call it what it actually is. its their first regular season practice before they play denver and not their "post pre-season/ pre-regular season" practice.
cjm | 8:26 p.m. Oct. 25, 2009
oh and who reported that goran suton was high on sloan's list of actually making the team. that guy was just cut a few days ago from what the media reports said. koufos better get an opportunity to actually play since collins is gone.

Must be nice to be Matt Harping resting it up in Atlanta, getting paid his full contract of six million (yes, million) five hundred thousand dollars this year. Absolutely disgraceful. And you want me to pay his salary by attending games? In my lifetime, I won't make what he makes in a year. Disgusting.

Harpring is the last Jazz man that should take any heat. The guy is going to be hobbling around the rest of his life because he gave his all to the game of basketball and the Utah Jazz. By the way, professional athletes make a lot of money because they generate a lot of money. Is there something that you do well enough to put 18,000 fans in an arena?
11:04 | 11:43 p.m. Oct. 25, 2009
Thats a good reply to all of the whiners who expect the players to wobble around on 1/2 a leg and one knee but still expect an all star performance.

Korver and CJ will be back. Everyone else will get dings from time to time. It is the nature of the game. It happens to all teams. In the long run your salary is based partly on how many games you tend to miss and how injury prone you are. Missing games is not a winner for most players.

This story was written to fill space. C'mon, give us something worth reading.

@Anonymous and 11:04 you are both right on and I couldn't agree with you more. If Harpring is unable to return and is done with his career we should be thankful for what he conrtibuted to the team and know at least he earned his salary as his retirement pension. Here is a hugh thank you Matt from one fan.

Out with the old and in with the new. We've got young guys that can play. Now if Sloan will play them and give them some game time they will develop.
Nevada fan | 9:43 a.m. Oct. 26, 2009
If anybody on this team and management should take any heat it should be Korver! Wait two weeks before training camp to start working out come on, that should be a year round job for the $ he gets. Makes one wonder if that's why he opted in.
re:jetter | 9:51 a.m. Oct. 26, 2009
I get tired of people saying play all these young guys and then turn around and criticize when the team loses.

The NBA is win now. The Jazz expect to contend every year and I am sorry, you don't "contend" playing guys like Koufus and Fess who are mediocre in the D-League. There is a reason they want these guys to practice hard and work hard in the offseason and to develop in the D-League.

The average margin of victory in the NBA is 3 points.

Koufus and Fess mistakes could literally cost you that much in a matter of seconds.

People who don't know basketball say "play these guys" and then complain when the team plays poorly.

The team/players thrive on conistency and predictability. I've heard the players themselves complain that was what caused so much difficulty last season and they themselves hate all these mixed up line-ups.

They want to play with the same guys so they know where there team mates are on the floor when they do something.

These young guys don't even know where they are supposed to be half the time.

Thats a big problem.

is Erick Dampier available? Yeah I know guess what big contract..I ask this because i heard rumors Dallas was trying to unload him all offseason.

He has values, I do not care if he ever scores a point, he is a veteran post presence who can defend and board. Remember late last season blowout loss in Dallas, he had an outstanding game.
todd from santa ana | 10:55 a.m. Oct. 26, 2009
by the way it is not giving up on Kous and Fez why I asked about a 33 year old backup center. It is about post presence, which would comfortably allow Mehmout to switch to#4 and play them together with Paul or even with Boyzie...He can defend without a lot of help. he is putback, dunks, pick and roll type guy no offense, but sound defense. I just wish we had one more big body that can play up front that is why i asked
fes | 11:30 a.m. Oct. 26, 2009
Fes has the talent to block shots, be a defensive presence, and finish with power around the rim.

It's too bad his will is that of a school girl
on square dance day.

to Nevada Fan | 11:57 a.m. Oct. 26, 2009
How do you know when Korver started working out? Most of these guys work out all summer... it's much easier to stay in shape than to try and get in shape before training camp, and veterans know this. Shame on you for pretending to know more than you do, and worse, being critical of someone based on that fake knowledge. It is NOT in Korver's best interest to start the season injured and having surgery in a CONTRACT YEAR. It would be stupid for a player to opt in because they know they are injured... and require surgery during the season in which they are trying to get a NEW contract?? In the future, it might be best to actually think before you post.
Tahoe | 12:54 p.m. Oct. 26, 2009
Personally I don't care too much when Korver started working out. All I know is that his all around game is not very good during the 82 game season. It might be good he he stayed out for a while. No hurry Korver take your time.
RE:todd from santa ana | 10:55 a | 1:49 p.m. Oct. 26, 2009
How much time is left on Dampier's contract? and what is his avg BPG. I just ask because i have limited internet access at work and I cant look it up like I normally would.
todd from santa ana | 2:59 p.m. Oct. 26, 2009
i just checked, yeah man what an eye opener., Man much more than i ever thought. Dampier is 34, he averaged 2 blocks a game last year, 6 pts and 7 boards, he is making 10m this season and 11 next season before expiration

10 million?

