Mills has it right, vote the guy in Herriman.
For Mills | 9:25 a.m. Oct. 28, 2009
Crane has turned into a career politician. He has been in long enough and doesn't like that Herriman is getting so large of a population. He even said at one point he didn't want "us" there. Most people don't know he cost the tax payers $20,000 because he didn't want traffic diverted to the street his house is on during one of the Herriman city activities.

We need more people like Mills at all levels of government. Less government involvement, less taxes, and more plain language instead of hiding behind legalese.

How can you vote for Mills a Vice President of an insurance company. Haven't we had enough of our money lost on account of insurance and investment companies.

Vote them out
mayor & manager? | 11:53 a.m. Oct. 28, 2009
That seems like a conflict of interest to have one person be Mayor and City Manager.

Mills seems like he has a good head on his shoulders, and appears to have the people's interests in mind. Government serves the people.
To: Jeff S | 11:55 a.m. Oct. 28, 2009
You're going to blame your insurance losses on one vice president of one insurance company? Did you even look at his company before throwing out that red-herring?

When did Karl Rove bother with mayoral races, definitely his mode of operation.

Mick Shannon is a good man, and has incredible experience and integrity. That flier that went around was so stupid, and in fact libelous. Herriman has been run by the long-standing "Royal Families" in the area, and change is needed.
MadMax | 1:02 p.m. Oct. 28, 2009
Just because office holders have had a long tenure does not make them bad. Much good has been acomplished during the incumbents tenure in Herriman. In 10 years the city has gone for nothing to over 20,000 residents. There are many problems in standing up a new city and finding employees is one. When a city is small many workers will be related as a matter of course. There are other places where the job of city manager and mayor are shared by the same person.

I encourage voters in Herriman to look at the record of the incumbents - what have they done in office? Has it been good? Look at the claims of the challengers - how will they make good on those claims? Are there other elements in play in these local elections? The bottom line is who is better equipped to lead Herriman into the next level of growth and into the next level of Utah cities? The answer to both those questions involves experience at and with city government. Utah has had enough of voting based on teh magic "R' behind a candidates name. Vote for the person please.

Josh Mills is an incredible candidate and Mayor Crane is out of touch. Vote Mills.
re; Mad max | 1:16 p.m. Oct. 28, 2009
So are you admitting that Mayor Crane is a Democrat, as I hav thought for many, many years?
For Experience! | 1:53 p.m. Oct. 28, 2009
Here are a few questions to ask ALL candidates running for office:

-How many city council meetings have you attended? Josh Mills admitted he hardly ever attends. Why would we want someone who runs for office and doesn't even bother to show up for meetings now?

-What would you cut? That whole Herriman contract thing made me mad! They want to cut our parks? Exactly where do they think they're getting the money? From a money tree? I LIKE OUR PARKS and I want the grass mowed!! That's why I moved here!

-How are you going to help get businesses here? Do you actually know builders and developers? Obviously if Mayor Crane can get the rec center built here, he knows the right people.

I hope people do some checking on these supposed "facts"!!!

Municipal elections are non-partisan, but I can't help but chime in here...

What is it that you think makes Mayor Crane - a registered Republican - a democrat?

Is it his family values, sponsoring parks and arts?

Is it his fiscal conservatism, paying off the Butterfield Park and City Hall bond 16 & 18 years early?

Is it how he upholds personal property rights, allowing developers to build on the land they own in a responsible manner?

Maybe it's his commitment to public safety, and why he has the endorsements of both police and fire.

Just askin...
re: Mad Max | 2:03 p.m. Oct. 28, 2009
Max, you are Mad :). Can you name one other town where the Mayor has appointed himself City Manager? And any town that routinely awards contracts to relatives of City Council members? When these things happen, then the "I" next to their name becomes a liability.
re;Experience | 2:12 p.m. Oct. 28, 2009
Are you kidding? surely you jest. The fitness center idea is the biggest waste of tax payer dollars ever contrived by governments. Mayor Craine did not need to know anyone, all he had to do was beg for higher taxes so that we can fund this cash guzzleing idea. Fitness centers do not bring in revenue for cities or counties, they take it.

