From what I've read so far, this young man had been institutionalized after suffering a head injury in the rollover accident a couple of years past.

According to his siblings, they had been reduced to communicating with him as if he were a 5 year old child. His uncle states that he is in an almost constant state of confusion.

I doubt that he will be found competent to stand trial.

Scary photo! Just add horns and a pitchfork and he would look like he's in a devil costume.

So sad so many lifes changed forever. What caused this young man to do such a thing to his parents? If he were having mental problems why wasn't he given help? Hope that the other children can cope with this situation and be given the direction and help to do so.

Terribly sad

I certainly hope this young man lacks the capacity to ever comprehend the consequences of his actions. From early reports, it sounds like this is just a terrible tragedy caused by a mind damaged in an accident. This is just a horribly sad story for all involved.

so so sad.. this horrible crime will haunt the children that were home for the rest of their lifes.. May god bless them...

to Deborah:

You are brilliant.

More to the point

are there people in Castle Dale able to help the surviving kids?

To Debora

What about Brain Injury or other medical condition that can affect his thought process. After all he was in a terrible accident. What was his medical diagnosis after the accident?

Who does provide help in a situation where traumatic brain injuries (TBI) are present? Are there treatment facilities that are designed to care for our family members and friends that have had brain injuries either for short or long-term stays? Even the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) does not list TBI as a mental illness on its home web page. With many men returning home with brain injuries from Iraq and Afghanistan, it may be time for our state government to fund treatment facilities for TBI in our state. A Google search using "Utah traumatic brain injury" reveals a "Brain Injury Association of Utah" that has interesting facts, but I do not find any specialized treatment facilities for this devastating condition in our state. Unfortunately in our current economy, it will be difficult to organize these resources. Perhaps this is something that can be placed on an agenda and our brightest minds can start seeking solutions for this pervasive problem.

The community of Castle Dale is strong and compassionate. This family is well-known and beyond their own relatives, there is plenty of help and support for the Sharp children, including Peter.
