Anyone who doubts that Anderson is slowly building something special in Logan (okay, building something considerably better that what's been there there past three decades) is not paying attention. Go Aggies!!
He | 10:01 p.m. Oct. 20, 2009
is the best player on PG's Team. USU just got the best D1 play PG has to offer and Hart is a much better QB than lloyd.
Go USU | 10:12 p.m. Oct. 20, 2009
The new coaching staff seems to be great. I just hope that they can recruit some extremely great linemen to protect the new investments. The line has been overmatched in all of the games so far, they wouldn't even run Turbin. The ags need some serious size increase. I bleed blue, navy blue that is. Go Aggies

Atta boy Jason! I love that the Goon Killa is going to be an Aggie!
Congrats to you and your family! Maybe in a couple years, Big B will be joining you?!?
Congrats again and best of luck!
Re:Go USU | 10:42 p.m. Oct. 20, 2009
Spot on assessment, in fact it may sound over zealous but I would put the Aggie skill players up against the Y's anyday. Look at Curtis, Cooley, Carty, Turbin, White and the list goes on. However where the separation seems to be quite WIDE is at the lines, offense and defense.

The O Line in particular always seems so small in comparison. The D Line is pretty much the same thing. We have had pretty good linebackers come through but tell me the last D or O lineman that really was a BIG time difference maker . . . yeah not much to speak of is there.

It is no doubt where we have to improve if we want to be true players in the WAC scene. That comes way before being competitive with our in-state rivals.

As a tribute to the Y and U we indeed have a ways to go to catch up to them, we need to be competitive in the WAC first, the rest will follow.

re: HE Aggie4Life | 10:50 p.m. Oct. 20, 2009
Nice comment. Way to try and bring QB's into the matter-isnt this an article about Fanaka? But since you brought it up there was no one even close to PG's QB in summer camps and workouts from Utah. Hence the 15 or so D1 offers for the PG kid and noone else in Utah was offered (except Alts's from a JC I believe). We are thrilled getting Hart since Lloyd turned us down when offered months ago. I look for Hart and Manning to battle in the future.

Great get in this PG Fanaka. He is big and can catch. USU will be back, and the 3 year rebuilding plan is starting to pick up momentum.

Welcome to the family Jason!

Go Aggies!

Aggie Watcher | 8:35 a.m. Oct. 21, 2009
Great hearing about the new commitments for the Aggies. Offensive and Defensive lineman are the most sought after players every year, if you don't believe that do some research. Most teams in the country have to develop those positions and the Aggies will get this done with hard working kids who will develop under this coaching staff. Thanks for the info D-News. Keep it up Aggies!!
Las Vegas Aggie | 8:36 a.m. Oct. 21, 2009
Uath State is a great palce to go to college, none better in the intermountian west.
Now we have a football coach that is going to do the same thing that Stew has done for Basketball life is going to be even better.
Keep the great instate players coming peppered in with a few D1 players from out of state to create a great mix, thanks for the direction GA.
Re: Re:GO USU | 8:55 a.m. Oct. 21, 2009
You're right. The line's size on both sides of the ball was an issue Saturday in the second half with their loss to Nevada.
Utah State picked up big 6'8" Bryce Walker from Pleasant Grove to beef up their O Line. Sounds like they're moving in the right direction to me.
Way to go Jason. We are proud of you and can't wait to watch USU's rise to the top!
re: Las Vegas | 9:03 a.m. Oct. 21, 2009
If you're meaning any place in N. Utah and the local Idaho/Wyoming area, you're right. There are way nicer places in the much larger Rocky Mountain area than USU and you can get a far better education. Even Colorado is a far better place. Much more to see and do.
I was Hoping for this one | 9:07 a.m. Oct. 21, 2009
Great commit! I love the upside of this kid and the impact that he will have on Aggie FB. Great article. (Bloggers need to leave the QB out of it he's not a starter yet)
Building a program | 9:25 a.m. Oct. 21, 2009
Anderson is smart enough to know that the only way of rebuilding not only the Aggie football program, but also the Aggie fan base, is to include a good-sized number of local talent.

Relying almost strictly on California imports for recruits makes it nearly impossible for Utah State to increase the size of their already small fan base.
Mars | 9:38 a.m. Oct. 21, 2009
Awesome.

We'll be there screaming our guts out for you, Jason. Make us proud!

Go Aggies!!!

Congrats Jason! Hart will love to throw to you. USU is right, the Aggies need to grab some other horses from PG and around the state as well. Keep em coming coach A you have a great start. To comment HE: Keep your dumb comments trying to bash Lloyd to yourself. None of us want to hear it. Jason, great job you are well deserving. What an experience of a lifetime!
Sneaky Jimmy | 9:43 a.m. Oct. 21, 2009
There should be plenty of farm boys from No Utah/So. Idaho that could take up space on the line. Anderson is just what the Aggies need.
Aggie HYPE | 9:49 a.m. Oct. 21, 2009
Alex Hart is one of the TOP recruits in the country??????

