The Truth | 10:03 p.m. Oct. 19, 2009
Yeah, that's awesome they can play 4 of the 6 at home, especially when their fans can't consistently fill a 45,000 seat stadium. It's because most of them will be sitting at home (or at least their parents home) obsessing about what will happen next with the Y.

They have a decent program, now only if they had decent fans.
Tough Schedule | 10:05 p.m. Oct. 19, 2009
We do have four at home. Unfortunately, our hardest opponents will be faced on the road. 10-3 isn't bad!
woody | 10:23 p.m. Oct. 19, 2009
The problem with 4 of 6 at home means that next year, 4 of the last 6 will be away. It will be ok if we have a better team next year for what I have seen, a lot of teams will be better next year. Makes for a better league.

Re: Woody | 10:53 p.m. Oct. 19, 2009
That is incorrect. The only schedule games are non-conference and that BYU will be the last game of the year....at home.
Apparently the Truth | 10:56 p.m. Oct. 19, 2009
is still living in the parents' basement.

Haven't had trouble getting people to the seats in a while thanks.

Attendance smack. Always a Coog classic. Don't you have an important game to go concern yourself with?

I am preparing for a fun game watching Utah play Air Force.
Moose on the Loose | 11:35 p.m. Oct. 19, 2009
Ha! Ha! Ha1

Besides BYU the only other school that fills it statium are the Bronco of Boise State.

I would be embarrassed if I were a yewtie fan and my statium was only half full!!!!!!!!!!!!

So it is great that 4 out of the last 6 games are at home.........now if more than half of the fans actually showed up!!!!!!!!!!

Prediction: Utah will lose 3 out of their last 6 games and finish 4th in the conference!!!!!!!!

Go BOISE STATE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

kw | 5:49 a.m. Oct. 20, 2009
the fun now begins as the Utes take on AF,TCU,and BYU in the last half of the season. TCU and BYU are the two road games. Could be tough.
re: Moose | 6:59 a.m. Oct. 20, 2009
I would be embarassed if I thought stadium was spelled "statium". Sounds like a Boise education to me.

Oh yeah, and didn't the Utes sell out their season tickets? I know that Utah's stadium is smaller than the Cougars', but it's a lot easier to fill 30,000 seats (Boise) than 45,000 (Utah).
Re: Moose on the Loose | 7:16 a.m. Oct. 20, 2009
You should change your alias to "Brain on the Loose," or "Spelling on the Loose." You don't even need to reference BSU because we can tell you're from there anyway just by reading your posts.
re: The Truth | 8:02 a.m. Oct. 20, 2009
Can't blame you, if I were a Cougar fan I would be diverting attention from Saturday's big game as well. We all saw what happens when an athletic team, who is actually really bad and whose only DI victory is against BYU, comes into LES. The Kittens get DESTROYED.

Hey, but at least the Cougs managed to accomplish something the Utes have already done, even though not because of themselves. Getting Gameday is nice, it's just too bad they are coming because 1)TCU is undefeated and fighting Boise for the BCS, 2)Utah smacked Bama in the Sugar Bowl and that is still getting the MWC run, and finally 3)BYU.
The Truth & Moose | 8:06 a.m. Oct. 20, 2009

Moose, can you please comment on BSU 1/3 full stadium vs mighty Cal Davis?
Anonymous | 8:32 a.m. Oct. 20, 2009
Who cares about BYU they are what Michigan State is to Michigan. I think we have a real chance of finishing the season 12-1. Not bad for a rebuilding year I think.
RE The Truth | 8:49 a.m. Oct. 20, 2009
Hey Zoobie fan,

BYU had a chance to do what Utah already did last year and they blew it. BYU had the whole world in their hands and they could not handle the pressure. Thanks BYU for setting back the MWC 10 years with that loss to FSU. I will be watching from home with a coke in my hand.....
DRLL | 8:55 a.m. Oct. 20, 2009
I am a little concerned about the run defense -- if we don't shore it up a little it could really hurt against AFA, TCU and TDS. But I love the overall winning attitude that is developing, and I love that we have many players on both sides of the ball who can make big plays. Should be a fun second half. Go Utes!
danburtreynolds | 9:17 a.m. Oct. 20, 2009
Actually, I see it as five of the last six are away games considering LES is Rice-Eccles South.
Grow Up ... please! | 9:34 a.m. Oct. 20, 2009
Little brother disease is rampant. One BYU comment and the inferiority complex bursts on the scene. That initial comment has totally enthrawled the Utah commentors. Aside from the Moose (The WAC is still a one-team dominated conference just like BYU dominated it years ago), Utah fans just can't help running smack about BYU.

