Keep kickin it! Go Utes!
bigutefan | 10:59 p.m. Oct. 18, 2009
Imagine when we finally put a whole game together. At least we haven't peaked already like some teams. Keep improving. For the Utes to go 5-1 with four of their first six games on the road is impressive. Utes only leave the state one more time to Texas.
moose on the loose | 1:43 a.m. Oct. 19, 2009
I just pray that Cain doesn't go down in the TCU game. Drilling utah in provo because they had to play the freshman would take all the fun out of it. We want the ute health, when we apply our "honor code" to them. And then sunday night after the whipping we would like them to join us for a huge fireside. . .

It will help them cope with the 7-3 record they will take to boise for their bowl game a week later.

Welcome home! | 2:36 a.m. Oct. 19, 2009
Three home games in a row now. The Utes hopefully will be 8-1 and closing in on the top 10 for that showdown in Ft. Worth. If TCU stays unbeaten, we could have them at around #5 and the Utes at around #12 I'm thinking. Epic. Go Utes!
Erik Comarga | 5:51 a.m. Oct. 19, 2009
Don't worry too much Ute fans. Our worst games have been on the road. At home, the team has a better chance of getting in sync. Remember, they have 3 straight home games before they get TCU on the road. That is the best prep we could have asked for if we have to play the best MWC team on the road.

My biggest worry is the defense. It doesn't look like a typical Whittingham Defense. We give up too many big runs, something we've been able to stop very effectively the past few years. Sitake is probably still working it out, and with a mentor like Whittingham, I think the D will still come to be a top ranked D by the end of the season.

I can't wait to see Robert Johnson matched up with Max Hall. I bet he has more receptions from Hall in that game than any of the cougie receivers!
Not very impressive | 7:34 a.m. Oct. 19, 2009
UNLV was still in this game late in the third quarter. Their DBs won't be able to play center field against the Y or TCU. They'll be up on the line helping to stop the run. UNLV had six offensive drives of more than six plays against the Utes, They had two against the Cougs.
WoW | 7:50 a.m. Oct. 19, 2009
Have you looked at the stats in this game. If you were to look at the stats, and not the score, it shows that UNLV dominated. Kudos to the Utes for finding a way to win! Hope they can find some way to improve, because this bull will not cut it against better teams.

We had Game Day in 2004, right before we kicked the Coogs around all day (capped off with a Steven Fifita touchdown run ala "the fridge"), and became the FIRST BCS BUSTERS on our way to the Fiesta Bowl!!!

Utah believes in sportsmanship and doesn't blow teams out and add insult to injury. Like those righteous cougs down south

9 comments on this Utah article. 83 comments on the BYU article. There must be more BYU haters out there than there are Utah fans. Sad, Pitiful really.

So, Utah smack talk includes wins and losses. (i.e. 2 BCS bowl victories)

BYU smack talk includes comparing how many comments are made on an article on desnews.com!

Ute fans wont comment on their team, so I do it for them. BTY, you ever tried to type on a keyboard when your drunk? give them a break, I can only imagine how funny they would be to watch.
Ute Train | 9:19 a.m. Oct. 19, 2009
Just keeps chugging and getting W's. Not so many style points but that's not Whit's forte. Naysayers like Locke were picking Ute's to lose at least one of the last two games at the start of the season. Utes have a test this week with the Falcons but I like our chances at home. Suddenly the loss at Oregon doesn't look so bad, Not like the cougies drubbing at home by FSU. Get ready to be planted in your turf again Saturday by the Frogs.
DRLL | 9:22 a.m. Oct. 19, 2009
I like sort of flying under the radar here. All the focus is on BYU-TCU (just like last season) while Utes look good, not great, but appear to improve every game (like last season). Under Whittingham, the Utes always seem markedly better in their last 2-3 games -- it's called peaking at the right time (while BYU always seems to play their best game sometime between the 2nd and 6th game and then go downhill from there). So regardless of the result of the TCU-BYU game, right now I'm okay with the way things are.