According to Rivals he isn't even rated and is no where to be found in the top 150 QB's in the country who are rated.......

THE DNEWS hypes everything...from Obamacare to HS Football....try having a little integrity like FOX NEWS!
Re: Las Vegas | 10:06 a.m. Oct. 21, 2009
I couldn't agree more! There isn't a better college experience, or any nicer places than at USU and Cache Valley! Those early instate recruits are telling their friends and the word is out! GO AGGIES!
Better Education? | 10:33 a.m. Oct. 21, 2009
USU has more research funds than the U or Y. USU has the best University community in the state.

Having graduated from USU and earning a graduate degree from the University of Texas I have had the best of both worlds. Logan is an incredible place to find yourself and to receive a quality education that will take you wherever you want to go. Aggies compete very well in the world.
My my my.... | 11:09 a.m. Oct. 21, 2009
Just another one of the D1 recruits PG had against LP...now can you stop making excuses?! I think that puts you guys up to 9 or so....clearly you can beat LP who has maybe 1...oh wait......
Knowwhat | 11:12 a.m. Oct. 21, 2009
Why isn't any of the aggie fans spouting off about Anderson's kid that he signed out of Juan Diego. He has got to be a top recruit in the nation too.
re:Aggie HYPE | 11:51 a.m. Oct. 21, 2009
Get over yourself. Since when has any news outlet in the state over-hyped the Aggies? I believe the statements about Hart have all called him one of the top recruits in the "state" not the "country". Utah only produces a "top in the country" recruit once every four years, like leap year for football. No one is delusional enough to believe that a quarterback who passes for more yards than just about every other quarterback in the country suddenly becomes a blue chipper and the top recruit in the nation.

For the posters that insist on putting down these high school athletes, schools etc. Why don't you grow up or just stay off here?
This looks like another great pickup for USU. Congrats to Jason and any other kid who works their butt off for years to get a school to pay THEM for their education! GO AGGIES!!

Wow some of these posts are funny.. Smack talk in high school sports?! Who even cares.

Congrats on going to Utah State man! Good luck up there!

Congrats to both Jason and to the Aggies on landing this stud TE...he's going to fit nicely with Alex Hart and some of the other region 4 kids going to USU. He always seems to be in the right spot for Lloyd and blocks well. I'm looking forward to watching PG play again on Friday v Alta, should be a good one to see.
re: My , My my... | 1:48 p.m. Oct. 21, 2009
Wow. Lone Peak. Isnt it funny? I guess you have been waiting for 8 years to go on every blog to tell the world you finally beat PG. This Senior Age group--PG/Lindon has pummelled you into a pulp in 5th, twice in 6th, twice in 7th, twice in 8th and you lost in Championship, Freshman for the Cougar Confernce 9th Grade Championship, Soph, JV and you finally win when Sefa and Lloyd are out, and Heder has a broken hand and Owens shoulders arent right etc..not excuses just facts.

I got $500 and we can meet if we play each other in the Semis (if both get there)that LP cant beat PG healthy. They never have. They never will. They won this year once against a team that wasnt healthy missing key players that will be back. Enough LP-deep down you know.

