Man, Salt Lake seems to have an immense problem in getting things done these days. What, with the dumb liquor laws we have in place, construction projects getting delayed 10 years, and seeing all these empty lots scattered throughout the valley.

That sounds like progress to me, lol!
Need Change | 6:38 a.m. Oct. 20, 2009
Exactly, that is why we need new people in the council seats. And a Mayor who knows how to make things work to better the city. And not raise property taxes. We need Wes Losser!

Just a few quick comments concerning this article in addition to the report by Mr. Wilcox. First and foremost, this report (as clearly stated within the report itself) is a DRAFT. It is not the final report and requires comment and feedback by the council, staff and the numerous consultants and individuals involved with this project. The report contains numerous errors. This is of no fault to Mr. Wilcox, as the time constraints that he was placed under was unrealistic. In all fairness to Mr. Wilcox, it is my belief that he would be the first to admit that the report needs considerable refinement. Mr. Wilcox suggests in his draft, that the city would be best served by working with the lender to "parcel" the various pieces of land off. This is the very thing that the developer has been trying to prevent. The uniqueness and value of this project is predicated on the fact that a significant acreage has been assembled allowing for a consistent, well thought out development plan that would benefit the city for generations to come. Unless of course it is the city's desire to simply have more of the same.

Wes Losser set our city back decades last time he was Mayor. If we elect him again then we get what we deserve - a crime infested, economically stagnant embarrassment of a community. If he's the best we can do we should just merge with SLC, Murray or one of our other neighbors and quit trying.
Why not... | 10:52 a.m. Oct. 20, 2009
...Waste that 2 million on hiring a marketing agency to come up with a new name for SSL?

Oh wait, didn't they try that already?
yes to losser | 11:15 a.m. Oct. 20, 2009
Wes' crime rate was overall lower than Gray's, had more economical growth than Gray's and had more capital improvements to the city. Also the employees were accountable under Losser. Now the employees campaign against him so as to cover up many of the unethical things they do over there. Somebody needs to ask the fire department about the Piranha Club, a group started to "eat alive" those fire fighters who oppose them or rat them out for all their garbage. And shame on all the incumbent candidates for taking the fire department's endorsement while they know about this. Exercise your VETO....Vote Everyone Totally Out.
Wes Losser? | 12:28 p.m. Oct. 20, 2009
I find it interesting that many posts are referring to a need to have Wes Losser back as Mayor. As a resident, that is where the problems began. Unfortunately, our political leaders are more worried about "what's in it for me" than what can I do to help my neighbor's.
I wish we could find real leadership in South Salt Lake!

Obviously you have no idea, whatsoever, about what you are talking about. It sounds like you, as well as the poster at 9:28 AM, have been listening to the lies of Wes Losser and his cronies.

That is a pretty large charge you have made there about the employees of South Salt Lake. Care to back that up with any facts? Or is that what Losser supporters are? A group of people that make outrageous claims from the anonymity of comment boards.

Why don't you ask someone at the fire dept what the "piranha club" was? You are talking about the good natured nickname that was given to one of the platoon's right? that had to do with all the type A personality guys on that platoon, right? Yeah, why don't you ask a firefighter about that?

I hope anyone that votes in SoSLC reads the post by "yes to losser" and realizes that that is the mind set of Wes Losser and his crowd. They are sliming a great group of people.

Voters of SoSLC, if you have had the dedicated people of the Fire Dept come to your house and assist you or a loved one, and if you have seen them go above and beyond the call of duty, realize that they are adamantly opposed to Wes Losser becoming mayor again, as are the vast majority of the employees of the city. They saw the devastation that was caused by Wes Losser when he was mayor.

The campaign of misinformation and lies being waged by Wes Losser is disgusting.

Anyone that does not realize that his administration kept from raising taxes by putting in a hiring freeze has not been paying attention. That hiring freeze caused public safety numbers to dwindle. It led to patrol cop numbers on your streets shrinking to the point that you would have one cop working on a friday night. In the entire city. Is that really what you want again?

No, the employees of SoSLC are not against Wes Losser because of some phantom charges of corruption, they are against him because of the incompetency they saw in his administration.

Mark,

Funny, none of the firefighters knew anything about the piranha club when they WERE asked about it the other day. And by the way, where would you like the proof sent?
yes to losser | 2:37 p.m. Oct. 20, 2009
Mark is right about one thing..."that his administration kept from raising taxes".