When will Utah fans grow up and not feel like they have to bash BYU in order to feel good about their school. Perhaps these posters are really more BYU-haters than Utah Fans. That would explain alot. Where are all the positive comments about Utah from Utah fans?
TheHailstorm | 9:40 a.m. Oct. 20, 2009
A comment on attend dunce ?
YBU has more students and a crowd of painted up 11 year olds. Why is attendance an issue ? The Utes seem to be doing well living on the millions earned by winning BCS games and don't have to sell tickets for a dollar to anyone under 12. Why is that an issue ? Utah has a student body of about 2/3 that of YBU and we sell out 45,000 seats to 60,000 for the Y.... so you do the math.
See if you can keep the game exciting during the national game day. We were spotlighted in '04 and made the MWC proud. Try not to embarrass the conference will you please ?
As if the turf wasn't a big enough joke , just wait until Hughes for TCU is playing in the backfield with Max.
Bronco can then send those tapes to the league office and whine about being picked on by the refs. turf , execution or.... ( fill in your excuse here...)
Stat_Man | 9:56 a.m. Oct. 20, 2009
2008 season to Current (official gate receipts provided by MWC and WAC):

Utah average attendance: 45,521 (101.12% full)
Stadium seating capacity: 45,017

BYU average attendance: 64,113 (100.11% full)
Stadium seating capacity: 64,045

BSU average attendance: 32,500 (97.02% full)
Stadium seating capacity: 33,500

Conclusion: BYU and BSU fans are liars. (see comments before about Utah's attendance at home games.)

Moose on the Loose Fan | 11:01 a.m. Oct. 20, 2009
Okay,

Boise State is higher ranked than any MWC teams!!!

And a member of the WAC!!!

And we fill our stadium with more fans!!!

So if we had better teams in the WAC we would still be higher ranked than BYU and the Yewts???

It seems to me that just because the Broncos get invited to the BCS almost every year....then we probably would still be ranked higher than BYU and the Yewts if we were in the MWC

GO BOISE STATE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yes Stat Man - Utah has been really solid in their attendance the this and last year. You were also very solid in 2004 with an average 44,000+ attendace

But Utah has played well in those years.
In 2005 the year after playing in the Fiesta Bowl you averaged 41,500. That is sad. Really Sad.

You did not sell out every game in 2006 or 2007. But then 2008, your team is good again and your fans come back.

We both know if Utah loses to Air Force this weekend all the Utah fans will jump off the band wagon

Re: Grow Up ... please! | 9:34 a | 12:22 p.m. Oct. 20, 2009
Not BYU haters, we're haters of BYU fans. It is BYU fans who need to grow up, brother. You people brag about being the new national champions before the season even starts. You print up tee-shirts and ware them proudly. After the first loss, you lower the bar to merely going to the BCS. Still, you print up tee-shirts and write your own endings to football games that have not yet been played. Both your own games and games for teams you believe stand between BYU and the BCS. After your next loss, you will lower the bar to a 10 win season as the ultimate prize to which every team should aspire.

As if the Quest for Perfection wasn't humiliating enough for you...amidst all the bragging, chest thumping, and piles of unused tee-shirts, you guys get blown out at home by a poor team, your coach calls his fans uneducated and covers up a DUI. STILL you people talk like everyone wants to be you.

What's not to enjoy? You people are a laugh a minute. Your problem is, we are the ones doing the laughing.

How did mighty LES look during the Crowton years?

Exactly, that's what I thought.

A percentage of fans from every program/team go up and down in actual attendance when that team is up or down. That is common sense. Even the loyal gray-hairs in Provo quit going when BYU was getting whipped by CSU and Boise at home.

Superiorty complex is still alive and well down south. And can once again be proven inaccurate with actual stats.
BYU fan | 2:08 p.m. Oct. 20, 2009
I am a huge cougar fan, and I have to admit that I am a littlejealous of the success that the Utes have had the last five years. I mean, two BCS victories in the recent past is certainly more impressive than anything we have done in the last 20+ years. I just wish all my fellow Cougar fans would be a little more realistic b/c it makes the entire Cougar nation look stupid when they make completly unsupported claims of superiority. First we need to have a successful season, and then all the smack talk will be more well founded.
Attendance Smack | 2:32 p.m. Oct. 20, 2009
Gotta love Cougar Fan trying to run attendance smack that only worked in the 80s. Oh wait that is the last time BYU was know nationally for anything in football. I guess it makes sense that they run attendance smack. They are still living in the 80s.

Average Stadium Attendance since Whittingham and Mendenhall became head coaches:

2005
(6-5 record)Utah: 41,536 (92.27% full)
(6-5 record)BYU: 58,204 (90.88% full)

2006
(7-5)Utah: 43,279 (96.20% full)
(10-2)BYU: 60,524 (92.69% full)

2007
(8-4)Utah: 42,593 (94.62% full)
(10-2)BYU: 64,497 (100.71% full)

2008
(12-0)Utah: 45,542 (101.17% full)
(10-2)BYU: 64,102 (100.09% full)

Conclusion: Utah has filled their stadium on average more than BYU has 3 out of the last 4 years.

The stats so far this year have Utah winning again in average attendance.

