In the air? | 1:09 a.m. Oct. 25, 2009
TCU showed that BYU is as slow as we thought. TCU showed that BYU is a pretender and not worthy of all their hype.

Good thing for TCU is that we play you at the end of the season. You seem to be one team that gets progressively worse as the season passes. Happened last year as well.

BYU learned they are all "air."

Yes, BYU's secondary makes another non-passing team look great through the air. Although, at least 65 of those yards were on one play at Logan right after he got jobbed on a 3rd down PI to keep that drive alive, and another 60 yards or so were on trick plays, so it's not like Dalton was consistently passing well. I kept trying to figure out why BYU thinks it can execute a better team into submission when that same better team is pulling out all the stops against BYU. I thought we hands down got outcoached this game. In the end I think it might be the last time it happens. Not because I think the BYU coaching staff will stop making the same dumb mistakes, because Patterson will be headed to greener pastures after a BCS game this year.

TCU vs BYU | 8:15 a.m. Oct. 25, 2009

TCU can beat BYU:
--through the air
--on the ground
--by defense

you name it.
BYU is becoming irrelevant in MWC football.
Cougars | 8:25 a.m. Oct. 25, 2009
Never really did get going.

Had 1 drive that resulted in anything.

Got pushed around, shoved around.

All at your home stadium.

If the FSU game did not crush the "invincible at LES" myth, then this game certainly did.

Cougars need to man up and play physical, aggressive football if they have hopes of taking the next step (meaning a BCS bowl game and not just another Vegas Bowl)

Oh, and will this game finally put to rest all of the "so you're saying there's a chance" myths about BYU making a BCS bowl game this year?
Anonymous | 9:13 a.m. Oct. 25, 2009
That play was embarassing. How did we not tackle him.

Re: In the air?

Uh..no. TCU will whip the Utes badly. Don't forget, you guys looked pretty bad yourselves yesterday. Yes, you won. But Air Force is NO TCU.
Gary C Rowton | 9:18 a.m. Oct. 25, 2009
So does this mean we will have to sue the bcs to get in the national championship game?

AP Poll:

Boise State 6th
TCU 8th
Utah 19th
BYU....will the real BYU please stand up......
Realistic Ute Fan | 11:44 a.m. Oct. 25, 2009
Hold on now, before everyone gets so giddy about the outcome of the TCU game vs the team down south, remember we have to play both teams at their homes. TCU is a very, very good football team, one that will give every team on their schedule a beat down. So, as MWC fans, we should hope they run the table, Boise runs the table, and gives the BCS more problems each year, until the outdated system is changed.
TCU will certainly give us all we want when we venture to Fort Worth, so quit being like We-Buy-U fans and judging our own team's value by what BYU does, or doesn't do. Give credit where credit is due, and TCU deserves a great deal at this time.
Cougarf@n | 12:14 p.m. Oct. 25, 2009
Yes, BYU's BCS hopes are completely obliterated at this point. Prior to this game, as a fan of BYU, I was trying to decide which game between the OU and the FSU game was a fluke. Obviously it was the OU game. This is a bad loss, but it's not the end of the season for two reasons: #1 BYU can (and will) still win ten games this season, #2 BYU can (and will) still beat Utah demonstrating they're the best football team in Utah for 3 of the last four years #3 BYU can (and will) still take 2nd in the MWC ahead of third place Utah, #4 BYU can (and will) still be ranked almost every week this season (just outside both major polls), and #5 BYU can (and will) beat whatever scrappy seconds the PAC-10 provides to the Vegas Bowl.

A victory over Utah and another ten win season isn't much considering where BYU was after beating OU, but I'll take it.
Bluebie | 1:01 p.m. Oct. 25, 2009
"Frogs show they can beat you through the air too" the title should read "Anyone can beat us through the air." When are we going to recruit some defense?

