BYU is fortunate to have two great TEs this season; and a QB who is able to get the ball to them.

Thanks Dennis for all of your hard work and dedication. You're helping return BYU to the type of program die-hard Cougar fans have come to expect.

Now, time to raise the bar another notch against TCU this week!

Go Cougs!

"He attracts defenders like a video-game bad guy."

I think I know what you mean by this, but this makes no sense. This is a very bizarre analogy.

"He also passed Brown, of 1980 "Miracle Bowl" fame, as the second-most productive touchdown tight end at BYU with 18 career scores. Ironic, it was on the field Brown made that storied touchdown catch against SMU."

What is "ironic" about that? Just becaue something is coincidental doesn't mean it is ironic. I copied this definition from dictionary dot com to help you "Poignantly contrary to what was expected or intended"

Regardless, Dennis Pitta is an awesome Tight End. I'm glad he is a Cougar.

Pita is awesome for certain. But, so is Andrew George. He would be a star on any other team. The receivers and backs aren't too shabby either (rarely drop a ball), which helps get Pita even bigger numbers. It really is a team effort. Congrats to the offense.

I am, however, worried about next week. TCU is looking formidable. Seems like Max struggles when he gets pressured and when defense lets us get behind. Lets hope they get healthy for next week and come out and play like they did in Dallas! Go COUGS!

Couldn't agree more Dick. In Missouri we don't get to watch many of the Cougar games. However, almost every game I've watched Pitta has played a key role, even with teams keying on him. Your comments about Pitta are right on!
Hey Dick... | 8:26 a.m. Oct. 18, 2009
I agree wholeheartedly.
RockOn | 9:50 a.m. Oct. 18, 2009
His TD was amazing. Hall put it where NO ONE else could have gotten it and I doubt few receivers could have caught it. Pitta was exceptionally focused to take that big body, stand an inch from the out of bounds, reach up, catch it as he's leaning out of bounds. One for the highlights.

SDSU defense is hugely improved. Glad the Cougs hung in there.

Sorry! Disagree!

He maybe could be more grammatically correct, but would then be very boring to read. Dick is good (yes he is!) BECAUSE of all the picturesque speech. I marvel that he keeps coming up with them.

Sometimes he throws a dud (personally I wasn't offended last week by the valet comparison, but I can understand some taking umbridge), but it is always interesting.

Thanks, Dick! You make it fun!

Just stay out of Mr Wilson's yard and you'll do just fine.

I agree, he's a fantastic player. It must be those Yelvington hands.
The Truth | 1:17 p.m. Oct. 18, 2009
Only journalists, or people who write for newspapers, throw around phrases like "the best ever". Why not just say he is a great player and applaud his performance? Why try to start arguments? Contrary to what journalists, newspapers writers and ESPN announcers (because neither newspaper writers or ESPN announcers are journalists) think, controversies like these don't sell newspapers and that is....THE TRUTH
Did you know? | 1:54 p.m. Oct. 18, 2009
That the kUUgs are 1-0 when Hall rushes for more than 45 yards?

I will miss the TCU game due to a Ward Halloween Party that I am in charge of!!!! Gave my tickets away to my sister. We need lots of noise cougar fans. Help that Defense and show SMU what Cougar football is really like!
citizen16 | 10:57 p.m. Oct. 18, 2009
I'm constantly amazed at how many great catches Pitta makes on a weekly basis. He makes so many of them look easy. It's great fun to watch. He's definitely one of the best receivers BYU has ever had.

And, who would go to a Ward Halloween Party instead of the BYU-TCU game???! Where are you priorities? ;-) If you're in charge of it, then why did you schedule it to conflicts with one of the biggest games of the year? Here's a suggestion: delegate.
CALBLUE | 10:57 p.m. Oct. 18, 2009
I was at the Vegas game and went to the San Deigo game. I love BYU but they have no chance with TCU. Yes Pitta and the offense will score but our defense will give up more than 40 points.
Priorities | 1:47 a.m. Oct. 19, 2009
Why would a ward schedule a party during the game. Someone has their priorities fouled up. Halloween has to do with monsters and ghosts. This ward needs to rethink what is most important. Dad and son and family sitting in the game or at home together watching the game. Halloween comes every year, but and undefeated TCU at BYU only comes once in a great while. The game is at 5:30 pm. The party could be at noon, have a great lunch go room to room trick or treating and be done by 3 pm.

I also wonder why BYU allowed the MTN. to schedule the game so late. This game should have been scheuled at 1:00 pm, plenty of time for the parade and people get to the game, then go home and do the family trick or treating.
Pitta's a sportsman | 6:51 a.m. Oct. 19, 2009
The radio announcers noted that Pitta never complains or comments to officials, like many other players. He simply gets up and returns to his team without saying anything negative, each time he is the victim of pass interference.

just sayin'...
Mike | 10:10 a.m. Oct. 19, 2009
The Bishop of that ward must be a Ute fan. Scheduling a Halloween party? Why not the next Saturday which is actually Halloween?
TCU | 10:20 a.m. Oct. 19, 2009
How can you say we have no chance against TCU when we beat Oklahoma? We just need to play the same type of defense we played against Oklahoma. More blitzes and stunts... We can't let Dalton have all day in the pocket. Big risks big rewards.
adviso | 10:21 a.m. Oct. 19, 2009
Please use Dennis (and George) on Saturday on every two out of three downs! -- both as a target and as a decoy. He will be the key to a BYU win. He can frustrate TCU's defense. When we lost to FSU, it was an ALL COACHING problem. This time I hope the coaches will do their jobs - if not then they should be ....hmmm..you know....
actually | 10:28 a.m. Oct. 19, 2009
According to the commentators of the OU-Baylor game two weeks ago, Jermaine Gresham is best TE in the nation.
stone cold sober | 11:42 a.m. Oct. 19, 2009
I think it's all up to BYU's wideouts if we can get significant points against TCU. TCU won't respect our speed at wideout (single coverge), and will put heavier coverage on Pitta and George and Unga. Our defense has to step-up. (If the defense can't stop TCU maybe our breakaway grass will.) No more of the FSU debacle please. Exciting game ahead. Go Cougs!!
J.D. | 12:08 p.m. Oct. 19, 2009
Jermaine Greshman may, in theory, be the best Tight End in the nation but he was out with a season ending injury before the season even started. Contrary to popular belief you have to go out and continue to prove that you are the best. Jermaine Gresham will probably be one of the highest draft picks in the upcoming draft but not because of anything he has done this year.

Pitta is a great TE and I hope he gets his shot at playing on Sunday.
BYUfreak | 12:43 p.m. Oct. 19, 2009
The MTN didn't schedule this game. It's on V.S. Lay off the dude about the Halloween party!! GO COUGARS!!!

Thanks Dick. I always enjoy your articles, nit-picky distractors notwithstanding.
What about Mckay? | 1:42 p.m. Oct. 19, 2009
Has anyone heard how his rehab is going? Is there any chance that he will play on Saturday? Even if he were to play would not be 100% I guess. Dratts. Also, how can I watch the game if I only have direct t.v.?
Anonymous | 2:04 p.m. Oct. 19, 2009
What a wonderfully touching article. It always just full of so much emotion. I can practically see a picture when im done reading Dick's articles.

Sure hopin' that the Cougs can upset TCU. If not, hopin' that the Horned Frogs bust the B(C)S.
JOHNNY BOY ??? | 6:51 a.m. Oct. 20, 2009
Wow! No mention of Johnny Harline at all in the list of great TE at BYU? I think he had the best hands of all of them and should at least be top 3..... if not #1!
