Or maybe... | 9:39 p.m. Oct. 19, 2009
Maybe its the only game featuring 2 ranked teams this week.
Maybe it could have just as easily been Houston v Cinncinatti
How Good is BYU? | 10:23 p.m. Oct. 19, 2009
This game settles the issue. No more debates about escaping or blowing out MWC cellar dwellers.

TCU along with BSU are this year's BCS buster candidates. BYU is an also ran in the BCS buster sweepstakes.

GameDay is coming to Provo because of TCU, not BYU.

Game Day | 1:24 a.m. Oct. 20, 2009
is coming to Provo because BYU is a legitimate threat to end TCUs BCS hopes and because the Cougars are still in contention for a BCS berth of their own.

It's hard for the haters to accept, but that's reality.
Pleased | 5:49 a.m. Oct. 20, 2009
I am pleased that the MWC has three ranked teams again, but none of them have been as impressive as they need to be. TCU will have to play a lot better than they have been playing if they expect to beat a tough Cougar team, and BYU will have to play improved ball if they want to beat TCU. Whichever team steps up gets this one.
ESPN gameday | 7:14 a.m. Oct. 20, 2009
is visiting Provo. Meanwhile, Utah is irrelevant.
RR | 7:43 a.m. Oct. 20, 2009
It's great to see so many key players are coming back from injury. If McKay can come back, and Anae fully uses all his weapons and mixes things up constantly, not even a defensive power like TCU can keep up with it all. TCU isn't nearly as good on the road. They beat a few decent teams by only a few points.

BYU needs to win. They need GameDay crew to say, "BYU is the team that took TCU out of the BCS title consideration," instead of, "BYU is the team that got destroyed by a lowly FSU team."

BYU just has to win this game. They are going to use the FSU game to say how BYU can't beat a decent team at home this year. If the TCU head goes on, which it likely will, BYU has to embarrass them by winning.
Re: 1:24 a.m. | 7:43 a.m. Oct. 20, 2009
...Cougars are still in contention for a BCS berth of their own...

Only lack of sleep could explain why you think BYU is in contention for a BCS game with a bad loss at home to an unranked FSU team.

The Cougars are only in contention for a berth in the Vegas Bowl.

I know this is old but the MWC has already shot themselves in the foot with their greedy contact with the MTN to get more $$$ and to avoid playing during the week... If we want the respect we deserve its not going to come from the worst TV network created in the MTN... The MWC commishiner should be fired for that terrible move. GET US BACK ON ESPNNNNN
re: ESPN Gameday | 8:22 a.m. Oct. 20, 2009
is visiting Provo because....

1)Game features 2 ranked teams, and the rest of the weekend schedule is pretty bad.

2)TCU is undefeated, and fighting Boise for a BCS bid.

3)Utah smacked Bama in the Sugar Bowl, and that win is still getting run for the MWC. Watch how much pub Utah gets on Saturday and you'll see this is the truth. You'll see plenty of Sugar Bowl highlights.

4)BYU. Had a win that was nice, against an OU team who will lose 4-5 games this year. Then got drilled by a 2-4 FSU team, whose only DI win is at LES.

FYI - When Gameday showed up in 2004 they came for 1 reason...Utah. Now they are coming to Provo for many reasons including TCU/Utah and BYU.

Basically what I'm saying is...you're welcome Cougs. This happened because of what Utah did last year.
Re: Re: 1:24 a.m. | 8:42 a.m. Oct. 20, 2009
Technically, BYU can still get a BCS game by winning out and having Boise State lose one. Being ranked 16th in the BCS rankings with a number of games left is plenty of time to get into the automatic qualifying ranking by season's end.

