This probably makes Stu Mad. He likes to use underdog status as a motivator.

Over the next few days he will be quoted as saying that he doesn't even know if the Aggies will win any games this year... They don't look very good to him tight now, The can't play defense, etc.

Go Aggies.
Please | 9:50 a.m. Oct. 20, 2009
Good luck to the aggies. I hope they can win a second class league. They would have zero percent shot in the MWC.
Ogden Aggie | 9:51 a.m. Oct. 20, 2009
Go Aggies! Can't wait for basketball to get going! With Coach Stew at the helm there is a very good chance this team will live up to the hype. Still hoping to see some good things from football before the season ends as well. Best of luck to Coach Andersen, Stew, and both teams!

No surprise. Aggies are the best team in the WAC and in the state
Re: Please | 10:19 a.m. Oct. 20, 2009
You obviously know nothing about college basketball, why would you even bother to comment on here?
The WAC will be a tough league this year with more than a handful of players projected to be in the NBA, a few of which are lottery picks, Babbit and George.
Ags will dominate again at home though, and with a tougher schedule they should be ready for a post season run! GO AGGIES!!!
The Truth | 11:13 a.m. Oct. 20, 2009
Please is just a zoobie looser. USU will beat byu this year and they are picked to win the mountain worst conference. The WAC will be a much better basketball conference this year. Just watch and see.
Re: Re: Please | 11:19 a.m. Oct. 20, 2009
Don't feed the trolls :-)

Seriously, Ags always dominate the league - regardless of which league (Big West, WAC, it's all the same with Stew at the helm).

I would like to the see the Ags schedule every team in the MWC for one year during the preseason. I know, I know, it's not really feasible, but I would LOVE to see the Ags romp through the MWC, crush their spirits, thumb their noses at them, then walk away - it would do no good with the nay sayers, but so what? As a USU fan, I'd love to see it, and I would put money on it that USU would go undefeated against the MWC - seriously.

Go usu you are a great team

Good luck this season
Seriously | 11:51 a.m. Oct. 20, 2009
I am a fan of seeing the ags win but they don't play anybody good with their non conference games. Last year we lost to all the good teams and beat the crappy ones. We need to take a 1 for 3 with a Duke, UNC, Memphis, etc. we need to play somebody that is a credible team. look at Nevada they play UNC who do we play that is good? Northwest Nazarene, Trinity Western, Western Oregon and some other crap. These teams I have never heard of. Now look at Nevada's schedule VCU, UNC and better non conference games. No wonder they always are good cause they play a tough schedule that prepares them for the tough games in conference.
and | 12:34 p.m. Oct. 20, 2009
they will have freshman of the year in Preston Eaton.
USU | 12:39 p.m. Oct. 20, 2009
USU is a great team and as far as W-L over the last 10 years or so they've got a track record that surely is the envy of the staet. BUT, and it's a big BUT, they just aren't the clear cut state favorite Aggie fans claim. They barely beat Utah at home and they lost to BYU on a neutral court. Don't get me wrong I love the Aggies they just aren't the necessary the best team in the state.

To USU's credit anything less than 1st or 2nd place in the WAC would be a disappointment.

Are you kidding me, the Aggies a great team? Define great team for me because there are none in this state, the closest would be Utah going far into the tournament, but the aggies, please, if they even do go to the tournament which is a rarity, they are a one and done deal, you put them in the "mountain's worst" as you call it, they go on road and lose for sure to UNLV, SDSU, UTAH, BYU, and UNM, no doubt, losing 5 games like that would put you in the middle of the pack in the "mountains worst" as you call it, the teams in the wac are weak, they may have some good players, but the wac is weak.

