Congratulations to the teams and especially the coaches, Bruno and Timo. Well deserved after all the time and heart you put into helping the student athletes over the years.

More than just 5A | 1:39 p.m. Oct. 22, 2009
There are more than just 5A schools in the state. Why no mention of any other classes?
Last Year | 2:43 p.m. Oct. 22, 2009
All I can remember from last year is hearing about that girl getting disqualified for rolling her shorts. I still have a bad taste in my mouth about those officials. They have seemed to forget of the purpose of high school athletics.

Way to go Austin and Danielle! You guys are incredible!

Please tell me you're not serious.

Please.

This was an incredible race. Everyone expected 4A to be the big show yesterday, it turned out to be the exact opposite! 5A absolutely dominated yesterday in the overall results. 3 and 4a are usually a little more comparable... not this year. Congrats to everyone, great race.
Bruno Coach of the Year?? | 8:08 p.m. Oct. 22, 2009
Building a team from only 5 runners 20 years ago, Bruno has built AFHS CC team into a CC powerhouse. They have been a presence to be noticed every year since. Bruno here is to you, you deserve this, enjoy the moment!! And keep up the awesome coaching you have inspired many kids through the years!
P.S. Where was the coach of the year award???!!! After all the years of watching it go to Mt. View just for winning. Here you have a Coach who only thinks of his athletes not the trophy and you don't recognize hime!!!!!
Anonymous | 8:43 p.m. Oct. 22, 2009
There hasn't been a Coach of the Year award given for about 10 years.
Ryan | 9:03 p.m. Oct. 22, 2009
Hats off to AF. I've been participating in or watching Utah High School XC for the past ten years, and that's one of the strongest team performances I've seen since in a long time - Clearly the class of the state and hopefully headed to Nike Team Nationals. Good luck guys - Congrats to Timo.
Erin  | 9:39 p.m. Oct. 22, 2009
Great job to Alexis and the cross country team!!! We love you!!!
Re: More than just 5A | 12:03 a.m. Oct. 23, 2009
If you look at the whole sports section, there was a whole separate article dedicated to the 4A race and Mountain View sweeping up those titles, and probably other articles on there for the other classes as well.

As for AF, great job everyone! Way to give the school and us alumni runners something more to be proud of. Stay healthy and keep it up at regionals and nationals.
Classy Coach | 8:56 a.m. Oct. 23, 2009
Comments given by Coach Hunziker are just plain classy no credit to himself all to the community and school. Now that is class that sports now a days are missing.
Amy | 9:07 p.m. Oct. 23, 2009
I've known Coach Hunziker all my life and he is so humble. He really cares about others. He dedicates his life to helping others feel good and achieve their potential. Even if others think it can't be done he believes that it can. He has helped so many over the years and everyone who knows him comes away a better person. He truly deserves seeing his team do so well. Thanks Dad for all you do for everyone.
XC Coach | 10:53 p.m. Oct. 23, 2009
I'd like to echo the previous comments about Timo, Bruno and the AF Teams. The Girl/Boy championship combination was probably the most dominating by one school in 5A history. And it wouldn't have happened without the years of hard work and commitment of two class coaches. And, the hard work of some great athletes. Congratulations!!!

Nice race Meg. Way to work for it and then give it your all. Very proud.

American Fork's Alexis Laws charges up the first hill in the 5A girls race. The Cavemen had a banner day, sweeping the titles for both the boys and girls at Sugarhouse Park.
