilarious.
Draper Dude | 5:29 a.m. Oct. 28, 2009
I don't know if Jordan found a defense if they gave up 30 points (in bad weather...). Bingham is a lot smarter than Brighton, so don't get caught up in the moment. They won't make a lot of the same mistakes. On a positive note, that Robinson kid is spectacular! Skinny, but fast! Hope he plays somewhere.
Reality | 6:23 a.m. Oct. 28, 2009
I'm not a Bingham fan, infact, I can't stand the whole attitude of that program, but I know Jordan won't stand a chance against them.
Not A Bingham Fan | 6:45 a.m. Oct. 28, 2009
I am not a Bingham fan let me make that clear but I have seen both Jordan and Bingham play and Bingham is A LOT more physical then Jordan. Bingham will take state this year
@Anonymous 12:09 a.m. | 6:53 a.m. Oct. 28, 2009
It appears that Brighton fans making references to beating Bingham in the first round was their way of telling their team they thought they could get a victory against Jordan: Go Bengals, you can do it. Fans do that...think positive to give their team confidence and encouragement.

It could also be that Brighton posters were doing what the second poster at 12:40 a.m. ("don't overlook Jordan") implies.

However, to answer your query...I believe Brighton fans were doing what you are doing: doing some smack talking to rev their team up.

I hope that provides the explanation you requested.

Congrats to Jordan, it was great to see future Aggie Hart win two tough games back to back, something no one thought they would do!

Good luck in the playoffs Jordan!

What kind of attitude does Bingham have?
Outscore them | 8:00 a.m. Oct. 28, 2009
The only way Jordan will beat Bingham is if they match them touchdown for touchdown and some how pull it off in the end. I think Jordan will play well, but Bingham is just better.
Re: re: Reality | 8:11 a.m. Oct. 28, 2009
they are like Cottonwood, no one likes them. And it's not because they are good, it's because their fans, families, players (the Haka? seriously?) etc etc. people don't like Bingham for the same reasons that people don't like BYU. I'm not trying to get into an argument, I'm just saying...
Anonymous | 8:38 a.m. Oct. 28, 2009
There is a sense of entitlement at Bingham. As far as their top players are concerned the playoffs should be canceled and they should be handed the trophy because they are Bingham. Me personally I remember when they could not beat a team of kids in a schoolyard scrimage. I hope this years contests will bear interesting fruit but I would be fake if I did not admit that I have no problem with Bingham going home early. Bingham is good but they are not the greatest ever in Utah high school football. Talk to me when they have more than 10 state footbal titles in 20 years, 18+ seasons above .500, and 15 consecutive playoff showings. That is the Bingham attitude. The head coach has plenty of perspective however the fans and the parents are way out of touch. Personally I will be cheering for Alta but that is why we play the games.
plyxply | 8:56 a.m. Oct. 28, 2009
another great game by Hart and Hammond. I'd have to say they should be offensive co-mvp's in Region 4, and I'm an Alta guy. I don't think many people give them a chance at Bingham, and in reality it would be a major upset, but don't think it isn't possible.
Ex- beetdigger | 9:00 a.m. Oct. 28, 2009
Way to go Jordan, your in the playoffs. Now make the next step and lets get past Bingham. To win the offense has to execute like they have all year, and win the turnover battle by 2 or more. Just like 2 years back in Cody's senior year. Thats what killed us last year, tons of ints. Also dont underestimate binghams ability to pass, its easy to lock into that predictable run offense, but dont forget the pass, another thing that killed us last year.
Way to go jordan, just beleive and you can do it.
plyxply | 9:07 a.m. Oct. 28, 2009
I disagree with the comment about people not liking Cottonwood for the same reasons they don't like Bingham. People don't like Bingham because they usually end up getting whipped by the Miners, not because they have obnoxious fans. I'd say Bingham fans are the classiest winners out there. CW on the other hand has other issues they have to deal with. They play undisciplined football and talk an awful lot, as do their fans (or one or two of them anyway), and thus far haven't played as well as they'd expected to. People dislike CW because when they do lose to them CW acts like they've never won before.
Hart and Hammond | 9:17 a.m. Oct. 28, 2009
The way I read the story all Bingham has to do is break this connection and Bingham has got the game.
Jordan Fan | 9:24 a.m. Oct. 28, 2009
Wow Jordan! Beating a great team 2 times in a row is unreal. Defense, where have you been all year? You found the right time to step it up, that's for sure. Taylor Smith, thank you for saving the game. That was way too close for comfort. BRADEN HAMMOND, you are a freaking stud! Hart you are just amazing, enough said. All 11 games over 300 yards passing is unheard of. Jordan we need to be close to perfection to have any chance with Bingham. No bad penelties please. Special teams, keep your lanes!
Good luck Jordan!

