When the Jazz | 10:56 p.m. Oct. 27, 2009
Beat SA on the road then we will know they are ready to make a run.

I still think they are weak on defense and outside shooting. They are better on rebounding and the 2 PG offense makes them a much better team.

That assumes that Maynor is ready to play in the NBA. That may take all year but his development is crucial. The development of Koufos/Fez (size and defense) is also crucial. The exterior defense goes a long ways to improving the overall defense. CJ and Mathews or a trade may make the difference.

a little premature for an article like this. it was only a week ago, we had all gloom and doom Jazz injury articles spelling a do over of last year's implosion.
Say it again, when | 11:31 p.m. Oct. 27, 2009
the Jazz beat SA on the road twice, we will know the threat is real.....I want to see it to believe it. But also, what about the Lakers!!!!!!!! N

Brewzer

When would be a good time for a season preview article?
Defense & Road Wins? | 12:31 a.m. Oct. 28, 2009
The Jazz should be a little better barring devastating injuries again. However, first we need to start winning on the road and playing some better defense before we can talk about hanging with the top of the league.

Go Jazz!
THEeyepatch | 12:40 a.m. Oct. 28, 2009
That all good if the Jazz are playing at home, but the real question is.......... can they win on the road? The achilles heel of the Jazz has been the road the past couple of seasons.
As long as | 7:31 a.m. Oct. 28, 2009
Boozer has Armani in his wardrobe he'll be wearing it on the sidelines at some point this year and that will ruin chemistry for yet another season. I mean, how long can a guy go without getting a hangnail???
C Williams | 8:29 a.m. Oct. 28, 2009
I just received an email as a season tickets holder, and the Jazz are trying to force me into managing my ticket account through FLASH SEATS?!?!...It supposedly will give ME MORE CONTROL over my tickets, but it appears to me that it will actually give LHM & UTAH JAZZ MORE CONTROL over my tickets...thanks to the jazz organization for screwing me one more way. And thanks also for no longer showing any Jazz games on KJZZ. NO FREE GAMES FOR YOU!!!
slicker | 8:30 a.m. Oct. 28, 2009
Boozer will not get hurt this year he is playing for a big contract so he will bring his A game. Money is a huge motivator for him so he will play through injuries, its too bad that winning isn't a motivator for him
Insanity | 8:33 a.m. Oct. 28, 2009
The definition of insanity: Doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result each time.

Let's see: In 2007, this group of players finished 8th in the west. In 2008, the same group of players finished 8th in the west. In 2009, the same group of player will finish.....first? Hmmmm, what's wrong with this picture?

Unless Boozer learned to play great defense in the offseason (how likely is that?), the Jazz picked up a real center and a real 2-guard that nobody has found out about, expect the Jazz to finish....about 8th in the west.
Same Roster | 8:38 a.m. Oct. 28, 2009
The Jazz don't have a better roster than they had the last three seasons. It's unreasonable to expect that any of the present players will radically improve their game; most are probably on the downside of their careers.

2 things:

Winning the division is a must, if you win the division your looking at a 6 at absolute worst, and probably a 3 seed.

Second thing, why the heck is there talk about Maynor being the backup point guard? People have the shortest memory when it comes to Ronnie Price, if he is the backup last year we pick up 2-3 more wins and get out of that 8 hole. He is a stud.
Couldn't agree more | 9:53 a.m. Oct. 28, 2009
with Anonymous at 9:04...

Price has been the most horribly underused player on this team for the past 3 years. Sloan has played jason hart and brevin knight ahead of him and they downright sucked! And now he's going to play Maynor first...? The rookie looks good but I think Price has more than earned the chance for some decent consistent minutes this season.

Ahhhhhh

For your information.... just in case you didn't know, for whatever reason you decided to just blabber out insane unsupportable thoughts

In 2007 the Utah Jazz went to the Western Conference Finals and they definitely were not 8th place

In 2008 Utah lost in the second round of the playoffs they were not 8th place then either

They were however 8th place in 2009 which for some reason you make it seem as if it hasn't passed already.

For a little tip.. you don't count the starting of the year for the actual place in standings for that season it would be like saying the Laker's won the 2008 NBA Finals.

But your not off the hook cause even if you did get your years messed up the Jazz did not finish 8th place two years in a row.
ME! | 10:04 a.m. Oct. 28, 2009
I love the picture. It says it all. Okur, Kirilenko, and Brewer all turnd toward D-Will who has his back turned to an oblivious Carlos Boozer. Priceless.
@Insanity | 10:28 a.m. Oct. 28, 2009
Last season was the first in 3 years that the Jazz didn't win the division.
Three words | 10:42 a.m. Oct. 28, 2009
No more Boozer
I predict.... | 10:47 a.m. Oct. 28, 2009
Division champions and Conference finalists, record - 58 & 24.
Miles | 11:37 a.m. Oct. 28, 2009
Tonight should go a long ways to telling the story of the offseason. We open on the road and against a team that puts up a lot of points. So we will find out tonight if defense if really a priority or just lip service. Can we win on the road against a opponent who is perceived by the media as a better team. I withhold my judgement until after the game.

The Jazz could win | 12:35 p.m. Oct. 28, 2009
but they are going to have to play defense. DEN will pack the paint and dare Utah to shoot. Sloan will have to adjust. Will he? How will he? Can DWill carry the Jazz by replacing Korver and can Maynor run the PG with DWill at 2? Will Sloan try Mathews? Can a rookie come thru?