Having one loss, no matter to whom, doesn't disqualify you from a BCS slot. Read the requirements before spouting your hatred.

re: re | 9:06 a.m. Oct. 20, 2009
If BYU wins out they will goto a BCS game, TCU is ranked 8th in the BCS polls, if we get in the top 10 it is a definate we will be in. Once we beat TCU and if were lucky enough to win out then there is no question, even ESPN said that on their website, get your facts straight...
BYU always falls flat  | 9:13 a.m. Oct. 20, 2009
BYU always falls flat in the spotlight and expect nothing different this week. BYU will lose to TCU (easy prediction) and Hall will throw 5 interceptions. Ho hum... At least TCU will get the national attention they deserve.
Distraction | 9:16 a.m. Oct. 20, 2009
This will just be a distraction for byu to once again not perform well in a big game.
Re:re: ESPN Gameday | 9:35 a.m. Oct. 20, 2009
The only thing Utah has to do with ESPN Gameday this Saturday is that Provo is a city in Utah. The Losers up North (LUN) need to wait until the end of the season to talk smack. Who have you beaten this year? BYU had a better day against UNLV and the CSU game had the same results.
Kinda wish the BYU-Newtah game was the first game of every season so we could get beaten your red tail out of the way and you newties could stop the smack.
BYU 28, TCU 21
TCU 63, Utah 21
BYU 52, Utah 30

Did we beat Oklahoma?
cougar grad in az. | 9:46 a.m. Oct. 20, 2009
Petty, it all seems to be why ESPN's Gameday is coming to Provo just because of the Uties win over Bama. Get a life Uties!!! You are not the only program that is developing a good football program reputation. There are at least three good programs in the MWC.

The game will be a good game. BYU was spanked last year by TCU. This year could be the redemption year for BYU's ugly loss at TCU. It should be a very good game regardless of the outcome.

Good win over SDSU. Focus on this game and thump those Froggies big time. Go Cougars!!! Make us proud and show the other conferences what an up and coming program can do. Go Cougars and thump those Froggies!!!!!
Game | 9:46 a.m. Oct. 20, 2009
Yes this game is huge it hss major BCS implications. No BYU is not likely to get a BCS bid this year but it is still a slight possibility. One they need to beat TCU period. Two they need to win all of the rest of their games and three and most important they need BSU to lose. I know this is hard for some highly educated college football fans to follow but it is possible, not probable but possible. Because of the pressure being put on the BCS this year is as likely of any for a one loss team to make the BCS from the MWC, if there are no non BCS undefeated teams! The same possibility may apply to Utah as well this year if they win the rest of there games, although they do have more ground to make up in the polls to get to a 12 ranking in the BCS or a 16 ranking ahead of a BCS first place team. Some fans emotions negate all of their fan IQ!!!
ALWAYS is a strong word | 9:48 a.m. Oct. 20, 2009
Always is a strong word as it means 100% of the time. Last time I checked BYU has one some games in the spotlight (take OU/BYU earlier this year - that's a pretty big spotlight). What about KSU in the Cotton Bowl when BYU had to prove they belonged in the Bowl Alliance games and not the Cotton Bowl? Remember #1 Miami? Or how about the 1984 season in general. Everyone wanted BYU to lose and they still won.
Good one | 9:51 a.m. Oct. 20, 2009
Byu always falls flat and Distraction... your sooo correct, they do always blow it in big time situations like them playing a home opener VS #3 OU in the new cowboy stadium infromt of 80K people, they really folded being 21 point underdogs, good call... Get out of here UTE fan, seriously you have to be the most bored fans ever, 80% of the posts on these blogs are from UTE fans... amazing, at least your not making yourslef look dumb...
Ernest T. Bass | 9:52 a.m. Oct. 20, 2009
Not only did byu invent the forward pass and national titles via bowl wins over 6-6 teams, but now we invented Game Day. This is all about us, so nobody else should show up.
RE: BYU always falls flat | 9:59 a.m. Oct. 20, 2009
Didn't we beat Oklahoma?
does anyone remember... | 10:02 a.m. Oct. 20, 2009
OKLAHOMA!!!! BYU...national spotlight...14-13...ummm all of your previous comments about falling flat in the spotlight just got smashed...so there is no point in posting that anymore...(byu got the spotlight monkey off its back against OU)
Re: BYU always falls flat | 10:06 a.m. Oct. 20, 2009
"BYU always falls flat in the spotlight and expect nothing different this week. BYU will lose to TCU (easy prediction) and Hall will throw 5 interceptions. Ho hum... At least TCU will get the national attention they deserve."

