Cudos to Obama | 12:07 p.m. Oct. 21, 2009
I'm glad to see that Obama is willing to commit significant money towards Spying (which I feel is critical to our security).

One observation:
I have a suspicion that if anyone ELSE (like George Bush) had done this... there would be a LOT of whinin and complainin from the Left by now.

I think it's important for the government to know what's going on (that means spying). I thought that during the Bush Administration (when the LEFT was fighting against it bitterly) and I'm for it now (when the LEFT are the ones doing it).

When there's EVIDENCE that the spying is being used for political purposes (which it hasn't in either case) then... We need to restrict it. But we shouldn't be restricting it just to play political games and make sure the President from the OTHER side doesn't get what he feels he needs to do his job (defend us).

This looks like a project for a state with a higher unemployment rate than Utah. Senator Hatch would surely vote for that since he is against the unemployed. I wish someone would introduce a bill to cease the health benefits and life time pay for the senators and congressmen after their time in office.

Cudos, I'm sorry you fail to understand there are Americans who value our liberties more than any promise of security. I realize conservative don't get this idea. There was that study of the mental illness of conservatism that showed conservative frighten easier.

I'm a veteran and I used to climb in Yosemite. I don't do fear that well.

Noah Brunty

Are you always this grumpy and vindictive?

Utah doesn't deserve the project because our unemployment isn't high enough?

Senator Hatch is AGAINST the unemployed?

You wish for people to LOSE their health insurance?

That doesn't sound very nice. I thought liberals were nice and wanted good things for EVERYONE.

Think about what you're saying before you disprove the people trying to teach us that liberals are the nice, tolerant, caring, loving, good guys.

So much for conserving power. It was reported that this building will require power roughly equal to that used by all of Salt Lake City.

Really, this place should get its own small nuclear reactor to power it off of the regular grid. I'm being serious here. Aircraft carriers have them after all. And the trip to Energy Solutions is just down the road to dispose of the waste. Just please use the backroads through the west desert to ship it and keep it off of I-15.

I believe Utah is a great place for an 'intelligence center' like this. We have the talent. We have the space. We need the jobs. Ask anyone which state has the highest percentage of underpaid and/or underemployed professionals! Our state needs the tax revenue so we can lower our ever-climbing property taxes and reduce (or eliminate) the sales tax on food and clothing. If you are afraid of change, I suggest you simply move to the moon where not much has changed for centuries!

I can't imagine one building consuming more elctricity that all of Salt Lake City, but your point on Nuclear Power is not that far fetched.

I remember when Micron was deciding the build their huge plant in Lehi one of the selling points was that West Lehi was one of the best locations in the valley to build a Nuclear Power Plant (because of the huge water supply underground several times larger than Utah lake which is constantly replenished by runnoff from the surrounding mountains and the rivers and high water table in that area).

As you pointed out... they are also not far from the waste treatment plant in Clive, so no material would have to travel on I-15 or ANY highway.
