Way to go Alta. Davis you were a great team. You played incredible, I know the game could have gone either way but Alta you pulled it together and had a great passing game and the whole team worked incredibly hard. You all deserved this win.
Awesome game | 11:55 p.m. Oct. 23, 2009
For those of you Davis fans that were not there, it was of the same level as the Davis/Cottonwood state championship football game a few years ago. Only that time Davis was victorious!. Great game anyway, the best game at Rio Tinto this year.
Non biased observer | 12:39 a.m. Oct. 24, 2009
I twas a great game. One of the best I have ever seen. Congrats to both teams.... so very exciting!! I only wish they would have really kept the shoot out going legally. Altas keeper was off her line early on every play so when she made one save it should have been redone. The refs blew it on that call very gutless.

Great Game | 12:55 a.m. Oct. 24, 2009
This was the best game.. Davis gave Alta a run for the win! But in the end... GO HAWKS!! They have themselves a DYNASTY!
Anonymous | 1:15 a.m. Oct. 24, 2009
Out of the last four years...Davis was by far the most worthy opponent we have ever encountered...not just in the playoffs, but ever. Good job both teams! It was a game that will never be repeated!!!
HS soccer fan | 1:36 a.m. Oct. 24, 2009
Coach Mitchell is Right! His best player is gone. I don't care what they say. Ohai made that team not coach Mitchell.
Davis shut down Ohai that's why it was close. Alta won the shoot out not the game.
Coach you have been lucky to have had two Ohai's players.
Good Luck next year!
entertained | 2:14 a.m. Oct. 24, 2009
The best $5.00 I have ever spent for entertainment. Both Alta and Davis played their hearts out. Every player, coach and official on the Rio Tinto field last night should hold their heads high. There were no loosers, it truly was a game where everyone especially the fans witnessed a great if not greatest State 5A girls championship soccer game.

Wow alta kicks its way to 2 victories tonight. Congrats Lady Hawks.
how bout them hawks!!! | 7:06 a.m. Oct. 24, 2009
probably one of the best high school title games I've even seen!! Both teams probably played the best game of the season.. knowing the capabilites of both teams i was so excited to see what would happen.. as an Alta alumni i was cheering for alta but i have to say that region 1 deserves some respect for girls soccer this year and next.. we all know where davis is but when we hear about teams like freemont.. where the freak is freemont??? its small town teams like this that are finally gettin there kids out of the fields bailin hay and on the field.. so good job region 1.. good job alta!! 4 years in a row baby!!! Michael McCarthur is by far the coach of the year!!!
great game | 8:08 a.m. Oct. 24, 2009
Both teams played great, and I can't agree more-it was the best soccer game I have ever seen. Both goalies did a good job, but I agree with the earlier post-the Alta goalie moved forward off her line,EVERYTIME, before the kicker touched the ball-not a big deal, unless she actually stops one-which she finally did, and cost davis the game. Poor job by the refs on that particular play. Once again a ref too whimpy to make a call that could or should have changed the outcome. Other than that- the best game ever-great plays, great defense-especailly #23 on Davis. I guess we finally answered the question about at least one SOCCER player who was obviously faster than Altas forward. #23 beat her everytime in a foot race to the ball-EVERYTIME! Maybe we don't have to hold a track meet afterall. 4A game ended in exciting fashion also-with previous 5A state semi-finalist Timpanogas dropping down to 4A to win a state title.
Re;Non biased observer | 8:44 a.m. Oct. 24, 2009
The problem is you've been biased this whole time. You want to talk about refs, how bout the phantom foul when Ohai made the golden goal, that was the biggest joke of the game. The game should have never gone to a shoot out. Also remember as close as the game was Alta never trailed Davis once in the whole game.Davis trailed Alta three times, stop trying to ruin what was a great game by both teams. But if you want to talk smack your not going to win, Alta played Saracuse, Layton, Freemont, and Davis to win the state tilte for the fourth time, enough said, Mr. Non biased observer.
Never  | 8:53 a.m. Oct. 24, 2009
How will that game ever be topped, it was the greatest finals game I have ever seen in any sport. Both teams would not give up. Davis came back time after time, they fought to the bitter end and never gave up. I truely thought Alta after having a golden goal called back and then being scored on with ten seconds left in injury time would fold. not only did they not fold they came back harder in overtme.