HaHaHa. I am layind down laughing. This person honestly thinks that Utah is going to get past TCU and BYU and remain #12?? Hysterical.

slccoyote | 9:53 a.m. Oct. 19, 2009
amerika's utes have bad habit of playing to level of the competition. that caused them to lose a game to the quacks that was very winnable, and in the case of unlv, playing down to the competition. anyone who thinks this game was winnable for unlv in 3rd qtr is delusional.

air force played tough defense against wyoming. utes need good preparation and cain needs to attack downfield. play calling for utes has sucked. cain an accurate passer, specially if one considers all the dropped passes. brooks alone must have a dozen. prediction: utes 31-14

big game for satan's cougars this week. tcu looked awful tough against colorado state. just don't think that byu matches up physically. the only prayer is that their massive offensive line can withstand defensive pressure. we all know what happens to max hall when he gets pressured.

though i like harvey unga, just don't see him getting running space. its games like this that team speed is very important. prediction: tcu 27-17.

Don't usually comment on Ute blogs, but the paranoia and inferiority complex is palpable. Just live with your success and leave the other teams (Cougars) alone.
themuss | 9:58 a.m. Oct. 19, 2009
k all the articls are different. some saw unlv didn't score a touchdown pass and others say clayton threw a touchdown pass which is it??
Hmm | 10:18 a.m. Oct. 19, 2009
RE: I'm a Moose Fan - you obviously didn't understand.. if the Utes continue winning and TCU continues winning they think that will be the ranking going into the Utah-TCU game.. not the final ranking. Learn to read.

RE: themuss - Clayton did not throw the touchdown pass it was Clausen.
re the Muss | 10:20 a.m. Oct. 19, 2009
UNLV backup QB Clausen threw the TD.

Lets keep it rolling Utes.
Re: Observation-ist | 8:56 a.m.  | 10:25 a.m. Oct. 19, 2009
There are disorders that explain your behavior on these boards.
For BYU | 10:28 a.m. Oct. 19, 2009
fans that love to read Utah articles and comment we might as well give you something to chew on. The Utes would prefer that you beat TCU on Sat. and go up in the polls. TCU will still be ranked when Utah meets them in Texas. November 28th then would be for the title and then some. Just like last year was suppose to be. But alas...just like last year, you'll drop the game to TCU, fall completely OUT of the top 25 with UTAH and TCU once again carrying the MWC banner into the Bowl season.
RE: I'm a Moose Fan  | 10:30 a.m. Oct. 19, 2009
Please read the actual comments before responding. Welcome Home said that if Utah remains unbeaten up until the game against TCU, TCU will be ranked #5 and Utah #12. He didn't say anything about post-TCU rankings. So while you're laying down laughing (or "layind", as you say), maybe work on your reading comprehension!
Ute Fans are the WORST! | 10:34 a.m. Oct. 19, 2009
Actually, should we call them Ute fans or BYU haters? Probably BYU haters because they could care less what happens to Utah as long as BYU loses.

Completely pathetic. No wonder they can't consistently fill a 45,000 seat stadium. What a joke!
FieldConditions | 11:00 a.m. Oct. 19, 2009
The Y will have the grass about 2 feet long, and coming up in chunks, to slow down TCU, at LES (RES south). But it won't matter. TCU in a close one. Boogers 35 TCU 42. Utes remember they can't kick a field goal!
Anonymous | 11:13 a.m. Oct. 19, 2009
anyone notice that byu fans always talk the most smack, and are incredible whiners?

eddie above captures the tone perfectly~~cougar fans feel inferior to ute fans, and that has created a paranoia that presents itself in the viciousness that you see on ute blogs from cougar fans. cougar fans have take partisanship to a compleatly strange level!!
Ute Man | 11:21 a.m. Oct. 19, 2009
This is the same stuff we were saying about the Utes a year ago - "if the Utes continue to play like this, we will lose. truth is we find ways to win.

I like what DRLL said - the Utes will peak at the right time, really we just need to turn the ball over less, and be a little more consistent on our drives. That will keep pressure on other teams defenses. Our defense is playing (except for RJ Stanford) - other than that. We will find a way to be in every game.
RE: WROST! | 11:22 a.m. Oct. 19, 2009
The entire MWC is the WORST. Even your best teams are pathetic on a national level. Yes, you get a few mormons to show up at home and away, too bad they don't count for any points as your team is second-rate, along with the rest of that pathetic "conference" you have. I can't believe how over-hyped Utah/BYU fans are for their teams after moving here. Yes, be a fan, but don't be delusional about the programs. 2-nd rate, sorry!
Moose Math | 11:34 a.m. Oct. 19, 2009
Hey Moose. Please explain to me how in a 12 game season Utah can end up with a 7-3 record. I would normally assume that your math skills imply a BwhineU education, but your maturity level implies something more in the Jr. High range. And great prediction last week on the Utah game. How much did you predict UNLV to win by? And let me go out on a limb here and guess that you will predict a Utah loss this week.
Ute4now | 12:20 p.m. Oct. 19, 2009
"Despite win Utes far from satisfied"? No way jose, I'm very satisfied. For now anyway.
Jordan | 12:31 p.m. Oct. 19, 2009
Re: "RE: Wrost!" @ 11:22.