To Brighton: You have nothing to be ashamed of. You have some serious talent on your team. You played your hearts out! Ricky Heimuli, WOW! No I know why everyone is scared of you. You are a MONSTER! Fast, fast and fast, for your size. Keep your heads up Brighton!
What did i say? | 9:27 a.m. Oct. 28, 2009
I told everyone on the previous jordan vs. brighton article that Taylor Smith is the best safety jordan has had in years...i retract that statement tho...Taylor Smith is the best safety in The State!!! He's a game changer!!! but one guy this article didnt mention was DUKE BABKA huge on 3rd downs!!!! he was the Defensive Player of the Game in my opinion!!!
sl trib | 9:44 a.m. Oct. 28, 2009
everyone on the salt lake tribune is saying that the Block in the back call at the end of the game was a bad call...and that the ref threw the flag late after the touchdown was scored in the 4th quarter...and i hate the tribune so i wont get a little accound thing there...but everyone on there if you posted on there here is my reply...i was at the game...on the jordan side...and you could not be more wrong...i saw the block in the back and the Jordan player go to the ground GREAT CALL REF!!! and the flag was thrown before the touchdown was even signled...so no there was no bad call!!! GREAT GAME JORDAN!!! GOOD LUCK AGAINST BINGHAM...YOU'LL NEED IT
re: plyxply | 9:45 a.m. Oct. 28, 2009
Good comments. I posed the question earlier to so what some people might really think. My kids have all gone through Bingham. As far as the school goes I have been extremely pleased with the school as a whole. I miss very few games both football and basketball. I just don't see the obnoxious fans or parents that people claim. They do a very good jog of supporting the teams. Sure its no fun to lose to the same team over and over again. I'm sure that Anonymous comments above indicate that he may be from Skyline. I'm sure it was the same thing back then with everyone hating Skyline. You may not like them but you should respect what they have done.
re: plyxply | 9:45 a.m. Oct. 28, 2009
I totally agree with your comparison of bingham & cottonwood. Not only are the fans classy but so are the players and coaches. When we (Jordan) lost to them in the second round of playoffs last year the miner players were so respectful to our team. Especially to the seniors that had played their final high school football game. I for one have alot of respect for Bingham coaches, players, and fans!
plyxply | 9:50 a.m. Oct. 28, 2009
Alta gave up 25 receptions to Hammond and still won, of course neither Hunt nor Morgan played in that game. If you keep them in front of you and don't let them get the big play you can manage their offense, but you won't stop it. Hart is too good at getting out of the pocket and hitting his receivers in the hands regardless of the route or the pressure on him.
If #50 for Jordan plays v Bingham like he did last night against Heimuli I think Jordan could make this a close game where anything could happen. If Bingham doesn't make mistakes and executes though, it's nearly impossible to beat them.
ex digger | 10:01 a.m. Oct. 28, 2009
Nice work fellaz!!! No one thinks you can beat bingham but so what nobody thought we could 2 yeaes ago when we beat them at their place. If we can do it this team should be able to do it also!!! Big time upset let's go diggers do work!!!! Ill be watching and having faith.
Don't overlook Bingham | 10:09 a.m. Oct. 28, 2009
All right let's start all the Jordan smack talk, about how you are going to go roll a rested and waiting Bingham team on their home field. Bring it!!!!!
re: plyxply | 10:26 a.m. Oct. 28, 2009
Great points, I agree that poster is obviously from Skyline, I also remember when Bingham couldn't win a game, but where has Skyline been these past years, not winning 10 championships, etc. etc. And didn't they get spanked 37-15 by Bingham in the playoffs last year? I also remember back in my day when Skyline would enter the playoffs, the team would shave their heads and think they were entitled to the championship too. I have been around my share of coaches and programs over the years and Bingham has two of the best coaches in Peck and Lambourne, who demand respect for other players, they don't allow any trash talk during the game, or cheap shots. they have now built a very respectable program and haters are bound to come out.
A Bingham Fan - part 1 | 10:29 a.m. Oct. 28, 2009
re: plxply @ 9:07pm - thanks for the kind words.

