Locke will not last.....
I loved it when locke came back to sports radio in the SLC. I loved Hot Rod! I think Locke will be a great replacement for Hots! I look forward to listening to Locke bring Jazz games to life in his own unique style.
David Locke is the worst decision the jazz have ever made. Granted that it would be hard for anyone to replace hot rod, but that would be like me replacing jerry sloan when he is done. Locke does not have the voice, experience, or personality to pull it off. Especially in this market, his arrogance and egomaniac nature rubs people the wrong way.
Jazz management, if you care about your fans at all get rid of this guy.
The Jazz had to save some dough somewhere with their sky-high payroll. This guy isn't even the best announcer employed by the Miller Group, that would be Steve Klouke, who would have been a much better choice. I listened to a preseason game Locke did last week and couldn't follow what was going on with the game. Two words - Bad hire!
I'm a long-time listener to David's Locked-On Sports show in the afternoons on 1320 KFAN. He is a fantastic radio voice, and is awesome to listen to. It's great he finally got his dream job. He'll do a fantastic job for the Jazz. It's a little weird not being Hot Rod, but that'll go away within a couple weeks. David Locke is a great fit for this job.
I was excited when locke first started doing radio again in utah, but I've stopped listening. Kfan goes too over the top with the promoting of the miller companies and it makes me change the station. I tried listening to one of the jazz broadcasts and my honest opinion is just not very good.
I wonder what some of Hot Rod's early games sounded like... back before he even got to Utah.
Locke works hard, prepares hard and does a great job as a daily radio host. I can't stand his play-by-play. He is abrasive but his hard work overcomes that on a daily show but now that show and Jazz game broadcasts will suffer. Sorry, but it is true.
I am afraid that there are just too many people out there who have been put off by the arrogance of this guy on talk radio. Not sure that being the big mouth who is always right and everyone in the world is wrong will go over well as a play by play man. This is a different ballgame. The team is the centerpoint not the announcer. I think that Lockheim (his real name) might be wrapped up too much in himself to be able to make that change.
I agree with a previous post that the Jazz are trying to save money and unfortunately this guy with the huge "I can do no wrong" ego was the best they could come up with. It will take time to replace hot rod and most likely at least one change in the radio guy. I would have promoted Steve from baseball over this clown in a heartbeat.
Locke will do much better than Hot Rod. HR should have hung it up 10 years ago. Why people liked the arrogant announcer is beside me. Locke will do a better job than HR and might even buy Jerry dinner.
David Locke doesn't have the voice for this type of position. Every radio play by play has some type of excitement in their voice. Locke is bland!
I can't believe I am saying this, but I'd rather hear Greg Wrubel call Jazz games than Locke. They will need to find someone better to call the games. Lockes calls alone would be motivation to purchase cable and Fox Sports Utah or the NBA Fullcourt Pass.
He's worked hard. I couldn't stand him years ago, but he went away, grew up and he's done nicely on the radio.
I will stay with Ron Boone on TV. Locke is another Looser, just like Boozer!
I have one piece of advice for David Locke. Just call the game. When I listened to a pre-season game on the radio, too often he would start talking about something other than what was happening on the court, and did it while the play was still going on. It might be difficult to separate the sports news guy from the play by play guy, but it needs to happen. I wish him well.
Please, PLEASE, don't let Ron Boone on the air with him!!!!
I have never heard Lock do a radio broadcast, so I don't know if he is any good or not. I know that I am in the minority but I always found Hot Rod to be annoying as an announcer and I am glad he is gone.
I cannot even bring myself to listen to Jazz on the radio now.
I just hope I can be in front of a TV for the games. Because if I'm traveling in a car I don't think I could stand to listen to Locke.
The voice is wrong and the attitude is wrong.
..Let's get Buddy Hackett to call the Cougar's basketball,
Rosie O'Donnell to do the color on their football, Carrot Top to handle play-by-play for the Utes, and that fat guy from the last "Seinfeld" episode to sit next to David James on KJZZ for commentary on NBA halftime reports.

Not a big fan of David Locke, never cared for Hot Rod either. Doesn't matter much to me.
Not sure what you guys are talking about when you say Locke has a great radio voice. I stopped listening to KFAN because of his awful voice. Have you listened to any of the pre-season games. He's terrible. I was in disbelief when they announced him as Hot Rod's replacement. The worst choice possible. I agree, that he will not last. Why didn't they just do a simulcast with Bolerjack.