Centers are at a premium. he missed the final preseason games due to personal reasons
RE: todd (Aka) Bones | 4:35 p.m. Oct. 26, 2009
Yeah Thats a nice BPG Id make that trade in a second. If They would make a trade like that and then Korver and/or Miles can come back from injuries and have some sort of significant improvement on their outside shooting pct This team could be ridiculous.
The way I see it is that we have 2 big problems, no blocking big man & not enough outside threats. I would like Okur + 1 or 2 big shooters on the roster and someone like Dampier down low on defense. Think how nasty this lineup would be defensively

Williams
Brewer
AK
Millsap
Dampier

Obviously we would need other lineups out there, to keep up offensively, but if we ever needed to just shut the other team down this would be amazing.
10 Million now ...11 million... | 5:28 p.m. Oct. 26, 2009
next year,,,,for a 34 year old guy who scores 6 points and pulls down 7 boards a game????? sounds like just what we need to win it all!!!!
Nevada fan | 5:28 p.m. Oct. 26, 2009
pre to nevada fan:
Then explain to me why he couldn't even get through training camp if he had been training through out the off season.I can see back problems, sprains, hamstrings, etc,but bone spurs at the knee! Thats been a problem for a while. I should know I have them at both elbows.
Are you serious | 5:32 p.m. Oct. 26, 2009
come-on Todd you can`t be serious, move Memo to the 4 where we are overloaded(Booze,Millsap,ak,Koufos) and bring in a stiff like Dampier,come-on man tell us you`re joking
Bones | 6:00 p.m. Oct. 26, 2009
Re:10 Million now ...11 million...

Nobody is saying he would be here to score a ton of points or that he would be a complete answer to our problems. If you haven't noticed our offense isnt the problem, its the fact that other teams can drive to the rim and score at will against us (among a few other things). An experienced guy that averages 2 blocks a game and can hold his own on rebounds would definitely be a big step in the right direction.
We have tried the strong offense average defense combo for long enough now to know that its not gonna work out for us. Im thinking we should follow suit with the teams that actually win championships and shore up our defensive presence.
Doug Moe | 6:01 p.m. Oct. 26, 2009
Why would Dallas ,a team trying to win it all unload their only real center????BECAUSE HE IS A BIG WORTHLESS OVERPAID STIFF
Re Todd | 6:19 p.m. Oct. 26, 2009
who would you trade for Dampier?
Dampier? Dampier???? | 7:16 p.m. Oct. 26, 2009
you`re killing me
Re Bones | 7:26 p.m. Oct. 26, 2009
When I think of defensive presence KG comes to mind, not Dampier,we might as well resign Ostertag or bring back Mikki Moore,I agree we need a shot blocker /changer,but Dampier????
todd from santa ana | 9:49 p.m. Oct. 26, 2009
You guys misunderstood my statements, sorry took so long to respond. My first sentence of rebuttal if you notice "what an eye opener" I was not clear enough. I was "stunned" he was making 10 million this season, 11 next season. I guess instead of putting that out I was lazy, was not at home and just put out there I should have checked first.

1/2 that salary sure. But no not at 10 or 11 million that is horrible. 2 blocks a game are good but I was tunned to see he was making that much.

Frankly, Kirilenko I would consider in a trade he makes so much then Dallas takes on that extra salary, rest questionable.

They are a major rival anyway and I cannot see them helping us. Mikki Moore I saw him once I wanted to gargle this preseason-nope...The Center I could have seen coming here and helping our style of play and doing well went to New Orleans (okafor)

Kirilenko i would consider in Dampier move, not Boozer. Or CJ, and or Koustos, a Flash player and a set of cards perhaps...

ABout it....
Chuck Nunn | 10:11 p.m. Oct. 26, 2009
Fesenko can match those Dampier numbers now that he's going to get the minutes he needs, and for wayyyy less. 2K will also be fine once he settles down and improves on finishing at the rim. Can't wait for Wednesday!

Peace out from the Jazz Oracle!
Someone slept through math class | 5:25 a.m. Oct. 27, 2009
To the poster who repeatedly mentions that the average margin of victory in the NBA is 3 points... WRONG, WRONG, WRONG. I don't know where you're getting your stats, but pull up any NBA team randomly and look at the margins of victory of their games last season and you'll see that the average is MUCH greater than 3.

(Which intuitively makes sense... it would take six 1-point games to average out one 15-point game. Are 1-point thrillers six times more common than a 15-point game? Of course not.)
Bones | 2:00 p.m. Oct. 27, 2009
I just got a chance to look at Dampiers numbers first hand. His BPG is not 2 its 1.2 and steadily declining..... I retract my support for a major trade involving him, unless it would save us money.
todd to bones | 3:18 p.m. Oct. 27, 2009
i agree with you...I saw that too I found that on Hoops Hype on the blocks but maybe I read it wrong. 10 million is a joke for him
Bones to Todd | 3:25 p.m. Oct. 27, 2009
I always use ESPN.com to find stats and salaries and stuff like that. Its got everything you would need clearly laid out with career and season averages and totals.
