Does anyone know what time the game is on Friday?
BHS Fan | 8:29 p.m. Oct. 20, 2009
Good job Hawks! Glad to see you guys win... Too bad we didn't make it to play you guys in the final like last year. Anyway, beat Davis and show them what we've got in Region 4! Good luck on Friday!!!!

That Ohai girl really knows how to get it done. She seems like a real team player, and despite her individual successes- she appears equally as determined to win for her team. Every team needs a super star that actually cares more about their team winning, than their own stats. She's the real deal.
Re: Anonymous | 9:49 p.m. Oct. 20, 2009
I watched this girl play for the first time today and I was impressed of how unselfish she is. I agree that a player with this type of talent cares so much about her team and not just her. Other talented players should learn from her and her success thus far. Kealia girl, you are what every coach looks for, keep up the hard work and good luck friday and in your future:)
Freemont/Alta Fan | 10:28 p.m. Oct. 20, 2009
What a class group from coaches to players, they played with skill and heart, no dirty play. A very well coached team that battled to the end and will be very tough in the future. Thanks for a great game Freemont, good luck next year.
Soccer Fan | 10:34 p.m. Oct. 20, 2009
It's about time Davis is in the final too bad it's not against Fremont. It's always about Brighton and Alta and look who had the most teams from region one go to the play offs this year. Fremont played an awesome game against Alta and it should be Fremon against Davis this year. Go Davis it's your year, your team is packed with so much talent and next year will be just as good. Davis never gets credit where credit is due.
Re: Soccer Fan | 12:24 a.m. Oct. 21, 2009
Maybe Davis should accomplish something first before they're due any credit.
From A Neutral Perspective | 12:58 a.m. Oct. 21, 2009
I have seen Alta win the past three State championships and have been very impressed by their performances over the years. Having said that, I must say that I was impressed with the way Fremont played today. They passed the ball better than Alta and were more composed on the ball. In my honest opinion, I must say that even though Alta have the best individual girl soccer player in the state, Fremeont were the better team today. I would be interested to know what other neutral fans who were at the game think.
RE: Soccer Fan | 7:08 a.m. Oct. 21, 2009
The only reason Region 1 had the most teams in the playoffs is that the UHSSA allows your region to have 5 spots. It should be 4 from each region.
Re: Soccer Fan | 7:57 a.m. Oct. 21, 2009
Region 1 had more teams qualify (5)because that's the number of teams dictated by UHSAA. The remaining 11 teams in the playoffs are divided among regions 2,3,and 4 on a rotating basis from year to year.
re:RE: Soccer Fan | 7:08 a.m.  | 8:23 a.m. Oct. 21, 2009
The reason Region 1 had three teams in this last round was because they earned it by beating the teams in front of them each week. If Davis takes state than they will deserve it, just as if Alta takes state they deserve it. There's no bias in a Playoff system. You win and go on, or lose and go home. Good luck to Davis and Alta! You both derserve to play in this game and may the best team win.
another neutral fan | 8:27 a.m. Oct. 21, 2009
I was very impressed with the game between Fremont and Alta. I also thought that Fremont passed the ball better than Alta and that Fremont also played more as a team. Kealia is an amazing player, good luck to her in the future, I am sure we will see her on the national team.
Observation  | 8:39 a.m. Oct. 21, 2009
That was a great game yesterday. It was so good that half the Alta players on the field decided to watch it and not play it.

That said, the center mids for Freemont were excellent and controlled the game.
Re:from a neutral perspective | 8:39 a.m. Oct. 21, 2009
I agree Fremont was the better team. Fremont controlled the ball the entire match. Fremont dominated the midfield. If Davis was watching, and they were, they should look to exploit the weakness of the Alta midfield.
Alta Hawks  | 9:03 a.m. Oct. 21, 2009
Great job Alta. Next time make it easier on yourselves and get the ball to TC. She will be THE ONE to carry you. TC - we are so proud of you - GREAT job! Can't wait to see you save the game again this Friday. Your the best. GO ALTA - get another ring.
Great Game | 9:06 a.m. Oct. 21, 2009
The game between Alta and Fremont was amazing. I have never enjoyed a game as much as I did this one. Both teams played well. Fremont is a young team, I am sure we will see them in the state playoffs again next year. Good luck to both teams in the future.
Gonna be a nail biter | 9:15 a.m. Oct. 21, 2009
I predict a thrillling Davis 3-2 Alta game.
# ot team in state | 9:24 a.m. Oct. 21, 2009
Alignment last for four years. So over the next four years this is what will happen in 5A for playoffs.

Region 1: 9 teams X 4 years = 36 possible playoff teams. 5 teams a year make playoffs for a total of 20. This would be 56% of the teams.

Region 2: 7 teams X 4 years = 28 possible playoff teams. 4 teams will make it 3 years and 3 teams will make it 1 year for a total of 15 teams. This would be 54% of the teams.

Region 3: 6 teams X 1 year & 7 teams X 3 years = 27 possible playoff teams. 4 make it 2 years and 3 make it 2 years. This would be 52% of the teams.

Region 4: Same as region 2

Region 1: 56%
Region 2: 54%
Region 3: 52%
Region 4: 54%

Any changes you make would make the % worse not better. So overall the UHSAA did it the best they can with the region sizes being different (that is there fault though).