Look at this years schedule before you comment. You make yourself look silly when you don't do your homework.
Win the WAC  | 2:29 p.m. Oct. 20, 2009
USU will win the WAC and BYU will be lucky to go 2 - 2 this year against the WAC they may go 1 - 3. Only being able to be a poor Hawaii team.
Who has the State Bucket ? | 2:31 p.m. Oct. 20, 2009
Who has the bucket for being the best basketball team in the state?? Oh yeah USU has it thats right. Win the bucket then pop off.
MWC vs. WAC | 2:35 p.m. Oct. 20, 2009
The Mountain West plays the WAC fifteen times in the non-conference with byu playing four WAC teams. Even in a so called "down year" the Mountain West will win at least ten of the matchups.

Everybody needs to cheer for Utah, byu, and Utah State to get into the NCAA Tournament, but please don't tell me that Utah State is the best basketball program in the state when you have not won an NCAA Tournament game in the past ten seasons.

The Mountain West Conference is not superior to the WAC, but it is definitely much better.
Re: Thank you PLease | 3:23 p.m. Oct. 20, 2009
30 wins. I define a great team by their W-L columns. Not by how mouthy their fans are. They would "lose for sure" to those MWC teams? Nobody's even played any games yet. They will win quite a few games. Take it easy. They return 4 out of 5 guys from a great team. Go Aggies. Here's to having the best sporting venue in the state.
Pay the teachers more | 4:04 p.m. Oct. 20, 2009
"The Mountain West Conference is not superior to the WAC, but it is definitely much better."

Whenever I read something like this I have to admit that the folks clamoring for higher paid teachers are probably right.
Thanks MWC | 4:25 p.m. Oct. 20, 2009
fans for never shutting up about how superior your conference is to the WAC, I'm completly convinced, because you guys say so!!! We are so blessed to have BYU play us in the Spectrum this year, I won't have to watch with binoculars like at the great and spacious fireside center in Provo.

My predictions
Ags win 20+ games again, multiple WAC teams to the big dance this year.

HERE IS SOME IIRONY FOR YOU | 5:19 p.m. Oct. 20, 2009
THE people posting on here are not Ute fans but rather the ever arrogant Cougar fans-I agree top to bottom the MWC is better BUT why are you even talking BYU, YOU HAVE LESS SUCCESS THAN USU and NEVADA in the NCAA tourney so until your slow, worthless team can win a GAME IN THE NCAA TOURNAMENT or win the MWC tournament-CORK IT-thanks.

Leave it to under achieving Cougars to pop off:)
MWC | 5:25 p.m. Oct. 20, 2009
As I recall the Aggies were 2-1 vs. the MWC. Humm... Surprised you didn't know that.
moose on the loose | 8:19 p.m. Oct. 20, 2009
hey mr irony!!!! show me one post where anyone said they were BYU fans or that BYU was the best team. If you want to be mad at BYU that is fine, we understand with the yearly beating we give Utah State, but not one post above your gives any suggestions that is was BYU-UTAH or for that matter weber fans bashing you. . ..
Soft schedule? | 8:57 p.m. Oct. 20, 2009
USU plays St. Mary's, Utah, and BYU this year in OOC games, plus the WAC is going to be much improved over last year (see Idaho, New Mexico, Fresno). Plus I would put a dollar down that the bracket buster game is against the likes of Gonzaga or something this year. I predict at least 25 wins this season...possibly 30 again, and a trip to the NCAAs with a better seed than last year and going at least as far as the second round.
Good Luck Aggies | 10:06 p.m. Oct. 20, 2009
Always the best team in the state of Utah...with the best coach.

Utah State was a great addition to the WAC.
Ogden Aggie | 7:43 a.m. Oct. 21, 2009
This stuff cracks me up. Same old story on the message boards as every year from the Aggie haters. "Weak schedule, you don't play anybody," bla bla bla. The Aggies schedule what they can, and then flat out win. Win, win, win!!! That is the name of the game. Keep up the winning Ags!
This stuff cracks me up too. | 8:26 a.m. Oct. 21, 2009
Same old story on these message boards. Utah St. trying to insert themselves into the Utah/BYU rivalry. Aggies, BYU and Utah fans like you. We feel sorry for you. We want you to succeed.
re: cracks me up | 9:01 a.m. Oct. 21, 2009
As an Aggie fan I appreciate the Utah/BYU rivalry. But there is room in the state for a Utah/USU rivaliry and and USU/BYU rivalry. I see the Utah/BYU always being the more heated of the rivalries, but why not throw in a couple more? Why do some Utah fans, and BYU fans think that theirs are the only ones that matter?

