"This is a sad, tragic case," Peterson said. "Jail time is punishment that should not be imposed."

Tell that to the dead baby you sap! Forget jail, send this woman to prison and let her think about her choices their.

Her choices?

Many young and unwed women fear telling their parents about pregnancies. Many hide it from family and friends, opting not to seek prenatal care, or assistance in delivering their baby.

Not knowing anything much about this young woman's personal circumstances, how she was raised, what religious faith she was raised in, and how her parents were likely to react...I would have to say that she has already suffered the loss of her baby and I don't believe that prison time would solve anything.

Her choices, eh? Perhaps she would have chosen to abort the pregnancy in early stages...if she would have even had that option available to her.

I agree with her lawyer on this one. Nearly every day criminals get off with a slap on the wrist...and they walk out the door without serving a day.

This happened last year in July. She went into counseling, and she returned to school.

And now this sad excuse for a judge thinks it's a good idea to toss her in jail?

Apparently he doesn't understand how very difficult it will be for this young woman to find work anywhere in Utah after even a short stint of 15 days in jail.

I thank the powers that be that 'Idiot Laywer @ 5:23 isn't a judge.

you must be the lawyer. If you want to contrast your client against criminals why don't you do some comparisons as well and note that her baby is dead due to her actions and choices and she tried to cover it up. I suggest you take on a new profession.

She was 26 years old, not some helpless child. The fact the baby's father called the police, says alot.

One more story of how the law of chastity would solve some problems in society. I think we will catch up to the morals taught by the Savior some day. We are just slow as a society. Go to the root of the problem.

Jail time should definitely be imposed. This lady deserves to pay for what she did. Even if the baby was still born then she should have taken the proper actions with the body.

No. I am not this woman's lawyer. And I am not a lawyer by profession.

Yes. The baby died. But unless and until you know whether this child died in the womb, and was stillborn, or whether the baby was alive and viable when it was born, you cannot and should not assign absolute blame to this young woman for the death of her baby.

Does anyone here know this woman? Do you know her personal circumstances? Her mental state? Whether she is completely competent?

And for the Anonymous individual who mentioned that baby's father...where was he while this woman was carrying his child without his support, and without benefit of wedlock?

Perhaps, if he had 'done the right thing' and married the woman he had impregnated...she wouldn't have felt compelled to keep the pregnancy secret.

Does anyone here know the father? Is he a single man? A married man? Did he, or did he not know that she was carrying his child? Had she asked him to marry her?

There are too many unanswered questions.