*please note the records do not include bowl games

Football attendance | 3:24 p.m. Oct. 20, 2009
Utah - RES official capacity - 45,017
2005 #54 41,536 (92%)
2006 #49 43,279 (96%)
2007 #54 42,593 (95%)
2008 #51 45,542 (101.1%)

BYU - LES official capacity - 64,045
2005 #32 58,204 (91%)
2006 #26 60,524 (95%)
2007 #27 64,497 (100.7%)
2008 #27 64,102 (100.1%)

There is one big difference. Utah gives away student tickets. BYU students have to pay for their tickets.

Ah come on, no one cares about the Utes and who shot who, who got arrested, what prop 48 player is considering the utes or whether Coach W is as dumb as he sounds. Papers are dying while you waste our time with puke news. There is a reason gameday is down south.

By the way no offense is intended.

No, the big difference is Utah doesn't sell tickets for $1 for each of the 20 kids in the family.
RES | 4:26 p.m. Oct. 20, 2009
is a beautiful stadium for a team with a smaller fan base. The Utah Olympic Committee really helped make RES a first class football venue.

It was pretty dumpy before the makeover--ancient wooden benches with slivers, yuck!

Isn't that Great....

Whittingham is already predicting the Utes will place 4th in the MWC standings this year........just like the old days when the WAC would hand out trophies to the Utes

5th place 84 WAC Utes,
7th Place 81 WAC Utes...its nostalgic and catchy!
Anonymous | 5:04 p.m. Oct. 20, 2009
I don't understand these posts. Utah fans allow a girl to goad them into attendance banter when BYU sits on the edge of losing another game, their coach just covered up a DUI, AND the guy has called his own fans uneducated. There is enough fodder here to keep me going for days but all my fellow Utah fans can do defend game attendance? Come on people, let's tell BYU how moronic they are...it's a target rich environment!
reality check | 6:09 p.m. Oct. 20, 2009
The percentage of Utah fans who actually graduate from college thus earning them the title "educated" far exceeds the BYU fans attending games who never make it past their 2nd year, thus earning Apostle Bronco's tru moniker "uneducated."

Check the facts. Drop out rates at BYU exceed those at Utah.
TCU | 6:29 p.m. Oct. 20, 2009
It's creepy how you "happy valley" folks smack talk...are you all drunk on green jello?

TCU 32
BYU 6

FYI: TCU is getting feelers to join the Big 12...maybe Utah State can take our place...you know keep it all in the family.
Re: reality check | 6:09 p.m.  | 7:06 p.m. Oct. 20, 2009
"Drop out rates at BYU exceed those at Utah." It's true. The dropout rate is very high at BYU...especially among women. Why is that?
Dear Stat_Man | 1:55 a.m. Oct. 21, 2009
I hope you are not employed as a statistician because your variance is 0. Anything less than a 3% difference is most often considered meaningless. Too bad you never learned that in school. Remember, statistics can lie and liers use statistics all the time to push their false premise.

ALso unless you personall know the person non of you have any proof that the person putting down the other team is actually a fan of a team. For all you wackos know it is someone just trying to stir up controversy. Heck it could be the same person posting 90% of these comments. Get a life and take a reality check.
RES tough place to play | 7:28 a.m. Oct. 21, 2009
Nothing like a Saturday on the hill watching the Utes play...unless you're a visitor. RES is really becoming a very tough place to play.
Go Utes!
re: Dear Stat_Man | 8:28 a.m. Oct. 21, 2009
The premise being fought is that 1)Utah doesn't fill RES for football games, and 2)Utah fans are more bandwagon than BYU fans.

Clearly, the stats don't lie. They prove that Utah fills their stadium just as well as BYU fills theirs. And that when a team isn't at its best, a small percentage of fans don't show up, whether it's BYU or Utah.

Basically, that the only smack BYU has left, attendance smack, is now obsolete.

Bandwagon | 8:31 a.m. Oct. 21, 2009
It's funny to hear BYU fans accuse Utah fans of being bandwagon jumpers.

Here's the difference. If BYU had been in the 2005 Fiesta Bowl, I know that hards to imagine seeing as BYU cannot get to the BCS no matter how hard they pray for it, you wouldn't have seen Utah fans pretending to be BYU fans just for the trip. But when Utah busted the BCS and was invited to the Fiesta Bowl, there were plenty of BYU fans sporting Red gear for the trip.

Who are the bandwagon fans? I know, BYU fans were just doing what they could to experience the BCS firsthand, since they apparently saw into the future and watched as BYU fumbled away chances to get their themselves.
Stat_Man | 8:47 a.m. Oct. 21, 2009
I'm just keeping it basic for the "uneducated" BYU fans out there. The "uneducated" spew forth words which are not true and unfounded. I do, however, realize the "uneducated" are still living in 1984. I feel sorry for those kittens. The drones of knitting and cross-stitching at LES must have done some serious brain washing. How can we help "educate" the BYU kitties? Or is it a lost cause?