If you go outside of the state there exists more than one rivalry. This is all USU is trying to say. They don't want to "insert" themselves into their rivalry. We're just saying there is room for more in the state of Utah.

Granted USU has to play their part. They are competitive in B-ball enough, but if they can put a couple of 'L' on BYU and Utah on the football side of than I'd say things could be a whole lot better for the state's college athletic progams.
@MWC vs WAC | 9:07 a.m. Oct. 21, 2009
"when you have not won an NCAA Tournament game in the past ten seasons."

You should probably check yourself before spouting off, USU HAS won an NCAA tournament game in the last decade. The same can't be said for some of your "powerhouse" teams in the MWC.
sorry, but | 9:17 a.m. Oct. 21, 2009
it's true that usu has a pathetically soft schedule, and does every year. That is why they are deservedly criticized. The only tough games are at home vs. BYU and St. Mary's, then on the road to a depleted Utah team. They have Weber twice! (One in a home tournament) 9 of their 14 OOC games are at home. USU fans can argue all they want their schedule is tough, but compare it to any other decent program and it's awfully soft. No one outside of Logan will ever respect USU until this changes.
Two words | 9:30 a.m. Oct. 21, 2009
OQUIRRH BUCKET!!!! "The Oquirrh Bucket Utah State Collegiate Champ Basketball".
What goes around . . . | 10:20 a.m. Oct. 21, 2009
It is funny how some MWC fans are quick to bash the WAC, USU and BSU and at the same time cry about not being more respected by the BCS in football.

Seems that one school in particular should be aware of the rule to judge not that ye be not judged, for by that same judgement so shall ye be judged.

The Aggies are a great fit for the WAC. In BB they continually rise to the top, in FB the Aggies are on the rise.

Go Big Blue!!!
Re: sorry, but | 10:43 a.m. Oct. 21, 2009
HAHAHAHA!!!!! So, USU has a soft schedule, eh? The reason that USU CAN'T get 1 for 1 deals is NO ONE WANTS TO COME TO THE SPECTRUM AND LOSE - and this INCLUDES BYU.

The problem is not that anyone respects USU - they're afraid - afraid to come to the Spectrum and lose to a team that is "soft", because they are a mid-major, and not a major program. That's it. I'm sure USU could get a 3 for 1 against UNC, etc., but the home team has the advantage, always does, and what would this do for USU? All it would do, if they lost, is to help UNC say, "We played USU this year, a top 25 team, and we beat them!" What does USU get out of it? A check in the loss column?

Stew wants to stack the cards as much as possible in his program - show me one coach, worth his salt, who doesn't? But if USU is so soft, then why, oh why, do they run the table in the WAC? Every years since they came into the WAC they have been dominant, if not the most dominant team.
Hmmm | 12:19 p.m. Oct. 21, 2009
When did byu last win an NCAA tounament game? A long time ago. Longer than USU maybe? Utah and byu would finish 3rd in the WAC.
pablo | 1:01 p.m. Oct. 21, 2009
the last time BYU won an NCAA tournament game was in 1993. And they couldn't have even done that without a 7 foot 6 inch freak of nature. BYU, entering its 17th season without an NCAA tournament victory.
Insecurity | 1:17 p.m. Oct. 21, 2009
Give the aggies a compliment (Although winning the WAC is not that great of a compliment.) and they start ragging on other teams. It's the little fans with little minds in little Cache Valley.
All BYU fans invited | 1:56 p.m. Oct. 21, 2009
To all those BYU fans talking trash on here . . . you are invited to the Spectrum on December 2. Just because you were scared to play us in Logan last year just makes us even more happier to get you this year.

