Cummard never showed up in the big games, so it should be easy to replace him.
Not true Aaron | 11:36 p.m. Oct. 26, 2009
No one on BYU's team will be able to do all the things Cummard did. The Cougs will miss him, and will need to find a new style of play.

All they need to do is give Jimmer the ball and they will be fine. Limit tavernarie's touches cause he'll park it outside the three point line and launch shots to his hearts' content. Jimmer's gonna have a breakout year, not just as a scorer, but as a team leader.

It's all talk until BYU can win a game in the NCAA tournament. Until then....talk, talk, talk. I hope they have a great year but great won't be defined until they win at least one or two. ONE would be a place to begin!

I agree with Aaron W.

I agree with Aaron .. Cummard never showed up in the big games .. in all the games i watched it was as if he was not on the floor you would hear JT and Emery and Fedderett and then wonder what happened to Cummard. I like the idea of starting big get Hartstock in the game early right now he has the biggest upside of the big men. With Miles you get a big for defense and with Anderson you have a guy with experience he got last year, Davies like Harstock last year needs playing time.

Is the Max Hall of basketball.

Looks all world against the little guys.

Folds and disappears against good competition in games that matter.

Was it Cummard who came back to secure his legacy in the MWC and at BYU last year? How did that turn out?
Good time to switch to b-ball | 9:25 a.m. Oct. 27, 2009
Now that the football season is in the toilet I guess it is as good a time as any to start talking basketball. Way to kill football enthusiasm early again BRONCO!!!

Hawes is already a better player than Cummard ever was.
Be honest | 9:33 a.m. Oct. 27, 2009
Other than Fredette, is there any other player on BYU this season anywhere near as good as Cummard? Nope.

LaVar,

No that was the wookie up North. Can't remember his name.

Maybe it's me, but I didn't think Cummard was that good last year. Much better in years previously.
Cougarf@n | 3:09 p.m. Oct. 27, 2009
Cummard definitely faded to the finish in his senior year. His contributions were somewhat deceptive in terms of assists, defense, etc., so he'll be missed, but I don't think he's irreplacable, especially in the big games. The natural improvement of the four starters remaining in the system will make up for any drop-off in Cummard's replacement and BYU will be just as good or better than last year. There's certainly no guarantee of a NCAA win, but it's better than losing in the first round of the NIT or not playing any post-season ball at all.
Rumor has it... | 3:36 p.m. Oct. 27, 2009
that Cummard has already come home from overseas and is close to signing with the Flash.
WinSum | 4:23 p.m. Oct. 27, 2009
Shouldn't be too tough....it would be nice to have someone show up in big-games....?

A cardboard cutout will suffice.
Re: Rumor has it | 4:27 p.m. Oct. 27, 2009
That's not rumor. That's already been reported by the Dnews a few weeks ago.
Is it true...?? | 7:20 p.m. Oct. 27, 2009
If I started cheering for Utah football and BYU basketball, would I be bi-polar?

My Ute friends have told me that if I convert over to football, I also have to convert over to basketball. I think I should have it both ways.

I gave away all my 40 yard line tickets for the rest of the year, for free, except for two for the Ute game late November. Should I burn them or sell them on ebay to a Ute fan? I was told by a BYU end zone fan that he would give me five bucks a piece...and to think that Holmoe talked me out of $1150 for each seat X 4!!

I don't know how good of an AD he is, but I can guarantee you he is a master salesman!

And to think that I waited eight long months for September 5 to get here. I'll never make that mistake again...

Really, think of all the 50 yard line Ute tickets I could have bought and still had money left over!!

tickets | 9:42 p.m. Oct. 27, 2009
I have $10 per ticket available. As for the Football team they will win out. Utah will lose at least 3 total and maybe 4.

The basketball team would be better with out T. The man doesn't know how to play defense. He would do great in the no defense NBA
re: Is it true...?? | 9:50 p.m. Oct. 27, 2009
One thing is for sure true... and that is your a fair weather fan.
labman | 10:21 p.m. Oct. 27, 2009
WELL SAID! Fair weather fans! I am so excited to see the b-ball team play. a new season, a new team, probably a new chemistry and style. Let's play a few games before someone annoints or condems them!
Winning is not all that easy and winning over and over is even harder. Go ahead and sell you tickets and go watch Utah! who cares! Is T perfect? NO Was Cummard perfect? NO, but they came and played their hearts out! Let's see what the new guys can do. It will be fun to watch them grow. Good luck Coach Rose and the entire crew. As for the football team.... I personally would rather have 5 loyal fans than 1000 fair weather ones! Count me loyal and I hope the boys keep their heads up and play like the next game is the most important one, because it is.

Rose and Bronco took over programs that were talent poor. Reid and Crowton killed us and with the missionary program---you don't see talent on the court or field for 3+ years.....Both have had better than remarkable recruiting classes---look at the recruiting classes they brought in just this year. It makes me smile because success is 70% recruiting.....It is hard for all of us to be patient from our recent low years......
Cougs have potential | 12:23 p.m. Oct. 28, 2009
I definitely think the Cougars have the talent to make up for the departure of Cummard this year. As many have already said, he was great except in the games that mattered. It will be more interesting to see if BYU will have any of the athleticism they always seem to be missing. They need more speed to compete with the big boys. SDSU and UNLV, even Utah, are consistently more athletic.
Wayne Peart | 1:43 p.m. Oct. 28, 2009
Replace him with Max Hall.
Anonymous | 3:52 p.m. Oct. 29, 2009
Yeah, Cummard really did nothing for us. We never needed him, would have been way better off without him!! Probably one of the worst players to come through BYU. What a waste of time and money for BYU over the last 4 years, whew, glad those are over!!!