You didn't even quote the title right. At any rate, you can tell Alabama that they got trounced by a "second rate" program. Also that a "second rate" program beat Oklahoma this year. Even though Bradford went out, if BYU was second rate, they "shouldn't" have beat OK. Though I am no fan of the Cougs, this is fact. Being from SEC country, I know the top 3 in the MTN can compete, as well as another team every once and a while. I also know that the Utah/BYU rivalry is a very, very good rivalry, about as good as any. The games are almost always good, and always exciting. The hype for these games are definitely not overdue, so go back to whatever little conference you are from. Probably a scared fan from the ACC, C-USA, or something similar.
Re WoW @ 7:50 | 12:52 p.m. Oct. 19, 2009
What stats are you looking at? The only two where UNLV beat us were 1st downs (remember, 5 of theirs were because of penalties on us) and time of possession. Look at UNLV's 3rd and 4th down conversion rates - they stunk!

Our O outgained UNLV by 2 yards a play, either rush or pass. And our D shut them down at opportune times (i.e. compensating for the 2 fumbles and forcing a field goal on one, and a 4-and-out on the other), scored 1 TD on their own (on the AWESOME interception by Cox - rather Kruger-esque if you ask me...) and set up another on RoJo's INT and return to the 10.

Ya, the offense sputtered a bit in the 3rd, but even when UNLV got some momentum and cut it to 28-15, it was still at least a 2-score if not 3-score game. But just like last year and many times before that, the D kept it from getting very close.

Call me crazy but I like eddie wide better than this years slimmed down asiata.
Scared Zoobs | 2:10 p.m. Oct. 19, 2009
The zoobs are just afraid because we had to turn the ball over a couple times for UNLV to score and the offense looked pretty bad and we put up 35. They know by November Utah's offense will be clicking and we will hand them their third lose.
Come on! | 2:51 p.m. Oct. 19, 2009
How come this comment board suddenly turned into a board about BYU? I thought this article was about the Utes beating UNLV. Its funny to me how obsessed my fellow Ute fans are about BYU. Lets focus on our Team for once. Forget about BYU. Focus on the Utes.
Do we focus on BYU because deep down we know they are better than us this year?
Re: Anon 2:00 | 3:08 p.m. Oct. 19, 2009
I'm with you - tough to argue with 3 straight games over 100 yards! Plus, I think having Wide instead of Asiata forces Schramm to think a bit more about his play calling.

That said, he still tosses in the occasional mind-bender, like the QB draw on 3rd and long from about midfield, late 3rd quarter. We had some nice momentum going and that play (Cain gained about 3-4 yards instead of the needed 7 or 8) quickly put a stop to it.
Ref: Anonymous | 3:46 p.m. Oct. 19, 2009
Talking about the Cougs lack of class in running up score. I suppose you forgot the on side kick against Wyoming when the utes were up by 30? Rethink your comment. Against UNLV, Hall out by beginning of the fourth quarter.

The reason the board turns into BYU talk is because there really isn't much to talk about when it comes to Ute football. Game Day!!! in Provo. Read'em and weep uties.
Utes | 5:46 p.m. Oct. 19, 2009
Comments on the board are funny. Ute fans are so paranoid. I was laughing how all the Ute fans think that UTah is so good and that BYU is pathetic. SOunds like Mooose on the Loose knows how to ruffle some feathers. My favorite comment is how Utah is going to finish in 12th place. DId all the readers get that...or does someone need to check their reading comprehension. haha. Probably a drunk Ute fan who wrote that one.

"WE" appear to be a tdS fan; not a Boise St. fan.

Typical zoob. Too embarrassed to admit she's a tdS fan after that 48-24 drubbing in SLC last year.

It must be a pathetic existence to have to pretend to be another school's fan when your school is such a consistent disappointment.

How marvelous.

GO UTES!!!

Ya I would rather he threw for 320 and 3 interceptions a game just like your boy. Seriously a Senior QB with 10+ picks already, that's Hilarious.