re: anonymous @ 8:38am - I completely disagree with your take of a sense of entitlement at Bingham on the part of either players, coaches or fans. Of course I am biased but here's my take -
Fan base is extremely supportive. It is apparent throughout Ute Conference as the area supports about 30 teams a year and the volunteer coaching effort alone required to support that is huge. It is apparent at the high school level by the game attendance at home and on the road. The base is educated. We know that Skyline program has a football history to which no other HS can compare. It may not be voiced but I believe we feel that is the year-in year-out level of consistency to which we aspire for our program. You will not catch adult Bingham fans on these boards making claims of "greatest ever" or "we will dominate". We are well aware that we have only one championship in this current run of successful teams and because of that we understand that it takes four great games against high-caliber opponents to win a state title.
Brighton Mom | 10:33 a.m. Oct. 28, 2009
Brighton did get robbed by very poor officiating. I was at the game and watched the refs make very bad calls and not call some very obvious ones like facemasking and off sides. Brighton had a conversion called back because of a call against Jordan and the touchdown called back because of a block in the back call due to a Brighton kid slipping on the wet field. Those refs ran off the field because they knew how poor of a job they really did. The Brighton football team has done a great job this year and deserves to be recognised for such a great season. Their great season has nothing to do with the coaching staff...those boys deserve all the credit.
Bingham going down!!! | 10:40 a.m. Oct. 28, 2009
Every digger fan is trying to be reeeaaalll nice. Not sure why, maybe because they do not want to spout off and then lose to Bingham.

Well.... I got news for you that do not follow both HS football. Jordan is for real. NO OTHER team in the state could beat Brighton 2 times in 4 days. Alta couldn't do it once. Hart is the man. Here is why they will win. The D line and backers are tough at Bingham, but the DBs can't defend the pass. Langi is only getting yards and TDs late in games and is totally getting shut out early by everyone. By the time the D wears out, Jordan will have a big lead. Too late...game over. 35-28 Jordan.
A Bingham Fan - Part 2 | 10:42 a.m. Oct. 28, 2009
Over the years we have watched our kids in tremendous games with Brighton, Jordan, Riverton, and quite clearly Alta. We have great respect for those programs, players, coaches and fans. We know many of their kids and our boys know their boys. I never hear my sons or any of the Bingham players disrespect the other teams or their players. We obviously are not as familiar with Utah County or Davis County programs (except for Viewmont) but we have every reason to expect they are similar.

We know our team is talented and capable of a state title but the fans, coaches and players are well aware that they must play to their full potential each game and even then it can be "any given Friday" when two great teams take the field.

Here's to all the teams in the playoffs! May each team bring their best - game in and game out.

Thanks to Bingham coaching staffs and all the players for another great season of football regardless of the outcome.