Yeah, that's why they lost on national TV against a nationally-ranked opponent the first weekend of this season.

What, they didn't lose? Well, that's what I get for getting my facts from dumb Ute fans. My bad.
BYU could still get to the BCS | 10:11 a.m. Oct. 20, 2009
So could: Boise, TCU, Utah and Houston theoretically according to your loose interpretations.

Stop all the woulda, coulda, shoulda's. You're embarrassing yourselves.

Boise will be the BCS team this year, unless TCU runs the table and can pass them. Boise is not losing. They play a bunch of JV teams in the WAC.

TCU is the MWC only shot of getting in.

BYU blew their shot big time while getting throttled at home to 2-4 FSU by 26 points. And that remains the only DI game FSU has won this year.

You Cougar fans are just dying to get to the BCS like your big brothers to the north have, twice.
BCS explanation | 10:21 a.m. Oct. 20, 2009
Biased Utah fans and Uninformed BYU fans:

If BYU goes 11-1 and Boise State loses a game, BYU WILL go to a BCS game, doesn't matter that they lost to a sorry Florida State team at home. There is no undefeated requirement. The only requirement is to be ranked in the top 12 or to be in the top 16 ahead of any BCS conference champion, and to be the highest ranked non-BCS team (that's why Boise State would have to lose for BYU to go). So in 5 wins, with one against top 10 TCU and another against currently top 20 Utah, BYU couldn't move up 4 spots in the rankings? You must not think much of your team then, Ute fans. They could move up 4 spots if they played a WAC schedule over the last 5 weeks. Again, it depends on Boise State losing, but to throw it out as impossible and totally ridiculous just shows that you are not an objective observer. Then again, maybe you aren't trying to be an objective observer.
BYU always falls flat? | 10:45 a.m. Oct. 20, 2009
BYU alwasys falls flat in the spotlight, huh? Right, just like they did against Oklahoma on ESPN. See what a Yewt education does for you?
Re: Ernest | 10:48 a.m. Oct. 20, 2009
On the contrary, all the Ute fans should show up and prove once again that they are more interested in BYU football than their own program.
go UTES!!! | 11:32 a.m. Oct. 20, 2009
Utah did really good in the spotlight this year as well, Good game on ESPN VS Oregon... O wait you lost, sorry, mabye next time...
5-1 on way to 6-6 | 11:44 a.m. Oct. 20, 2009
My money says the Yewts go 1-5 the rest of the year.
Utah | 12:44 p.m. Oct. 20, 2009
If utah is so great, how come national press kept getting Utes confused with BYU? THe press thought they were from provo and that they were mormons. hahaha. You can thank BYU for your 15 minutes of fame.

is what makes sports exciting!!!

The vast majority of sports fans, if they don't have a rooting interest in one of the two teams playing, chooses the underdog to root for.

If you "guarantee" that it's absolutely impossible for the Cougars could win the rest of their games and that Boise State could lose one of their remaining games, to secure a BCS invite for BYU THIS SEASON, then you're not a true sports fan at all, you're just a BYU hater spouting your own biased OPINION.

Saying a team will win or will lose is simply stating an opinion that is no more valid than every other fan's opinion.

NOTHING is GUARANTEED in true sports.

On any given Saturday any major college football team can beat any other major college football team.

Utah State, of all teams, could be the team responsible for opening the BCS door for BYU.

Go AGGIES!!!
Chad | 1:29 p.m. Oct. 20, 2009
One big reason why Utah did so well in 2004, 2008 in busting the BCS was that they beat teams ranked AT THE END OF THE SEASON. In 2004, Utah beat Texas A&M and North Carolina ending ranked in the top 30 even though neither was ranked when Utah played them. (the rest of the MWC was terrible, especially BYU). Last year Utah beat Oregon State, TCU, and BYU that ended in the top 25.

BYU's win over OU is meaningless BCS busting if OU can't figure out how to beat someone this year. BYU did NOT beat a top 5 team, as has been shown by subsequent OU performance.

