The real issue here is that there are only TWO animal control officers for all of Ogden. Why is there not more funding for animal control when they clearly have the need. The birds were kept in cat cages until they could be destroyed?? That doesn't sound humane or efficient. Clearly we have a problem here.

So animal services is overwhelmed because chicken comprize one tenth of one percent of their yearly complaints.
Chicken are less of a health concern or pest concern than dogs or cats. I grew up in the city and we all had chickens. Even President Monson tlaked about having chickens when he was a young bishop in downtown SLC.
At present I live in a newer neighborhood, upper middle class homes and over 25% of our neighborhood has chickens. There are not any problems except we have to be careful the dogs in the neighborhood don't kill them.
Laws that only allow hens work. If the law allows roosters then if the rooster makes too much noise the nuisnace laws kick in. I know of a couple of people that lock their roosters up at night in their garage to muffle their noise. I keep roosters also but no one complains since they make less noise than the barking dogs at night.
Good luck Ogden residents on getting a sensable chicken ordenence.

The story says animal services is overwhelmed because of the total number of complaints, not just because of chickens. But if more residents have chickens and more complaints arise, they will be even more overwhelmed.
