wow, this is gonna be a tough game for BYU but best of luck to them and have BYU play liked they played against UNLV and sandeigo.

GO cougs

im the first to coment by the way

Harold

Of course he will return.

BYU has historically shown little regard for the health of its players when a big game is on the line.

hmmm

that's why unga played against oklahoma, right harold?

"BYU has historically shown little regard for the health of its players when a big game is on the line."

Any facts to back this up or are you just a disgruntled ute fan who regularly throws out random conclusions without any support?

Bad Idea

Pulled hamstrings are not to be trifled with. One of the most finicky of injuries. Not like a sprained ankle you can play through or just walk off.

Hamstring injuries need to be babied, coddled, eased along. Hamstring injuries tend to recur during explosive movement (exactly like Mr Jacobson would see every time he accelerated when running routes at his WR position.

Returning for TCU, while commendable on Mr Jacobson's part, is not a good career move for McKay. Save your leg, and your NFL career, and wait until you're ready. Don't let Bronco or rabid BYU fans push you into returning before you're ready.

Touche! There always has to be a Harold doesn't there? So sad!

Old Weird Harold

The Ute troll makes an appearance.

So that's why they kept Harvey Unga out of the big Oklahoma game, right?

Ya know, the more I think of it the more I think Harold is actually a BYU fan intent on making Ute fans look more stupid than they are.

Even UteFan is not this clueless about football.

Will

Harold has returned to blogging before he has recovered, why not McKay?

Minnesota Cougar

Way to go Jacobson. Good luck for the rest of the season.

If McKay is not

at full speed he is not helpful other than as a decoy for a couple of plays. If he is ready he will run as fast as he ever has. If he is not then the other receivers will run his routes better.

The stats suggest that BYU may want to get as much balance as they can from the running game. If BYU is one dimensional and TCU knows it is a pass it is going to be a brutal game of strength on strength. TOs will go up.

The key is to exploit the TCU weaknesses on both offense and defense.

McNasty

Good job on the rankings of BYU's offense and TCU's defense. However, the game will be determined by BYU's defense against TCU's offense. I predict that TCU's defense will not stop BYU's offense as effectively as most prognosticators believe. The overall, detailed numbers do not substantiate this belief. For example, the average power rating of TCU's opponents played is 0.547 (highest power ranking being 1.00); that of Oklahoma's opponents played is 0.675. Moreover, Oklahoma's defense has held its 6 opponents to 58 total points whereas TCU has held its 6 opponents to 82 total points. Oklahoma has played 4 teams with winning records (3 in the top 20 currently). TCU has played 1 team with a winning record (Air Force). TCU's defense is consistently good. BYU's defense has been a Jekyll and Hyde. If Jekyll shows up BYU will win. Weather (rain), altitude and temperature, plus field conditions are all incalculable factors as well. The FSU game was an unfortunate abberation so don't count on it as a true indicator. The greedy Las Vegas bookies aren't (56% TCU, 44% BYU). Go Cougs!

I hope he's back

I still remember David Nixon playing like his hair was on fire in 2006 down in Texas. I would like to see another Texas Native who wants to show up the home town team go at full strength.

ClassOf93

It's unlikely that the deep pass, where Jacobson's speed when healthy, will be a significant part of BYU's game plan. TCU's pass rush won't allow enough time for the play to develop. I agree that if McKay is not 100%, the injury is just to likely to reoccur for it to be worth it. As far as a decoy goes, unfortunately an injured Pitta wasn't much of a decoy in the Utah game last year.

Boozer

Hey Jake, my advice to you is to not come back until you're totally healthy...say spring ball of 2011!

Jimbo

Jacobson needs to stop hurting himself while stretching. That is a little pathetic.

The Real Harold

I don't think the guy listed as Harold is really named Harold. Being one of the few Harolds left in this world (my first name is actually Harold), I can spot a wannabe Harold when I read his ridculous comment. And you, sir, are no Harold!

Go cougs!

Wonky

Boozer, lol.

BleedCougarBlue

McKay, appreciate the desire but please don't return unless you're 100%. Agreed, you might make a good decoy coming into the game a time or two but if you can't sprint FULL OUT and sustain it, like WRs need to do, the Cougars are better off with a backup who can.

Plus, we still have to play Utah.

Don't push it too hard.

BYU 31 - TCU 27

LouisD

In the Numbers, Virginia #107, TYexas State the FCS adjusted equivalent to #96, Clemson #95, SMU #71, Air Force #83, Colorado State #81...those are the NCAA rankings of the offensive teams #4 TCU has faced this year. Not that TCU isn't great defensively, but then who (offensive teams) have they played to date? Average opponent rank = #84.

BYU has faced four lousy offensive teams as well, but has also faced the #17, 20 and 27 ranked offenses in the nation. Average opponent rank = #57.

The point is, TCU is great defensively, but how great? BYU will be their first real test. BYU on the other hand has always given up more yardage because of blowout wins (exception FSU), but stuffed Oklahoma regardless of who was QB. OU was supposedly going to run roughshod over BYU and they couldn't. Before everyone hands TCU the game ball, I think BYU will have much to say about it. Given the same level of opposition BYU would ALSO be undefeated and rank in the top 10 nationally in Defense.

It's worth remembering!

The Problem

McKay is a competitor. He only knows one speed.
If he needs to shift up to make a catch or beat a DB he will likely reinjure the hamstring and be out the rest of the season.

A less than full speed Jacobson is no good to our gameplan. Even a short route requires some explosive speed for separation.

Blowing out a hamstring vs. TCU and ruining the rest of your college/NFL career is not worth it. Sit, young man. Think!