Everyone - enjoy the journey - it's the best time of the year!
To plyxply | 10:45 a.m. Oct. 28, 2009
Hammond had 20 receptions against Alta. Its a new state record. Hammond beat the old record by 3 receptions.
I still agree with your analysis. #50 (Bill Vavau) is a stud.
Correct Call | 11:02 a.m. Oct. 28, 2009
I too was at the game last night and was standing in the corner of the endzone up above the field. It was a block in the back, the back judge(ref) and the line judge(ref) both threw their flags on the play right when it happened. It wasn't after the touchdown(from my vantage point he didn't get into the endzone either). So you are right the poster's on the trib are full of it, making excuses. Both teams played a good game.
Go ALTA!!!!
An Ex-Bengal | 11:19 a.m. Oct. 28, 2009
wow.... this year Brighton actually got more wins than the past two years combined and are not going to playoffs like they did last year.... sad, I guess... Anyway, that means I personally will be cheering for Alta... any other bengals wanna do that with me?
plyxply | 11:34 a.m. Oct. 28, 2009
for some reason I'd remembered 25, maybe it's because it seemed like 30 during the game.
Vavau got tired towards the end of the game last night and will have to figure out a way to stay fresh enough to make plays at the end against Bingham, plus he'll be playing against studs on both sides of the ball so this will be a serious test for him. I watched him push Heimuli off the line 5 straight plays and he was a big reason Jordan won the game. He forced them into throwing situations when they would've rather run the ball all night.
football fan | 11:43 a.m. Oct. 28, 2009
I predicted Jordan having to much offense for Brighton to handle. Brighton is a very good team and the game was great! It could have gone either way! As far as Jordan v.s. Bingham - Bingham has a big edge, but Jordan has a big time passing attack and nothing to lose! It should be fun fun to watch!!!
Jordan Fan to Brighton Mom | 11:46 a.m. Oct. 28, 2009
The two point conversion can't be called back if it isn't converted in the first place. It was an incomplete pass with a defensive pass interference call that actually gave Brighton a second chance on the two point conversion. You weren't robbed of anything.

There were missed calls on both sides of the ball. The block in the back was about as far from the Brighton fans as it could be, but obviously your vantage point was better than the two refs on the field that threw the flags.

Finally I don't recall any refs sticking around to chat it up after any game. Everyone's perception is their own reality. I definitely saw the game from a different perspective.
re: Bingham going down!!! | 11:48 a.m. Oct. 28, 2009
You got it mostly right, Bingham does struggle against spread O teams. Their strength is shutting down the run. But you are assuming that Jordan's QB is going to stand back there all day and pick his spots, I don't think so. He is going to be having a long day with the pressure the D-line and LB's bring at Bingham. Just ask Alta's QB. Jordan goes down!!! 31-17. You also said a very important thing there, Jordan has beat Brighton twice in 4 DAYS. Now you play Bingham in 2 DAYS. Ouch. Bingham hasn't played since last friday. And the starters were resting in the 4 quarter of that game. Can't wait for the game though.
Anonymous | 11:49 a.m. Oct. 28, 2009
Ive heard a few times that the refs "ran off the field after the game."
First of all, they "run" off after every game.
Second, it was freezing out there!!
I would of sprinted off the field.
Third, speaking of bad or non-calls; Hammond kept getting hit/bumped 15 yards down field by the lb's and db's from Brighton. Not one call against Brighton on this the entire game. These hits/bumps were not happening while Hammond was blocking down field but while he was trying to run routes.
So Brighton fans, save the whining.
Re: Brighton Mom | 11:55 a.m. Oct. 28, 2009
Keep crying and making excuses. A block in the back because of a wet field. Give me a break.
Hey Now... | 11:58 a.m. Oct. 28, 2009
Whoa folks. We play the games to see who is the best as Anon @ 8:38 points out. Also look at the programs of East, Millard, Timpview, Delta, and I believe Morgan as an example of total historical excellence similar to Skyline. This is where Bingham has yet to attain. The media seems to want to erase 90 years of Bingham history and that can not be done if we are going to be honest here. I have no beef with Bingham or their coaches. Their coaches are excellent. The fans are who they are and will behave the way they do. Bingham fan do not complain that you are not universally loved or respected when you act contrary to actual reality. For myself I will be cheering for Alta and Skyline as I always have over the years. I will also be cheering against Bingham, Hunter, and Cottonwood. The best part of the tourney is that there are NO sub .500 teams in it and that suits me just fine.

