Seemed like those stories, some from the 1940's, when kids were trapped in wells and the whole country followed it, even on the radio. Interesting what we call news.

Mythbusters is one of the best shows ever.

Scott,

Hindsight is always 20-20. At the time, however, when a child's life allegedly hangs in the balance, nobody wants to question the panicky parents and try to apply critical thinking. You just run and do whatever it takes to get that kid down!

And that instinct to save an endangered child is exactly what the Heene parents took advantage of!

They are criminals and deserve to be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law!

CNN was following the story for hours and hours. The coverage made no sense, even if it was not a hoax. But then again, CNN is not much of a news network anymore.

"There is not enough helium in that thing to carry a child..duh."
My daughter said it best though; "So physics teachers around the world are probably shaking their heads in disgust right now..."

And until it landed, how did anyone know exactly how big the ballon was? Without that detail, it is hard to conclude it could carry the boy or not. At my work we raised the question, but without the exact dimensions one can't be sure. Until it was on the ground, we had no scale to know if is was ~20 feet in diameter and ~6 feet in height or ~30 feet in diameter and ~9 feet in height. After it was on the ground, I think everyone started questioning the story. Another detail that was lacking was how heavy a 6 year-old this was. It turns out he is pretty light.

When I first saw the "news" about the boy maybe being in the balloon. My first thought was about about that mythbusters episode. I knew immediately that the kid wasn't in there, the balloon wasn't big enough.

Thanks for validating my opinion that Seth MacFarlane is a no-talent hack. I tried to watch a few episodes of Family Guy, and it's just not worth 24 minutes for a couple of funny moments. Why do they keep giving him more shows? I wish Family Guy stayed canceled the first time!

I know, I know, I don't watch the show now, and other people have the right to watch it if they want, but it's still annoying to see the stupid commercials for the stupid shows. Even what they show on the commercials is not appropriate for family tv viewing. They should save all the crass stuff for just the show, but then I guess they wouldn't have any clips to show on the commercials.

It just makes me mad that lame shows get renewed and get spin offs while other far better shows, Eli Stone, Pushing Daisies, just to name a couple, get canceled too quickly because the common viewer would rather watch stuff that doesn't require them to think.
