So how do you get the candle or light inside to light the pumpkin up at night?

For lighting, I think I would try something exterior to the pumpkin. These designs are a lot safer than the traditional carving and lighting and have the advantages of being less messy and longer lasting. Painting the pumpkin face also works, using paints that won't attack the pumpkin skin. These are just further creative outlets for decorating pumpkins that even children can participate in.