Also UHSAA is not a pro league, so yes it should be equal for each region. Even though some are better then others in different sports.
come on | 9:26 a.m. Oct. 21, 2009
Hey Fremont Fans, last I checked, the team with the most points at the end of the game is the winner. Yes you dominated the mid field but you only had four shots on goal the whole game. This is not a possession drill. Its not about who passes the ball the most. Its about who creates the most opportunities in the offensive third. In the game yesterday, Alta clearly created these opportunities.
James | 9:38 a.m. Oct. 21, 2009
Alta over Davis 2-0
Bonneville over Timp 3-2
PrepFootballFan | 9:39 a.m. Oct. 21, 2009
The UHSAA could plan things a little better. Alta's football team is playing for the region championship at the exact same time on Friday @ PG. Nice going UHSAA! I for one would like to attend both games and of course that won't be possible.
Neutral | 10:21 a.m. Oct. 21, 2009
Fremont FOR SURE played a better game than Alta did...but Alta was asleep and was totally off for half the game...wake up girls and play a stronger game on Friday.
RE:Alta Hawks | 10:27 a.m. Oct. 21, 2009
Tell me exactly how TC has ever won a game for Alta who ever TC is?.
re:come on | 10:32 a.m. Oct. 21, 2009
Hey Alta Fan. If you created the most opportunites, why is it you could only get one shot past the Fremont keeper, and that was in double overtime. Maybe you are not as good as you think you are.
All you neutral perspective fans | 10:36 a.m. Oct. 21, 2009
I didn't see the game but by your "Neutral Observation' I can't understand how in the world could Alta have possably won this game. It sounds like Freemont was so over whelmingly better there is no way Alta won. Or could it be your not as neutral as you say.
Re: # ot team in state | 9:24 a. | 10:56 a.m. Oct. 21, 2009
The math is fine but the application stinks. It reminds me of being 'school smart' but having NO common sense.

I propose that UHSAA give 4 guaranteed spots to Region 1 and 3 guaranteed spots to Regions 2,3, and 4 every year. Give out the remaining 3 spots to teams that have the most points earned overall against 5A competition. This will eliminate those schools that get in with losing records just because their region has allotted spots. It will reward the best teams that might get left out otherwise.
Re: Prepfootball | 11:05 a.m. Oct. 21, 2009
Too bad you aren't from Region 1.

Davis changed their football game to 3:00 so that the student body could head down to Rio Tinto for the Kickoff at 7:00.
re James | 11:11 a.m. Oct. 21, 2009
maybe, but
Bonneville over Timp 5-1
Re:Prep football fan | 11:15 a.m. Oct. 21, 2009
I feel your pain, the football players wanted to see the soccer game and the soccer players wanted to see the football game. Playing at Rio Tinto is not worth missing either game. Too bad for those that support each program.
Logic | 11:22 a.m. Oct. 21, 2009
Brighton tied Alta
Viewmont beat Brighton
Davis beat Viewmont 3 times (easily)
ipso facto
Viewmont is better than Alta
Davis will have no trouble with a weak Alta team.
On James' predictions | 11:30 a.m. Oct. 21, 2009
Honestly, my three year old could pick better!
(see previous picks below)

James | 1:34 p.m. Oct. 15, 2009
5-A
Davis over Lone peak 2-0
Brighton over Viewmont 2-0
Alta over Layton 2-0
upset special Bingham over Fremont 2-1 OT

4-A
Lehi over Snow Canyon 3-1
Bonneville over East 1-1 (Lakers win shootout)
Bountiful over Timp 3-2
Woods Cross over Springville 4-2

Here we go!!
Anonymous | 11:43 a.m. Oct. 21, 2009
Ohai hasn't always been a team player. She was forced to play that way this year when teams began man-marking her. I'm glad she learned this habit because it has made her that much more of a better player. Good luck Davis...kick butt!
re prepfootballfan | 11:44 a.m. Oct. 21, 2009
I agree! That is horrible planning. Why anyone would schedule a playoff final the same night as football games is crazy! I too would like to attend the soccer final, but cannot because of football games. Didn't anyone realize they were splitting the fan base? And I am sorry but most people are going to go to the football games. Totally unfair to the soccer girls! Maybe someone with a brain should do the scheduling next year?
RE: Logic  | 11:54 a.m. Oct. 21, 2009
Wow your right...let's not play the soccer game and go to the football game. If your so logical you would know that logic means nothing in a state game. Alta could very easily say 3 in a row logic would say 4. The Brighton tie was on senior day. Enough said.
davis | 11:58 a.m. Oct. 21, 2009
the football game is changed to 3 so they can all make it down to rio tinto in time for the soccer game at 7. how's that for planning?
Re:Logic | 12:01 p.m. Oct. 21, 2009
Layton beat Davis 3-0, Fremont beat Davis last week, Alta beat both Freemont and Layton..
According to your logic this is even a better case as to why Davis doesn't have a chance.
Davis/Viewmont | 12:17 p.m. Oct. 21, 2009
Not as close a game as Davis would like people to believe.
To: PrepFootballFan | 12:19 p.m. Oct. 21, 2009
The UHSAA usually puts out the schedule for state events before regions put together there schedules. So most of the time it would be the regions that schedule the football games and they where most likely the ones that schedule the football game at the same time as the soccer game.

Also the UHSAA does not have complete control over when they can and can't use the Real Stadium.

I have read somewhere that Davis HS was able to move there football game up to 3:00 so that student could attend both. So this would be Alta's problem not the UHSAA problem.
RE:logic | 12:19 p.m. Oct. 21, 2009
anybody that knows anything about sports also knows that logic like yours is just wishful thinking.
re:observation | 12:29 p.m. Oct. 21, 2009
Fremont is the team of the future in 5A soccer. Alta's "one man band" is coming to an end. Davis will be able to drive a Mack truck through Alta's middle.

Sorry Alta run is over.
What | 1:01 p.m. Oct. 21, 2009
Do you guys get it, in soccer all games are close..so what if the Alta/Freemont game was close that's how all soccer should be played, have you ever seen a world cup game. Too many soccer mom's posting on here. Oh and by the way, Freemont/Viewmont move on you lost end of story. How long are you going to be talking about your almost wins, till next year?.