re: HS soccer fan | 9:22 a.m. Oct. 24, 2009
did you really just say that without the ohai girl they wouldnt be a team...?? coach mitchell has been awarded high school soccer national coach of the year without the ohai girls.. if you would have played for him you would know what im talking about! he doesnt give a crap about winning, he cares about the players as individuals and then builds a team from that.. no drinking, no long hair, 3.0 gpa to start etc.. the guy doesnt mess around. so before you start talking crap on him get to know him!!! As far as the game goes, the ohai girl didnt even score.. which means there is more talent on that team than you think.. not to mention that the game was decided by the keeper saving a pk... how is that not a win.. i can understand if a davis girl would have missed or something... give talent a little credit
Alta the team | 9:22 a.m. Oct. 24, 2009
Kealia Ohai has shown she is the all round team player. Alta has been trashed for being a one player team. Kealia gave credit to her team as the ultimate team player. She said it best. Alta won as a team
Re:HS soccer fan | 9:32 a.m. Oct. 24, 2009
Alta fans have been trying to stay classy on these boards, but its next to imposable with you region one people.Coach Mithcel will alwys find a way to win he always has. As for Ohai being shut down, sorry she had several beautiful passes that should have been goals, she is so smartshe alwyas finds a way to win. The paper fails to mention Ohai's Golden Goal, that was taken back on the worst call of the night. Dais was lucky they even made it to a shoot out.
Anonymous | 9:36 a.m. Oct. 24, 2009
Wow what a game! Good job Davis for not giving up. Every time Alta scored I thought Davis was done. Then minutes later they always equalized! All three of Alta's goals came from seniors. Almost their whole lineup was seniors. Davis only had a couple of seniors. Two of their goals came from sophmores. That shows the talent Davis has. Good job both teams it was a fun game to watch!
ALTA | 9:40 a.m. Oct. 24, 2009
OOOP'S THEY DID IT AGAIN!
HS soccer fan | 9:54 a.m. Oct. 24, 2009
You must no know much about Coach Mitchell. Coach Mitchell has an incredible gift of taking some of the greatest individual soccer players and creating a team effort. He has always demanded TEAM effort and has no problem putting his best player on the bench if they can't respect their team mates. Some of the best players out of the state have total respect for Coach Mitchell system: Katie Larkin, Allison Martino, Megan Ohai, Hailee Dyong, Kealia Ohai..the list goes on. It takes a true coach that can manage players to play as a team and not individuals. Go Coach!!!!!!!!!!!!
Not a dynasty?  | 10:13 a.m. Oct. 24, 2009
Only two loses in four years, by only one team. props to Brighton.. Have defeated virtually every 5A team in the state multiple times, yes Davis, was knocked off by Alta more than once. The Alta seniors have 4 rings yes 4.There is not much more the Alta seniors can do as they are graduating this year!. Considering no 5A team in Utah history has even won back to back titles, and no team at any level has won 4 in a row except Alta, I would say its as close to a dynasty as you can get.
Glad its over | 10:29 a.m. Oct. 24, 2009
As a parent of a senior soccer player at Alta the best part of all this is I no longer have to read all this hate. Lone Peak Mom,Proud Dad,Non Biased , Region 1, La Roca, and several different Annonymous so called experts. I'm offically retired 4 state titles how sweet it is, you guys can fight among yourselves for the the next fifty years. Go for it!.
HAHAHAHA | 10:36 a.m. Oct. 24, 2009
#23 faster than Ohai..great congratulations we are happy for you go win a 100 yard dash someplace. But we won!. Its called soccer!.
Sure glad Alta won! | 10:43 a.m. Oct. 24, 2009
Can you imagine how bad these blogs would be if Alta lost!. I can hear it now, Region one is the greatest region of all time, we dominated etc.etc. look at all the cry babies on here now, if a Golden Goal would have been taken away from Davis they would be going to the supreme court for justice. Now there complaining about the keeper being off her line. Sad very very sad. The first rule of a Champion, never cry about your loses, something region one hasn't figured out yet.
Sorry RE:high school soccer fan | 10:46 a.m. Oct. 24, 2009
Mitchel was named national coach of the year the year both Ohai girls were on the team and Alta went 22-0.
You guys crack me up | 10:51 a.m. Oct. 24, 2009
All these posts that claim they are non bias observers than you come on with how great Davis is and how they should have won. Do you really think anyone believes your non bias?. You lost have the dignity to admit it and move on. Your embarrasing yourself and a your soccer team.