We sucked it up last night!!!
RE: Cougarf@n | 12:14 p.m. Oct.  | 1:03 p.m. Oct. 25, 2009
Friday BYU was the best team in the nation and Hall should win the Heisman. Now they're the best team in Utah. The standards seem to change (just like a lot that's taught at BYU). By the end of the season BYU will be the best team in Provo, but then again that might not be true!!!!
Been there done that | 1:25 p.m. Oct. 25, 2009
This loss should seperate the band wangon fans from the true blue fans. It will be interesting to watch. The empty seat rants will surely be comimg if the losses keep mounting. (And they will)

Sincerely,

Ute fan for forty years

That performance was horrible at best. TCU toyed with us all game long! It was not even like the we showed up for a scrimmage game. BYU will never win the big games again. I left in the middle of the 3rd Qtr with almost everyone else. We need to voice a boo here and there as fans and stop singing primary songs so the coaches know how the fans feel. I am glad we are not ranked anymore now maybe with out the pressure of a 1984 repeat we can pull it together and at least beat Utah to salvage our season.
I saw it coming | 2:36 p.m. Oct. 25, 2009
through the air. TCU wasn't the only one who knew BYU's weakness. It has been obvious all season.
Coaching needs to be a little creative, which I have seen none of with the current staff.
Russ Krey | 2:47 p.m. Oct. 25, 2009
BYU needs to bench Hall and bring in a QB who can win the big game. He is a major non performer ! The secondary is awkful. Never will they beat Utah unless they change QBs and trash their secondary. Poor game preparation and coaching. Put the program back .... How does the bball team look ??
Caleby | 4:09 p.m. Oct. 25, 2009
I took my son to the game which was the first I had attended in Provo in 25 years. What a completely heartless performance by BYU. The only person who looked like he was interested in playing was Unga. Sorry Cougarf@an but Logan was not "jobbed" on that third down PI call. Grabbing the guy as he runs past you will get a call everytime. Then standing there and letting your guy blow by you will get you a 65 touch down more often than not. If he's the best BYU has at corner, then no wonder BYU gets ripped by a decent team.
Time for coaching changes on defense and offense. The only play Anae called decently was their touchdown play. Other than that it was stiff and predictable. The only way to beat a team like this is to pull out all the stops. Where is a fake punt or going for it on fourth and two at the 50 when you team is behind three touchdowns. Goodness sake, instead of just Bronco looking like he was just shot with a tranquilizing dart, the whole team looked like it the whole game!
Skinned? | 4:15 p.m. Oct. 25, 2009
I think the cats got more than skinned last night.

Can it get any worse?
Discovega | 4:52 p.m. Oct. 25, 2009
Typical BYUish: Is the church still true..we lost? Why didn't God intervene? Is this our reward for righteous living? All I have ever believed is now questionable!

I'm tellin' ya...the dynasty in Utah has begun, hold on to your horses because you aint seen nothin' yet...Utes 2010!
Dennis | 5:01 p.m. Oct. 25, 2009
Yes it can get worse.
And it will.
Is it embarrassing, Bronco | 5:52 p.m. Oct. 25, 2009
Coach Mendenhall,

You are a former defensive back, a former defensive backfield coach, and a former defensive coordinator, and your defensive backs were horrible. Are you embarrassed by that? You should be.

All the talk about BYU being slower just hides the real problem -- they don't execute at a "higher level," an average level, or even a below average level. Many of TCU's biggest plays were the result of blown assignments, not slower players -- and that is the coach's fault. Period.
OldPuebloGuyinWyo | 8:30 p.m. Oct. 25, 2009
I also like to see good football....and that is what I saw last night from the end zone. Obviously, from TCU. Yes, I was not happy with the outcome but I kept thinking to myself, "who is making all the offense play calls". It just seemed like we were very content to stay with the same game plan as in any other game played this year. We kept running with no success. When you are that far behind, pass, pass, pass. TCU saw an advantage and clearly changed their plan and worked on BYU's weekness. Yes, some luck involved.....and someone made the comments about the fair weather fans versus the true blue fans.....there is clearly a distinction, which I saw last night. Took my son to his first game at LES and told him, "watch...you will see a big clearing of folks from the stadium right around the end of the 3rd qtr." His statement, "looks like a bunch of ants leaving." Yes it is sad when you see your team lose, but watch until the end no matter how much of a "thumping" they take. Go Cougs.
Jack Wade | 9:09 p.m. Oct. 25, 2009
After TCU's first TD, the BYU defense had their hands on their hips because they knew they were in for a long, long day...