Best of luck to all the kids who will play. I may not cheer for your school but I do hope safe play and sportsmanship will win out.
Hey Brighton Mom | 12:00 p.m. Oct. 28, 2009
I hope you are not teaching your son and his friends that if something did not go the way they wanted that they don't take resposibility and just stomp their feet and complain about someone else's actions instead of their own. In this case, the officials did not lose this game, the coaches and players did.
Facemask penalties are when there is a grab or twist of the facemask, chinstrap, or opening of the helmet. Just because a player's helmet moves awkwardly from a hit, or any part of the body brushes against a facemask does not warrant a penalty.
As for the block in the back, if there was physical contact made in the back of the defensive player that impeded the ability of that player to make a play, then it is a penalty. It doesn't matter that the field is wet.
And officials always run off the field after every Varsity game.
Know what you are complaining about before you complain...it might make you realize something.
JFAN | 12:14 p.m. Oct. 28, 2009
Ha! Brighton fan in your face! you said we couldnt beat you but we beat you how does it feel to miss the playoffs, sit at home and watch Jordan go all the way to state! YES!
Block in the back | 12:37 p.m. Oct. 28, 2009
If any of you want to question the block in the back penalty you need to watch KSL channel 5 sports coverage. It was on the 10 news last night. They were front and center for this play and it was an OBVIOUS block in the back. The brighton player DID NOT slip at all! Great call by the official. It's impossible to argue with up close film of the play.(in fact the camera couln't have been in a better spot or angle for this play).
re: Block in the back | 1:13 p.m. Oct. 28, 2009
just watched the highlights on ksl.com and you are definitely right that was CLEARLY A BLOCK IN THE BACK i saw it at the game but it was clearly visible on this replay!!! austin day gets not only blocked in the back...he gets tackled completely from behind great call ref!!!
East Mom | 1:27 p.m. Oct. 28, 2009
Congrats to Jordan. It's nice to see integrity win over those that do what they can to get the competitive edge. I know that three starters for Brighton all played soph ball at East. All three were kicked out for an ugly hazing incident. I have a hard time comprehending why a coach would allow those three to play for his program. I have heard the argument about a second chance, but participating in athletics is a privilege. I feel bad for the players at Brighton who have had their values skewed because of this experience.

Good luck to Jordan and all other programs of integrity.

“Bingham going down!!! | 10:40 a.m. Oct. 28, 2009
Langi is only getting yards and TDs late in games and is totally getting shut out early by everyone.”
Bimgham’s scoring summaries on this web site don’t agree with your claim.
Here’s a list of Harvey Langi TDs.
Alta: Pass for 73 yards, second quarter.
Trinity: Pass for 15, fourth.
American Fork: Run for 10, third.
Cottonwood: Runs for 1, first & 18, third.
Kearns: Runs for 69, 50 & 15, first.
Copper Hills: Runs for 53 & 9, second.
West Jordan: Runs for 12 & 22, first & pass for 62, third.
Riverton: Runs for 2 & 40, fourth.
Taylorsville: Run for 8, third.
Harvey Langi has rushed for 811 yards this year, with 14 TDs. 11 rushing and 3 passing.
His longest TD is a 69-yard run.
He’s scored 5 in the first quarter, 3 in the second, 4 in the third and 3 in the fourth.
That’s being “shut out early”?
Bingham has 5 other players with rushing TDs & 8 with TD passes.
Jordan’s best rusher is Hart, with 5 rushing TD’s and 518 yards. His longest is 13 against Sky View.

To "A Bingham Fan" - I agree with you that your program is a class act. In the few times that my son has played against Bingham in various sports, including football, he always comes home and states that he enjoys playing against your boys because they are always good sports. There is never a bunch of trash talk, and they can congradulate each other after the game with no hard feelings. See you Saturday.
Jordan Parent | 2:00 p.m. Oct. 28, 2009
Regarding the Bingham program: My son plays for Jordan - has for 2 years and is an intregal part of the team. Last year, when we ended our season at Bingham, he could not say enough about the class of the Bingham players and coaches. They were very complimentary to my son and have always been good sports and great competitors. To Bingham - you run a model program. You're never on here spouting off. I have noticed that before now. Keep doing what you're doing. We'd love to beat and are coming at you on Saturday, but for those of you going off about Bingham, you don't know what you're talking about.