BTW...who is the toughest kid around? Fanaika. Not only is he a beast but a great kid and football player. USU got a true, hard nosed football player. He is a gamer. Congratulations.
Me, Myself and I | 1:49 p.m. Oct. 21, 2009
Congrats to Jason and USU. Coach Andersen and his staff are world class. You made a good choice Jason!!!
football fan | 3:04 p.m. Oct. 21, 2009
I had to jump in! Why are other players being brought into an article about a Tight End? I will say this again, the Utah State coaches know more than all of us! This kid is a heck of a player and that is why he is getting a college education!
TexMex | 5:37 p.m. Oct. 21, 2009
Man too bad this kid is going to play for a consistent loser and bottom-dweller for 4 years.
Rude People! | 5:57 p.m. Oct. 21, 2009
I am so sick of these RUDE people who put down Utah high school althletes. Maybe DN should stop allowing comments or monitor them more closely.
*Congrats to ALL of the high school boys, and teams!
Win or Lose, D1 signed or not signed, ALL of them should be reconized for their commitment; hard work; and effort.
Ags got PG's best player | 6:22 p.m. Oct. 21, 2009
Pleasant Grove might have seven or eight D1 players on their roster, and I've watched them all season, but Utah State got the best of the bunch. Fanaika is by far the best player the Vikings have.
Re Ags got PG's best | 7:59 p.m. Oct. 21, 2009
I like Jason too, but Lloyd is what makes this team go. Sorry, but lloyd is the class of this team
good job | 10:13 p.m. Oct. 21, 2009
Nice job USU, thank you for recruiting local kids! We love it!
Prep fan | 9:16 a.m. Oct. 22, 2009
Gary Anderson is doing a great recruiting job. He got the Mattinson kid, 6-4 240 receiver, out of Spanish Fork, Hart and I think he got the receiver out of Timpview. Now he needs to get some O-linemen to solidify a good offense.
plyxply | 10:00 a.m. Oct. 22, 2009
and don't forget about Hauskneckt the lb from Alta, the kid is big, fast, smart, and hits like a truck. USU is doing a great job picking up quality kids and now they've got a tv package that we can all see (unlike the MWC) them play on.
Better Education? | 11:42 a.m. Oct. 22, 2009
That's a real stretch. Look at the ACTs compared to other Utah schools.
Re: Better Education | 1:14 p.m. Oct. 22, 2009
There is no stretch here. The ACT of the incoming students has nothing to do with the quality of the teachers. I spent time at USU and the U. The profs at USU were much more involved with undergrads than at the U. There were many opportunities to get involved in research as an undergrad and the profs seemed to see teaching as an important part of their role. At the U, teaching seemed to be an afterthought. The profs were there to get published only and teach a class if they had to (putting out as little effort as possible). This is just my experience, but you tell me in which of these two environments you would get a better education.
Justin | 7:10 p.m. Oct. 22, 2009
Let's be honest, if someone goes to Utah, Utah State or BYU they're going to get an education that will make them very competitive. Also, each school has different focuses for education. I don't get the arguments about one school giving better education than the others. Utah State is strong in engineering, education, and many others. The School of Business is becoming very strong too since it became the Jon M. Huntsman School of Business. Utah has great professional schools. BYU has great business and law programs. They all do very well at what they do. Would you all like to know where you will definitely get the best education in the state? I'll give you the definite answer: it depends on what you're doing.

On topic, Utah State is getting some great recruits and Andersen is the man. I'm still worried about the lines though. Utah State has had fantastic specialty players in the past, but a lot of the problems have come from horrible lines. This TE recruit is exciting.
Great Recruits | 8:04 a.m. Oct. 23, 2009
These recruits would probably not even turn the heads of any other school besides lowly USU. What is USU ranked? Oh, yeah dead last of all FBS teams!

Not many recruits want to land themselves at the bottom of the pecking order. USU is their last desparate chance to play football in college or earn scholarship. Even some of the FCS schools could beat USU for recruits.

I don't see USU getting any better with these type of recruits. Don't believe me read about them on Rivals.com. Sure USU can get a diamond in the rough once in awhile, but as history shows the majority of USU recruits don't amount to very much.

And another thing, how is it the Moscow Idaho has a great team and USU doesn't? If Andersen was such a great coach where are your W's? I just see a whole lot of losses and zero improvement in the stat column.

I'm just trying to be real. Sometimes you just have to have someone tell you like it really is and burst that bubble.

RE: Great Recruits | 3:10 p.m. Oct. 23, 2009
Sounds like someone's a little bitter that they couldn't play anywhere. Moscow Idaho is in the third year of rebuilding. You're comparing apples to oranges. Come back in two years for that argument to be valid.

If you really see zero improvement in the stat column, you need to look again. Averaging 400+ yards per game on offense isn't bad, especially compared to last year. Average margin of defeat down. More points scored. True, the W's haven't been coming in droves, but to say there is no improvement shows that you know nothing about USU football, or football in general. Just trying to be real. Sorry to tell you like it is and burst your bubble.
RE: RE: Great Recruits | 3:54 p.m. Oct. 23, 2009
Thank you for setting him straight. I love how people who have probably never played the game get on these and talk down to high school kids that work there tails off to get school paid for by playing a sport they love. Way to try to knock someone down. USU is a great school and they are doing great things up there. I went to 2 USU games this year and the whole place has a different feeling about it already. Coach A is doing great things starting w/in state recruits. Jason great job! I couldn't be happier for you.

Go Jordan, beat Brighton!
SJ Bobkins | 1:28 a.m. Oct. 24, 2009
Jared, you pay too much attention to coaching "HYPE"

"one of the nation's top quarterbacks, Alex Hart of Jordan High"

Alex is a fine, young man and an excellent QB. I wish him all the luck in the world, but he IS NOT one of the top QB's in the country. Reading from Scout.com, Hart is rated a commendable #110, but he is NOT one of the best high school QB's in the USA. Next up you're going to be telling us that USU can still make it to your predicted bowl game, and that the Uggies, the team that put a real hurtin' on SUU are much improved.