The only way BYU gets into a BCS game is if OU suddenly starts beating good teams, BYU wins out, TCU remains ranked through the end of the season, Utah remains ranked through the end of the season, Boise State loses at least once, and maybe not even then.

TCU has by far the best MWC shot at the BCS. Utah is currently ranked above BYU in the computer polls and has a better shot at BCS than BYU because Oregon is winning.
Little Jimmy Brady | 3:18 p.m. Oct. 20, 2009
The BYU is so jealous that Utah has been to the BCS twice It's killing them. Now it's my Frogs turn to go. I believe that my Frogs will clean BYU's clock and end up in a BCS game, won't that tip BYU over. I hope several MWC teams go before BYU ever does. Can't wait to see all the fans in the stands crying!!!!
Moe | 3:38 p.m. Oct. 20, 2009
Please!!! Give me a break. ESPN coming to Provo to honor the pukes. Byu did something the pukes couldn't do. Beat Oregon~!! That loss took them out of the top twenty five. An than the pukes can't even recruit the top state football players. Your'e going to like losing another three more games this year. I guarantee it!----your'e going lose in basketball too. oops! ha!ha!
RE:Ernest T. Bass | 4:03 p.m. Oct. 20, 2009

LDS Ute | 4:08 p.m. Oct. 20, 2009
1 game at a time c'mon man!!...lol.....I can't believe you guys are talking BCS again last time I checked you guys were talking about winning the national championship and you got spanked....so let's just see how this game plays out and the next one....just wait til the regular season and post season than start talking.....lol......GOOOOO UTES!!!!
Re: Ernest T. Bass | 9:52 a.m.  | 5:17 p.m. Oct. 20, 2009
That was very funny. BYU fans will show up to Game Day with their tee-shirts that say "We're Better Than You and We KNOW it."
BYU 34-31 | 5:27 p.m. Oct. 20, 2009
If BYU wins against TCU and the rest of the season (a tall order to be sure), I think it'll have a legitimate shot to be the first one-loss BCS buster. For that to happen, of course, Boise State will need to lose---which I'm confident will happen either to Idaho or Utah State.

Utah? A very good team but I can't see them beating BYU at LES. Wide is no Asiata, and definitely isn't an UNGA...

The Truth | 10:33 p.m. Oct. 20, 2009
Here it is and it's going to hurt, Cougars fans.

GameDay is coming because of TCU.

Think about it. Would GameDay come to Provo if the opponent were Wyoming, or Air Force, or New Mexico, or any MWC team other than TCU (or perhaps Utah)?

Uh, no...

Dave | 10:57 p.m. Oct. 20, 2009
Kind of off topic, but doesn't Game Day usually show a couple of plays from a local high school game? With the Timpview - Provo game to settle sole possession of first place in the region being played just down the road, I wonder if they'll pay them a visit.

GO COUGS! (And TIMPVIEW)
RE: The Truth | 11:18 p.m. Oct. 20, 2009
They don't go to Florida to watch the Gators play Tuscaloosa State either. It takes two (count them with me... 1... 2...) good teams to get Game Day in your home town. Hopefully they'll be back in November if the Utes don't blow a game along the way.
BCS | 11:26 p.m. Oct. 20, 2009
What's with all the BCS talk? its only game 8 - we've still got 5 games to play before the BCS matchups are made. Can Boise State lose in that time? Of course they can because its very difficult to go undefeated in any conference EVERY year but BYU has to win THIS Saturday for their next five matchups before they'll ever get a chance at the BCS. Lets just keep our perspective on the week to week for now and see how the season plays out.
RE: The Truth | 11:29 p.m. Oct. 20, 2009
Ouch... that smarts... here I am... I'm reeling... off my rocker... can't... take... the... pain... it just hurts.... sooooo... baddddd... mooooomyyyyy!
Re: 11:18 p.m. | 11:39 p.m. Oct. 20, 2009
It takes two good teams for GameDay to come to town?

I don't think so, when GameDay came to the Utah/BYU game in 2004 there was only one good team.