Rebekah Wooden isn't a senior. She scored two goals for alta and she is a junior...
Alta's Rings | 10:55 a.m. Oct. 24, 2009
Just heard they will have the #4 engraved on them. Sorry region 1, keep searching for that #1.
Sad | 11:03 a.m. Oct. 24, 2009
Right after the game last night I decided I was going to stay classy on these boards today, and it started out that way but if you look at the blogs from top to bottom region 1 people just can't do the same. You have to degrade everything that doesn't fit in your strange world. So all bets are off, except for the Davis team themselves, you people on here are losers, and no amount of rationalizing will change it, you lost and no matter how you spin it your a loser. Its loney at the top... no its not its beautiful up here.
What? | 11:07 a.m. Oct. 24, 2009
When you win 4 titles your bound to have alot of seniors, They won as 9th, 10th and 11th graders, why wouldn't they be playing. The difference in Alt's sophomores and Davis sophomores is Alta's were State Champions!.
re anonymous | 11:11 a.m. Oct. 24, 2009
Alta played four sophmores two of which played almost the entire match. Alta has talent to come. By the way the winning PK was by a sophmore. That my friend shows the talent Alta has.
Golden Goal | 11:45 a.m. Oct. 24, 2009
The golden goal was called back for offsides. Not a foul. No big. Just sayin'.
Go Coach Mitchell | 11:58 a.m. Oct. 24, 2009
Coach Mitchell best coach in the state!! Congratulations Hawks you showed you play as a team!! Ashley May with two assists and a goal...and rebeckah wooden with the other two goals!! Such a great group of girls and they dominated the game the whole time...i am excited to see them play next year.
just checkin.. | 12:09 p.m. Oct. 24, 2009
was the goal that was called back in overtime really an offsides??
Cool It | 12:40 p.m. Oct. 24, 2009
WOW! Last night was by far the closest matched and exciting Final game i have ever seen (which are many). Every time one team scored the other had an answer and the overtime and PK Shootout had everyone in that stadium on their toes! Congrat's to both Alta and Davis for making it this far and playing such an even matched game! The shootout could have gone either way. Fans sitting all around me an my family in the stands were joking saying we should "end the game and let them share the trophy." Again, congrats!
Alta Seniors | 1:10 p.m. Oct. 24, 2009
Alta seniors, congrats to you and the whole team. We will miss you so much. Thanks for being an example to the younger players and showing them what champions are all about. In the years to come we wish you all the best and please don't stay away too long. For those players that were injured and not able to play, thanks for all your support and the great attitude you have had all season. Its a happy time but a bit of a sad time to see all of you leave. When a group like you will come this way again may not happen for a long long time.
iluvsoccer | 1:37 p.m. Oct. 24, 2009
I agree!!! Best game I have ever seen!! Total respect to Ohai. She is the most talented and classy player I have ever watched. Rude fans yelling "over-rated" are going to eat a bunch of humble pie when this young lady makes an even bigger name for herself in college and beyond. And no, my kid doesn't go to Alta, she actually plays against Ohai and she has total respect for her as a great soccer player who can pretty much win a game on her own. Don't hate the player, hate the game. (or the refs which is okay :)
Anonymous | 1:52 p.m. Oct. 24, 2009
You know, in the beginning of the season someone was making some pretty sad blogs on this site, It really did cause a lot of suspicion on the Alta sideline. It was interesting to watch the reactions around the sidelines especially when the suspicions faded away and the parents become a support instead of mistrusting each other. It has become a great year and I am blogging to say thanks to the team and the sideline and may we keep up the positives towards are sideline and the other teams.

alexa pulley for all state!
Alta  | 3:24 p.m. Oct. 24, 2009
Alta's Kealia Ohai is simply one of if not the best player in the entire country and she deserves all the credit she has earned. But Alta had an amazing defense to compliment Ohai this charge led by Kelsea Godfrey and Tashia Long. This girls were silent but deadly while being overlooked by Ohai they never got the attention they deserved these girls are definite game changers and without them it wouldn't have been possible for Alta to win this title. DEFENSE WINS CHAMPIONSHIPS! Kelsea Godfrey for 5A MVP
Re:Alta | 3:42 p.m. Oct. 24, 2009
Unfortuneately in this country offensive players usually get more attention in "ALL" sports, than defensive players. Everyone knows who the great defensive players are and of course no one can win without them. Long and Godfrey are two of the best to ever play for Alta but don't blame Ohai for being an offensive player. If you want more attention play offense that's the best advice I can give you and that's wheather your a football player or a soccer player. I'm tired of people assuming that Ohai has done something wrong because shes a good OFFENSIVE player.

Long, Godfery and Ohai are all worthy to be this years MVP.

Big soccer fan | 10:35 p.m. Oct. 24, 2009
Ohai will be Miss Soccer, that will leave room for someone on Alta's team to be 5A MVP, good luck.
re: re anonymous  | 11:09 p.m. Oct. 24, 2009
I never said Alta didn't have talent. Alta obviously has talent! Davis had only 3 seniors play. Only 2 of them started. The 2 that started just have early birthdays. So they could be old juniors or young seniors. Both of the two young seniors play on U-17 La Roca teams, not U-18. The winning PK may have came from a sophmore, but 2 of Davis' goals came from two different sophmores. Scoring an actual goal is more impressive than scoring a PK. However, both teams will still be good next year! Like I said, both teams played great and made it entertaining!
Soccer Fan | 11:15 p.m. Oct. 24, 2009
Davis' Junior Katie Taylor had 22 goals and 24 assists - not bad...
Anonymous | 11:15 p.m. Oct. 24, 2009
The goal was called back for a foul. I saw the center ref this morning and I asked him about it and he said something off the ball was called. I saw the foul and agreed with him 100%. He is one of the best refs in Utah. Go Hawks. Congratulations on winning..once again. BEKAH WOODEN IS GOING TO BE MVP. Love you bekah

It is always hard to dethrone a champion untill somone does, I say Alta's the favorite next year to win it all.
Graystone | 2:09 a.m. Oct. 25, 2009
Every critic this year that has called Kealia Ohai overrated simply does not know sports. 4 state titles. 4. Not to mention over 100 goals in her career. Even as a freshman, she was the best player every time she stepped on the field. She's the best player to ever come through the state of Utah. All the opponents have said overrated or something stupid but when you win four state titles that speaks for itself