The Spectrum = BYU's Worst Nightmare

RE: Hmmm | 2:09 p.m. Oct. 21, 2009
The aggies proved last year they couldn't beat BYU so why would you say the Y would take 3rd in the WAC? The WAC is weak and the aggies would finish in the middle of the Mountain West. As an aggie fan people need to realize that the NCAA tournament isn't at home so playing all these home games against crap doesn't do you any good! you have to learn to win on the road. its as simple as that. The spectrum is a tough place to play but doesn't even come close to the big schools gyms toughness to play in.
TrueAggie | 4:19 p.m. Oct. 21, 2009
Whoever says USU doesn't have a good team doesn't know what they're talking about. After going 30-5 last year, we have a great season ahead. Two of those were conference games, but the others against really good teams. All 5 games were played extremely well and ended closely. As for this year's schedule... St. Mary's? BYU? And both those in the Spectrum don't forget. The Bracket Buster game will be in the Spectrum as well, likely against a tough team. In his 11 years at USU, Stew Morrill has only lost 12 times at home. Last year was the second year in a row as WAC champs. With Gary Wilkinson being the only player we've lost, we have a great season ahead of us. BYU fans, see you in the Spectrum. 9 days til the season starts :)
Re: RE: Hmmm | 5:20 p.m. Oct. 21, 2009
Hey just FYI the Aggies own the BYU-USU series 3-2 over the last 5 meetings. The last 8 meetings since Stew got his program in gear at USU are a dead even split. The Aggies CAN and often DO beat the TDS, even in the Fireside Center. BYU squeaked past by the skin of their teeth last year since JQ and Tai didn't get much playing time, but they will get POUNDED on Dec. 2 when they have to play in the Spectrum. As for the Spectrum not being as tough as "big school gyms:" Kyle Whelliston of the Mid-Majority (has been to multiple games at nearly every NCAA venue), along with several others, says it is easily in the top 5 venues in the nation. BYU can't talk until they have a more recent NCAA tourney win than USU.
Spectrum | 6:06 p.m. Oct. 21, 2009
Is a "great" team one that can only win at home? If so, the aggies are great. Champions of the WAC! Big fish, little pond; Stu and the bath tub navy.
Basketball | 6:11 p.m. Oct. 21, 2009
Let's forget the football season as quickly as possible. If things don't go well in hoops, we can look to track and field, or next year's football.
RE: Spectrum | 11:26 a.m. Oct. 22, 2009
I'm pretty sure that the Aggies didn't win all 30 of their games at home last year.
RE: RE: Spectrum | 4:38 p.m. Oct. 22, 2009
I am POSITIVE that the Aggies did win ALL their home games last season. Their losses: BYU, St. Marry's, Boise St., and Nevada. All road games.
RE: RE: Spectrum | 6:45 p.m. Oct. 22, 2009
Yeah, so that means that they're good at home. Last I checked, 12-6 on the road isn't bad either. (That includes tournament games. They were 9-5 during the regular season. Still not bad.) Point is, they proved they can win outside the Spectrum, not 'only' at home.
Justin | 6:53 p.m. Oct. 22, 2009
Why are the majority of these posts BYU fans bashing USU and USU fans defending themselves against BYU fans? Get over yourselves, BYU fans!
BYU has the weak schedule | 12:00 a.m. Oct. 23, 2009
I love how BYU fans talk about USU's "weak" schedule. Has anybody looked at theirs? They play powerhouses like Bradley, Idaho State, Southern University, San Francisco, Wagner, and Eastern Washington. Stacked full of softies!
Inferiority Complex | 12:11 a.m. Oct. 23, 2009
When BYU fans come to the Aggie blog and talk smack they are either A-trolls, or B-Have an inferiority complex.