TCU was simply faster and more athletic. And clearly better coached.
Shell shocked? | 10:55 p.m. Oct. 25, 2009
Shell shocked denotes suprize, unusual or unforseen turn of events. I would have been shell shocked if BYU had put up a fight.
BYU will not pass | 10:59 p.m. Oct. 25, 2009
Mendenhall is not stupid.

We, the fans, are uneducated.

But, Mendenhall got one thing right, he knew that if he let Maximus loose and let him start trying to win the game with his arm then he would try forcing the ball into situations he shouldn't, then the outcome would have been interceptions galore and TCU would likely have blown past 50 points.

Bronco knows getting beat by 31 points by running the ball the whole game (and running out the clock, thus giving TCU less chances to score) is preferable to giving Max the green light and losing by 50+ points.
SEC Saint | 4:58 a.m. Oct. 26, 2009
"Many of TCU's biggest plays were the result of blown assignments, not slower players -- and that is the coach's fault. Period."

Unbelievable, so just how is the slower cornerback supposed to avoid "blowing the assignment" when he can't keep up with the receiver?

I have an idea - let's pay Javier Arenas and Pat Haden to transfer to Provo, then we will turn a blind eye to any honor code violations. Who cares about the integrity of the institution if we can beat TCU!

As much as I love it, it is clear that some things are much more precious than winning football games.
y fan | 6:49 a.m. Oct. 26, 2009
byu coulda done alot better. TCU improved and BYU inproved. BYU at least didn't have a lot of turnovers. one interception and no fumbles
The problems are as follows | 8:23 a.m. Oct. 26, 2009
#1 Bronco can not motivate a team
#2 Anae can not call an offense
#3 None of the coaches can make adjustments at half time
BYU was out manned, out played, out coached. The entire team and especially the coaches owe the fans and supporters a major apology for not showing up.

Little Jimmy Brady | 3:13 p.m. Oct. 26, 2009
I just love LES when the fans are completely silent, with their mouths hanging open in shock...When will you fans at BYU ever learn that you're not all that you think you are? I bet LES will be silent and 40% empty when Utah gets done with you too! WATCH & SEE!
Love My Frogs go all the way!!!
BYU haters | 4:05 p.m. Oct. 27, 2009
Hey Ute Fans,
Or should I say BYU haters. I wonder if any of you Ute fans (I can't get a job so I live at home with mom and indulge in my BYU obsession and checkout all the BYU articles and blogs) realized that you played a game this week. In case you didn't know because you were reading this, Utah played a good Airforce team and won. Please try rooting for your own team rather than show casing your 56 IQ on BYU articles.
What??? | 4:29 p.m. Oct. 27, 2009
Normally I don't even bother with the YBU articles, but I saw "BYU Haters" comment scroll across the bottom.... go read any article about the Utes, and your haters are out in full force! That being said, two points:

1. Utah played like crap against a team that always makes them look bad, and if it wasn't for goal line D we would have lost.

2. After the FSU "game" Steve Young pointed out.... BYU recruits big strong players, but they can't handdle speed. It's been thier Kryptonite since the 80's... instead of getting mad about the play calling, talk about recruiting.
re: BYU haters | 4:43 p.m. Oct. 27, 2009
Come on bro - get real. Plenty of kitty fans go on Utah articles and hate. Plus, the "get out of your mother's basement" talk is so played out, and the IQ comment is bush league. Quit trying to pawn off a terrible loss on Utah fans. Man up, deal with the loss, and realize there's no BCS for the kitties this year.

Keep that weak smack talk for elders quorum ball.
BYWHO? | 8:13 a.m. Oct. 28, 2009
We may have to play both of those teams still. However atloeast we know we have a defense and ROJO to back us up. thank you for your time!