For that reason alone I am voting against Mayor Craine.
Mayor Crane | 2:14 p.m. Oct. 28, 2009
The Mayor of Herriman has ran one of the most ethically challenged city governments in Utah. I am sick of being "Eagle Mountain light!" We need a change, and we need to vote Crane and Walker out.
No Cuts to Parks | 2:18 p.m. Oct. 28, 2009
No one is talking about cutting parks. That fee on your water bill for parks is fairly new. The lawns at your parks were being mowed long before the mayor and city council added a fee on your water bill for it, and then gave themselves a sizable raise with the proceeds. The candidates who signed that contract are all very bright people, and you can safely assume they've done their homework and know how they will make it work.

Better yet, you should VERY concerned at the method that has been implemented by the current city leadership for raising such funds, not once, but TWICE now...disguising tax increases as fees on your water bill, and implementing them without due process.

I would be interested to find out who put the DNews on to this article. I feel sorry for the incumbants in this case. After 10 years anyone will have a couple of gripes about anyone.
The article hints that the incumbants have been in office too long, that the Mayor possibly has too much power, and that they are looking out for their own family to the point of breaking rules. Uotside of the DUI situation all that is said about the contenders is that they want to lower taxes, undo things that the incumbants have done, etc.
I don't think that the new blood would be able to deal with Herrimans problems any better. Everything they say is just what people like to hear so they can get elected and get that $95,000 a year pay check.
I'm not saying that I think the old guard should stay, but I felt that the article was biased and slanted in favor of the challengers.
For Experience! | 2:39 p.m. Oct. 28, 2009
Obviously the mayor does NOT appoint himself city manager. The city council does. And to preempt your expected argument that he is a member of the city council, may I remind you it takes a majority of the city council?

Re: Rec Center: We're already subsidizing fitness centers through ZAP funds all over the county, why not have one here? Everyone I talked to is THRILLED to be getting one here. Fitness centers and a town square concept in general can bring in revenue to cities --- what do you see near the Marv Jensen and South Jordan city halls/library complex? Within a block or two lots of restaurants, craft stores, etc. Riverton people are going to come here to use the facility (just like I drive my scouts to Marv Jensen) then stop at the stores that will be located nearby. You need a few big anchors - civic or commercial - and now they're committed other businesses will come.

Herriman Greg | 2:45 p.m. Oct. 28, 2009
Time for Crane to find another job.
Anonymous | 4:03 p.m. Oct. 28, 2009
The park fee is more than 5 years old. Ask those very bright people where they plan to come up with $60 a year x around 5,000 houses = $300,000. It's nice to say it's in the general fund - what would those bright people cut out of the general fund? Or would they raise taxes? The council raises in Aug. 06 had nothing to do with the parks raise - years apart.

Crane for Mayor. YouTube - then find "Herriman Meet the Candidates" for a very enlightening video about who wants to be our mayor and in the city government. Wow - I was glad I watched it before the vote this Tues.
herriman kdog | 7:38 p.m. Oct. 29, 2009
so what business are coming? everything we need in herriman is at our border. walmart, homedepot, the district. all the places the riverton folks will stop at after visiting our rec center. crane now talks about economic development but he wasn't concerned about it when it was happening all around us. im sure riverton and s. jordan city goverments are still laughing at herrimans stupidity. i wish rivetti was still in. he was the most impressive at the meet the canidates.
For Experience! | 11:23 p.m. Oct. 29, 2009
Mt. View Corridor will provide many opportunities; there was no "stupidity," big box businesses want to settle off a major thoroughfare. Herriman didn't have the ideal Bangerter locations. However, Mt. View Corridor gives us miles of frontage and the annexed land gives us plenty of acreage for big box stores. Obviously as joe-average citizen, I don't have any idea what's coming but it makes sense that businesses like Cafe Rio, McDonalds, Jamba Juice, that would do well around the Rec Center aren't going to exclude themselves from Herriman simply because they're in Riverton or at the District.
