Who would've thought a public official would do something shadey? (and get caught)
Conflict of interest issues have been obvious from the beginning. Addressing the situation is long overdue.
On a lighter note - Don't you think Hatch has been in the Senate long enough? The Hatch Act of 1939, for crying out loud!!
This whole brouhaha is nothing more than a hatchet attack, not a Hatch Act violation. This is about Representative Neil Hansen's daughter getting a traffic ticket and Neil Hansen NOT getting special treatment in getting the ticket "fixed." Hansen is the guy behind the complaint. That's public info, why not report on it? Hansen ran for mayor and lost. He wanted a new police chief, presumably one without the integrity to hold people accountable.
Representative Hansen has wasted the time of the legislature for several years running with his never-get-out-of-the-gate bill to ban citation quotas. I support banning quotas, but he wanted to ban police accountability. None of this started before his daughter got the ticket. He even paraded her before the legislature as an example of someone who committed several violations and was cited by police when a state legislator was in the car! Holding a representative accountable. What a concept! Jon Greiner is an American military hero and a fine person. This scurrilous attack is baseless.
If you do the crime, you do the time.
Why does the chief think that he doesn't have to follow the rules?
Law enforcement officers must held to a high standard of compliance or we lose respect for them. They should be above reproach because of the greater authority that they have.
Wasn't Greiner one of the FEW police chiefs in Utah also that agreed to at least TRY to enforce illegal immigration laws?
Greiner is a good Chief. He should resign his seat in the legislature to remove all doubts about a conflict. Otherwise, resign as chief. Personally, I think it is harder to find a good chief than a run-of-the-mill legislator.
Rep. Hansen had nothing to do with the Hatch Act complaint against Chief Greiner. The above comment is a lie. I know because I was the complainant on behalf of myself and the Utah Democratic Party. Rep. Hansen had no knowledge that the complaint was even being considered when it was filed three years ago.
Jon Greiner is a very good senator and based on what I know of him, I'm sure he is a good chief. This is a misuse of the Hatch Act and he should be allowed to serve in both capacities.