Price is hurt and even when healthy he is good sometimes. When he is not shooting well it is better that he not play.

Will Fez and Koufos box out Birdman? The 2nd team rebounds may make a big difference.
Cowboy Joe | 12:42 p.m. Oct. 28, 2009
For pete sake. THE TWO PG OFFENSE DOESN'T WORK. WHO REMEMBERS HOW GREAT THE DEFENSE OF DWILL AND FISHER. I REMEMBER SEEING 50PTS by most opposing two guards.

Jazz lose tonight, but win against the clips on friday.
Bones | 12:52 p.m. Oct. 28, 2009
RE: Miles

I agree with you. If the Jazz can pull out a win tonight I will feel much better about this season. If they don't Ill still be optimistic, but definitely worried that were just going to repeat last year.
We still have CJ and Korver out and I think either one can make a difference for this team if they have significant improvments over last year. We have reason to believe that both of them could, if not then we will need to find a trade for boozer that will give us a wing that can shoot.
Ignorance all around | 1:59 p.m. Oct. 28, 2009
Thankfully several posters have corrected some of you nitwits?

"Finishing 8th multiple years in a row"? What planet?

"Pack the paint..Sloan will have to adjust"? Uh no, the players have to be able to make outside shots...Sloan can't "adjust" and suddenly make AK a better 3 pt shooter. Sloan has limited options due to the ouside shooting incompetence of his players.

Deron shot his career best 3 pt % when he played a bunch of 2 guard. I am not saying that it will be a good thing to do but depending on matchups it could be beneficial to have 2 PG's on the floor to handle and push the ball for early offense not to mention Deron is a better shooter with his feet set vs. when he has to shoot a 3 off the dribble and bail the play out before the shot clock goes off.

re: Miles

One game is going to go a long ways to "telling the story of the season"? We are missing multiple outside threats tonight due to injury. This was a possible break out year for Miles if he actually takes a step. Unknown.

Whole season tonight? Nah.
Fat Cat | 2:11 p.m. Oct. 28, 2009
The Jazz won't win tonight. C'mon get rid of Sloan!
vegas jazz fan | 2:27 p.m. Oct. 28, 2009
it all depends an korver's health and weather the ronnies and miles hit there shots. also we need to be more agressive on offense at the PF spot. remember malone was so good because he wore people down at both ends of the floor. we have two great pf's to ware the other team down with. those guys need to stay conditioned and pound the ball in the other teams face. williams also needs to get the ball to them in rediculously open spots, which he can do. go jazz. jazz win by 10 tonight. there always ready for the opener and other teams are not. good bet jazz + 7

@Anonymous | 9:04 a.m.

Division winners are guaranteed a top 4 seed no matter what their record. Thats why in the 2008 playoffs we were the 4th seed playing the 5th seed ,Houston, but didnt have home court advantage. Houston had a better record (or owned the tiebreaker i dont remember)but since we had the division title we had the 4th seed over them.
Miles | 4:35 p.m. Oct. 28, 2009
@Ignorance all around: I said, "Tonight should go a long ways to telling the story of the offseason". You said, "One game is going to go a long ways to "telling the story of the season". Big difference in what i wrote and what you wrote.

My point was that is the boys worked on defense in the offseason, then it should show up in the game tonight.

Your point was.....Not too sure--what was your point?
King Black @ Miles & Ignorance | 5:09 p.m. Oct. 28, 2009
Well....

I just think that Mr. Ignorance was doing just what his name suggest he does being ignorant in any matter possible, as you can tell he was trying to be sarcastic by downgrading your opinion but failed to fully comprehend what exactly it was that you were trying to say.

I guess I can say I finally agree with you on something, tonight we can all see how good the off season preparation for better D actually is.
So FAR | 9:40 p.m. Oct. 28, 2009
Okur looks like he has taken leadership of the team. Brewer is playing well. AK is doing well. Millsap and Boozer stink. Nene is abusing them.
At the half | 9:52 p.m. Oct. 28, 2009
The Jazz are getting abused down the middle. Okur, DWill, Brewer, and to some extent AK look pretty good. The rest of the team is not playing.

Boozer is an offensive and defensive liability. I like Boozer. I do not care what he says. I do care how he plays and Sloan would be better off with Koufos out there.

Utah has no one to stop Nene. Melo is using them also. They have done a good job of blocking out Birdman.

DWill can and should post up Lawson. Korver and to some extent CJ would have been helpful in this game.
When Okur went out | 9:58 p.m. Oct. 28, 2009
Fez went 2 for 2 with no fouls. Good thing Collins is in PHO.
Salt Lake resident | 11:00 p.m. Oct. 28, 2009
uh oh.. looks like the jazz are gonna lose! I dislike sloan!
This stinks | 11:09 p.m. Oct. 28, 2009
half of the team plays. The PF position should have stayed in Utah. Maynor is a defensive liability. I am not a Price fan but he played pretty well.

The Jazz are slow and getting cut up on the inside. They are not blocking out.

Fez has played well. Boozer and Millsap should give Utah a refund. Millsap is a little better.

Don't talk to me about keeping this mess together. You can take your mediocre continuity and feed it someone one else.
