Utah Jazz notes: Matthews' chance to stick looks good — or does it?
7 comments | Read story
Almond has been a late bloomer his entire career..i still think, given his shooting ability and his iq, he could be a long term player for the jazz
if Matthews sticks, lets hope he is not like his father, one of the all time head cases in the NBA
Sad to say that in order to do what you suggest it would have to imply the Jazz brass have some degree of insight. The last few years have proved that they cannot adapt to the post-stock and malone days.
We need another 3 point shooter "big time"
On Brent Barry:
Age 36
However, "why not"
Smart player, has a ring with San Antonio
3 point shooter from the corners who can bury them
Has size
That means because he is intelligent and can fill a role maybe it is a case (i hope not again)
that reason for not be signed
A threat to Jer and "His SLoanaholics"
ONE losing season. How many losing seasons did Chicago have after Jordan left - or Boston post-Bird or LA after Magic and before Shaq and Kobe?
KOC and Sloan have done a tremendous job rebuilding the team. True, Jazz have no championships, but part of that is demographics. Utah is not exactly a top destination for young, black men who want to party at strip clubs until 3:00 a.m.
I'm against signing a washed up vet. He'd come in cold, not knowing the system. Matthews is as good as some of mid-1st rounders. He's already a decent defender and has a ton of upside.
Who is KOC going to bring in, a Devin-Brown type player? Go with the young guy instead.
As for Mo Almond, c'mon, you can't be serious? A chucker that couldn't even make it in D'Antoni's run-and-gun system in NY. MO never passes. He's a terrible defender. He won't make it with any team until he changes his me-first attitude.
did you really just say that "young, black men" fresh out of college going to the NBA want to go to "party at strip clubs unitl 3:00 am" ??
That's a little, if not a whole lot, racist and very stereotypical.
Anyway I agree with you on wesley, he deserves a spot on our team. He played great in the preseason. He can defend, and he knocks down the open three.
Anyway I'm not opposed to bringing in a vet, especially one who can bring some leadership to our team. D-will and Booze are both lacking in that department, and partly the reason we made it to the Western Finals two years ago was because of a solid Vet by the name of Derick Fisher. He brought leadership that the jazz desperately needed and something we definitely need right now. Hopefully D-will and Booze will step up big time this year, because the jazz aren't signing anyone given their financial worries.
Don't let this man get away!
