that at least Utah found a way to win their freaking game. Props to the Utes for going 7 - 1 - I hope for their sake they play in a decent bowl game. It's unfortunate that it's probably going to be in LV (they probably deserve better than that).
James II | 12:38 a.m. Oct. 25, 2009
I guess Brad Rock prefers an "exciting" 31-point BYU home loss to TCU than a "boring" Utah win.

Also, Rock: Utah wins its bowl games. Do some reading, mmmkay?

Ya know.....it's not pretty, we know it, we are not fooling anybody, we win ugly. But...if you consider what the Utes have done since that ugly loss to UNLV in 2007, it is the most amazing story in college football. Utah has now won 27 of their last 29 games. Seriously folks, try to top that! Utah has been in every game for almost three years straight now. Nobody has blown the Utes out. A miracle pass in Provo and a one touchdown loss to a decent Oregon team, with Utah driving down to tie the game in the final minutes, that is it.... We are still in the hunt for a BCS bowl berth as well. If the Utes win out, and Boise and Houston stumble, the Utes are back in the hunt. Utah is amazing!
oh brother | 5:28 a.m. Oct. 25, 2009
brad is lame. the utes won. its a "w". byu was overrated from the start.
Mike Johnson Fallon NV | 6:59 a.m. Oct. 25, 2009
What other team out there winning games 30-14, 35-17, and 35-15 has those wins called "so-so wins"? Was BYU's identical 35-17 win over USU a "so-so win"?

The boring game played yesterday in the state was not played in Salt Lake. Nor was it played in Logan or Cedar City, for that matter. The game in Provo, however, quickly became a boring game.
Anonymous | 7:17 a.m. Oct. 25, 2009
Bottom line is always the WIN. Yes the Utes need to clean up the fumbles, but they WON. It wasn't pretty, but they WON. They are not the same team as last year and they are still developing, but they WON.

Hey Brad Rock, in case you didn't realize it, THE UTES WON!!

nottyou | 7:33 a.m. Oct. 25, 2009
Wow, Utah with 7 straight years of bowl eligibility? Have they surpassed the record they set for consecutive straight years that they didn't qualify for a bowl? Just curious.
sob | 7:36 a.m. Oct. 25, 2009
it wasn't so long ago that the utes always managed to find a way to lose a close game, i will settle for ugly wins rather then ugly losses anytime.
At the end of the day | 8:13 a.m. Oct. 25, 2009
A "W" is still a "W" and an "L" is still an "L"

You'll get to more bowl games by winning all your games by less than 5 points, than you will by beating 1/2 your opponents by 20+ points and losing 2 games by 20+ points.

At the end of the season they don't give style points for how badly you beat the UNLV's and SDSU's of the world.

They give credit for beating good teams, regardless the score.
At Utah | 8:16 a.m. Oct. 25, 2009
you will win your bowl game. At the other place you get to play in bowl games.

Unbelievable! With a team that is nothing more than "avaerage" these Ewet fans are still babbling about getting better this year. Quite frankly you are what youv'e shown to date-----------"AVERAGE".
Muss Member | 11:47 a.m. Oct. 25, 2009
"If the falcons can't look pretty. Nobody can." Haha love the line Rock. Keep doin what ur doin.

Go Utes!
Oh and PS keep ur eyes open for the basketball team comin up in a few weeks here. They have a quality schedule with a young team that has tremendous upside.
Once again Go Utes!! All day every day.
MWC Bowls | 12:06 p.m. Oct. 25, 2009
Unfortunately they will be playing a C-USA team. But next year they could go to the Independance bowl and play a 7th place ACC team. MWC fans if you thought playing in memphis is bad Shreveport is a big step below that. But it is birthplace of Britney Spears Maybe the bowl can arrange a tour of the trailor Mrs. Spears grew up in.

The whole bowl system sucks. Bring on a playoff.