Marks comments simply prove the point...The employees have way too much say in politics in SSL. The residents need to ask what is the real reason the employees are involved? They should do their job and go home. Don't listen to the fearmongers who are desparately afraid of finally being held accountable. A strong mayor will insist on job performance. Period.

keep this on subject.

Market station should not bond. It may be a good plan, but it has to happen without risking the city's money. If there can be a way to find a win win for everybody, good luck. But don't put the city's long term standing on the line.

yes to losser, you bleat, "Funny, none of the firefighters knew anything about the piranha club when they WERE asked about it the other day."

And where were they asked and who was asked? Guarantee you that if you ask any of them, that have been around a while (seeing as the "piranha club" was an inside joke from about eight years ago) and that is off duty (because on duty employees cannot comment on political issues) they will be happy to tell you about the "piranha club."

It is sickening that people would come on here with misinformation and unsubstantiated slurs and try to attack honest people. But this is the kind of campaign that the Wes Losser people are running.

It is just like their lie about "where did the 10 million dollars go?"

Nothing but an out and out lie and misrepresentation, easily refuted by looking at the budget of SoSLC. This is public information and available on the cities web site.
mark | 4:53 p.m. Oct. 20, 2009
The Wes Losser campaign has been spreading misinformation of a missing 10 million dollars. This question has been printed on their literature as well as their web site.

If there was a missing 10 million dollars in the SoSLC coffers I am sure the prosecutors office would love to look into it, maybe even the feds, I would imagine.

That aside, anyone can find this information on the city web site, or call the city and they would be happy to help you (and quite pleasantly) as I did today, or even visit city hall.

Nonetheless it is on the web site, the money is there. In fact it is up to 14 million.

So this raises the question, does Losser's campaign know about the money and they are intentionally lying about it? Or are they unable to find the information (a public budget, available, by law, to any that want to look at it)? Or are they just unable to read a budget?

Any option does not look good for a candidate, a previous office holder. Are people really going to vote for this joke of a candidate?

Is "yes to losser" really trying to say that employees of SoSLC should have no political say? Well yes this person is: "They should do their job and go home."

Obviously this person does not know that for many of the employees SoSLC is home.

Also it seems that "yes to losser" missed that little part of America called the United States Constitution and that tiny part of that great document called the 1st Amendment. Am I really to believe that the Losser campaign does not believe in the right of freedom of speech?
mark | 5:05 p.m. Oct. 20, 2009
On taxes, the City of South Salt Lake had not raised property taxes in over fifty years, when they finally realized that they had the choice between raising taxes or disincorporating the council made the correct decision to raise taxes. They did this with broad public support. Or were you not there, "yes to losser" at that public meeting where person after person spoke in support of the tax increase? The numbers that stood in support of the increase far outweighed those opposed.
mark | 5:12 p.m. Oct. 20, 2009
For the rest of your sliming, "yes to losser" you say: Don't listen to the fearmongers who are desparately afraid of finally being held accountable.

What fear mongers are you talking about? Who do you think is afraid of being held accountable?

What despicable tactics you use. But they reflect the Losser campaign tactics.

As for any proof you have of misdeeds, and where would I like them sent, the obvious place would be the media. But it is a very nasty piece of work you got going there trying to claim you have something, nasty indeed.

mark | 5:14 p.m. Oct. 20, 2009
And frankly, I am very surprised that the D-news monitors would allow that sort of slur to be posted.

I know both canidates runing for Mayor. They are both great individuals. Though I don't agree with some things that Wes Losser did as a Mayor, he is a great guy.

The real problem at hand isn't who is the Mayor, it's that South Salt Lake needs an overhaul and every one knows it. Unfortunately, that is going to require a lot of money, and we all know that's hard to find at the moment.

We also need to get over the political division that occurs in our city and start working together. It seems like every City Council or Mayoral election it becomes a Civil-War.

When is South Salt Lake going to realize that for the most part there are great people running for office. We don't have a large portion of citizens who even try anymore, because of the backstabbing, and rhetoric that is so aweful.

Let's just start working together to fix the problem. Make South Salt lake Cleaner, Safer, and "my hometown" again! Wasting time accusing people of stupid accusations doesn't fix the city, it makes it worse!
