gloom and doom Jazz injury articles spelling a do over of last year's
implosion.

The Jazz should be a little better barring devastating injuries again. However,
first we need to start winning on the road and playing some better defense
before we can talk about hanging with the top of the league.

That all good if the Jazz are playing at home, but the real question
is.......... can they win on the road? The achilles heel of the Jazz has been
the road the past couple of seasons.

Boozer has Armani in his wardrobe he'll be wearing it on the sidelines at
some point this year and that will ruin chemistry for yet another season. I

I just received an email as a season tickets holder, and the Jazz are trying to
force me into managing my ticket account through FLASH SEATS?!?!...It supposedly
will give ME MORE CONTROL over my tickets, but it appears to me that it will
actually give LHM & UTAH JAZZ MORE CONTROL over my tickets...thanks to the
jazz organization for screwing me one more way. And thanks also for no longer
showing any Jazz games on KJZZ. NO FREE GAMES FOR YOU!!!

Boozer will not get hurt this year he is playing for a big contract so he will
bring his A game. Money is a huge motivator for him so he will play through
injuries, its too bad that winning isn't a motivator for him

The definition of insanity: Doing the same thing over and over and expecting a
different result each time.
Let's see: In 2007, this group of players finished 8th in the west. In 2008, the same group of players finished 8th in the west. In 2009, the same group of player will finish.....first? Hmmmm, what's wrong with this picture?
Unless Boozer learned to play great defense in the offseason (how likely is that?), the Jazz picked up a real center and a real 2-guard that nobody has found out about, expect the Jazz to finish....about 8th in the west.

The Jazz don't have a better roster than they had the last three seasons.
It's unreasonable to expect that any of the present players will radically
improve their game; most are probably on the downside of their careers.

2 things:
Winning the division is a must, if you win the division your looking at a 6 at absolute worst, and probably a 3 seed.
Second thing, why the heck is there talk about Maynor being the backup point guard? People have the shortest memory when it comes to Ronnie Price, if he is the backup last year we pick up 2-3 more wins and get out of that 8 hole. He is a stud.

Price has been the most horribly underused player on this team for the past 3 years. Sloan has played jason hart and brevin knight ahead of him and they downright sucked! And now he's going to play Maynor first...? The rookie looks good but I think Price has more than earned the chance for some decent consistent minutes this season.

In 2007 the Utah Jazz went to the Western Conference Finals and they definitely were not 8th place
In 2008 Utah lost in the second round of the playoffs they were not 8th place then either
They were however 8th place in 2009 which for some reason you make it seem as if it hasn't passed already.
For a little tip.. you don't count the starting of the year for the actual place in standings for that season it would be like saying the Laker's won the 2008 NBA Finals.

Tonight should go a long ways to telling the story of the offseason. We open on
the road and against a team that puts up a lot of points. So we will find out
tonight if defense if really a priority or just lip service. Can we win on the
road against a opponent who is perceived by the media as a better team. I
withhold my judgement until after the game.

Price is hurt and even when healthy he is good sometimes. When he is not shooting well it is better that he not play.

I agree with you. If the Jazz can pull out a win tonight I will feel much better about this season. If they don't Ill still be optimistic, but definitely worried that were just going to repeat last year.
We still have CJ and Korver out and I think either one can make a difference for this team if they have significant improvments over last year. We have reason to believe that both of them could, if not then we will need to find a trade for boozer that will give us a wing that can shoot.

"Pack the paint..Sloan will have to adjust"? Uh no, the players have to be able to make outside shots...Sloan can't "adjust" and suddenly make AK a better 3 pt shooter. Sloan has limited options due to the ouside shooting incompetence of his players.
Deron shot his career best 3 pt % when he played a bunch of 2 guard. I am not saying that it will be a good thing to do but depending on matchups it could be beneficial to have 2 PG's on the floor to handle and push the ball for early offense not to mention Deron is a better shooter with his feet set vs. when he has to shoot a 3 off the dribble and bail the play out before the shot clock goes off.

it all depends an korver's health and weather the ronnies and miles hit
there shots. also we need to be more agressive on offense at the PF spot.
remember malone was so good because he wore people down at both ends of the
floor. we have two great pf's to ware the other team down with. those guys
need to stay conditioned and pound the ball in the other teams face. williams
also needs to get the ball to them in rediculously open spots, which he can do.
go jazz. jazz win by 10 tonight. there always ready for the opener and other
teams are not. good bet jazz + 7

Division winners are guaranteed a top 4 seed no matter what their record. Thats why in the 2008 playoffs we were the 4th seed playing the 5th seed ,Houston, but didnt have home court advantage. Houston had a better record (or owned the tiebreaker i dont remember)but since we had the division title we had the 4th seed over them.

I still think they are weak on defense and outside shooting. They are better on rebounding and the 2 PG offense makes them a much better team.
That assumes that Maynor is ready to play in the NBA. That may take all year but his development is crucial. The development of Koufos/Fez (size and defense) is also crucial. The exterior defense goes a long ways to improving the overall defense. CJ and Mathews or a trade may make the difference.