re still raving. | 12:41 p.m. Oct. 25, 2009
Unbelievable!? 7-1 is not average buddy. Its ugly, but were winning. How is your team doing? How does it feel to be as good as your ever gonna be?
Fumbles.... | 2:39 p.m. Oct. 25, 2009
Yea the Utes have their problems hanging onto the ball. The irony is, it was the fumble that bounced into their own arms, which gave them their first TD. Without it AF wins.
I love Utah football | 2:50 p.m. Oct. 25, 2009
that is all.
Kent | 3:28 p.m. Oct. 25, 2009
If, if, if. All I know is 7-1 so far and a close loss to Oregon. That sounds pretty good to me and with only TCU and the Cougs to go, still a conference championship is still a good possibility. Average not!
BYU fan | 4:51 p.m. Oct. 25, 2009
This is crazy. I am a BYU fan but you have to look at the facts. Ugly wins are better than even uglier losses. BYU is still a good team, but so is Utah. The team that finds a way to win, ugly or not, is still the winner. Sorry.
ACE | 5:43 p.m. Oct. 25, 2009
I cheer for BYU in every game they play. I was bummed yesterday...but hey...it is just a game. I cheer for the Utes every game they play except vs BYU. However, now that TCU is carrying the banner for the MWC, I might just cheer for them against the Utes for the sake of showing up the country club of the BCS. If it cannot be BYU, then it should at least be MWC.
Anonymous | 5:47 p.m. Oct. 25, 2009
I thought Utah's luck had run out - not yet. No one can be lucky forever. Yes, I would rather win ugly than lose ugly. I think BYU matches up better against AF and the Utes match up better with TCU (not well enough for the Utes to win this year though - bad kicker or not).
SEC RULES! | 7:52 p.m. Oct. 25, 2009
THE SEC IS THE BEST AND I DOUBT YOU'LL WIN AGAINST TCU AND SINCE BASKETBALL IS AROUND THE CORNOR I BET Y'ALL WILL FLUKE OUT IN THE MARCH MADNESS LIKE LAST SEASON! SEC! SEC!
Just to clear it up | 7:55 p.m. Oct. 25, 2009
Cougar fans, win out the rest of your games and we will see you for a fun one in Provo.

AFA vs TCU, TCU wins by 3
UofU vs AFA, UofU wins by 7
BYU vs AFA, ?

Please stop criticizing the UofU vs AFA 7 pt win in OT. The criticism is due to one of the following:

1. You're looking for some comfort in your loss
2. You're ignoring the fact that AFA almost beat TCU
3. You're wishing that you were in Utah's shoes

Otherwise, just give it up!!! Go Utes!!!
Anonymous | 8:32 p.m. Oct. 25, 2009
To win a conference championship the Yewts have to win at TCU. If you think that is going to happen, you are truely dilusional. BYU scored 7 more points against them than the Yewts will score.
zapporo | 10:31 p.m. Oct. 25, 2009
Congratulations on a great win Utah. It wasn't pretty but it puts another W in the win column, which beats a loss any day of the week. Utah is going to be a tough match for the Cougars this year, especially since the game is in Provo. Perhaps Utah can have a contest with TCU to see which team can get zoob fans to clear out of the stadium faster?

Re: Anonymous | 1:36 a.m. Oct. 26, 2009
I remember Cougar fans saying the same thing last year after TCU blew past BYU 32-7 with superior speed and athletes. Utah and TCU recruit similar athletes so the game should be more competitive, as it was last year. I do agree that TCU looks to be the better team this year but Utah matches up much better with TCU than BYU did. Expect a closer game that what you watched on Saturday.

BYU chooses size over speed and grass over turf. Teams with athletic defenses like TCU, Utah and Florida State will always give BYU fits until they choose to change their recruiting priorities.

I laugh at the excuses I've heard this weekend regarding the lack of athletes being able to live the honor code at the Y, limiting Bronco's ability to recruit. Are you kidding?!?! There are plenty of young men willing to live the honor code that are fast and athletic. BYU CHOOSES TO BE BIG AND SLOW. The decision to choose natural grass over a faster artifical turf confirms it. Fast athletes prefer to play for a school with rubberized synthetic turf.

Go Utes!
Wow | 8:42 a.m. Oct. 26, 2009
Hey Rock, lets poll BYU fans this morning and see if they'd like an ugly, boring win, after that embarrassing performance on Saturday in LES.

Find a way to win, that is what Utah is doing right now. Their offense is struggling, but unlike BYU they have a defense that keeps them in games. If Cain can figure things out this year, watch out. I would absolutly count on a loss for Utah at TCU as of today, but we all know the Utes get up for big games, unlike TDS, so lets hope they can find another way to win an ugly, boring game in Forth Worth!

Pretty wins versus bad teams are BYU's style, just like embarrassing losses versus good teams are!
Vegas Bowl | 12:52 p.m. Oct. 26, 2009
Let's hope the Utes go to Vegas this year. If they land in San Diego, they might be matched up with BSU.
(That is assuming that TCU goes to a BCS bowl) I would rather see BYU fans get embarassed AGAIN by a angry BSU team and Utah beat a respectable PAC 10 team than Utah end their incredible bowl win streak to Bosie State.
Just in case | 9:06 a.m. Oct. 27, 2009
everyone forgot...UTAH WON. When they play YOUR team and they WIN do you care by how much we beat you by? That is what people do that don't win...they worry about things like 1st downs, margin of victory yadda yadda yadda. Utes Win! Utes Win! Utes Win! and on nov 28th the UTES WIN AGAIN!!! This year...2009!!! That's right we're clear into the year 2009 Cougars and guess what??? UTES WIN!!!!
