Wow, 600 wins. That makes YBU's 500 seem lacking in something.

Re: First Comment

BYU was even worse here in SD. Pathetic.

See you at LES next month!
Penalties | 12:13 a.m. Oct. 18, 2009
Dang, 110 yards of penalties!

That's the same as erasing Eddie Wide's rushing stats.

I like the aggressiveness, but we gotta reign in the penalties, especially the personal fouls.

I dunno where you are from but here in America 35-15 is not ugly
We'll take it | 12:23 a.m. Oct. 18, 2009
Go Utes! Three home W's before the battle in Fort Worth between the only unbeatens in the conference.

Wow, the Coug fans are complaining about Ute fans being "BYU haters, not Ute fans". Well, you can thank people like this guy for evidence against the other side as well. Neither win was pretty from either team, and that was obvious. And both teams were extremely bad. Get over it, neither win was better, they were both just wins. I still will root for my Utes! (Just no more penalties like tonight, please!)

"survived a shaky offensive performance"? The game was never in doubt. "Survive" is a bit over the top.

Our win wasn't as impressive as Florida State's woodshedding of the TDS, but we'll take it!

We didn't win as well as BYU did over the Rebels though... I think it will be tough next month, see what TCU does. They were picked to win the conference.
RE:600 | 4:47 a.m. Oct. 18, 2009
The actual record seems to be 607 wins, which is great, but remember, Utah has played 164 more games in its history (since 1905) than BYU (since 1922), so the compared win/loss records are Utah 0.58949 and BYU 0.56839, pretty darn close.

But over the past 50 seasons BYU leads 28-22 (and that despite playing only 22 home versuss 28 away games during the time span). The past 40 BYU leads 25-15; the past 30 BYU leads 19-11; the past 20 even at 10-10; the past 10 Utah leads 4-6.

So it seems that Utah is getting better, but comparing Utah's 607 with BYU's 494 is like comparing apples and oranges; percentages are the only correct measurement and Utah has only a .0211 difference over the past 87 years.

Come back in 2012 and brag about your great season, this year your won't be winning a BCS bowl; it's not leap year this year.

The Utes got lucky. | 6:41 a.m. Oct. 18, 2009
Then again, so did the Cougars. Neither team looked very impressive against "lesser" competition.

However, having watched both games I can say that the BYU offense looked much better than the Ute offense did.

If the UNLV had a decent offense that could score in the red zone the Utes would have been in big trouble.
BYU/Utah | 7:56 a.m. Oct. 18, 2009
Neither win was all that great. I am a long time BYU fan, and BYU should have beat SDSU alot more than they did, and Utah beating UNLV 35-15 wasn't that great considering BYU put up 57 points against them...

Lets just wait until we face eachother at the end of the year...
Great win! | 8:57 a.m. Oct. 18, 2009
The Utes look great. We lose 2 coordinators, three defensive players to the NFL and our best QB ever and we're 5-1???
Amazing. This really should have been a rebuilding year. The coaching staff has done a phenomenal job of recruiting and coaching because the drop off from BCS success to the following season has been very limited.
Discovega | 9:06 a.m. Oct. 18, 2009
THe Utes will do well for the remainer of the year even again TCU...'ol Whittingham is setting the stage for 2010 which will make 2008 look like kids play. Think long term but play to win each week.

I love this game!
Utah Man | 9:11 a.m. Oct. 18, 2009
What irks me is that after next week we will only have one ranked team to play which won't help us move up alot unless of course they are in the top 5!
BYUte fan | 9:31 a.m. Oct. 18, 2009
What a great win by both teams. I hate when comparrisons are made. In conference teams should be getting better every week. I see that with all of the MWC teams. Utah and BYU will get every teams A game. This is how it should be. It makes for a very exciting end of the year game. Go Utes! Go Cougs!
Note to Facer | 9:50 a.m. Oct. 18, 2009
Omar Morgan was a cornerback for BYU. UNLV's qb is Omar Clayton
Re: The Utes got lucky. | 10:24 a.m. Oct. 18, 2009
Wrong you are. Although not pretty, the Ute victory was never in doubt. The Y was the team fortunate to escape with a win. They allowed SDSU to hang around deep into the 3rd quarter tied at 21.

They better play alot better than this or they'll be steamrolled at home by a superior TCU team.
Dave | 10:33 a.m. Oct. 18, 2009
Come on Utes, this is the same UNLV team that has allowed 60 ppg the last 2 games, plus over 600 yards offense and the best you could do is 35 and that is with a defensive touchdown and another defensive play putting the ball on the 8. Either UNLV decided to step up a play or the Ute offense is in worse shape then suspected.

It's great to see Utah get it together as a team. They are showing some great promise. Robert Johnson is the man and T. Cain is coming into his own.

Honestly, I'm a bit nervous about TCU. Though I'm hopeful, the realist in me thinks BYU and Utah are going to have a tough time beating the Frogs -- especially in Texas.

However, come November 28, I think Utah is going to have a surprise in store for the kewgies. Utah gets better every week while kewgs seem to be falling apart.
They should be happy... | 12:08 p.m. Oct. 18, 2009

Sagarin Ratings:

TCU 11
Utah 18
BYU 28

Looks like Oregon is helping Utah much more then OK is helping the Koogs.

Happy with game? | 1:26 p.m. Oct. 18, 2009
I hadn't heard the score of the game. While reading the article I was expecting 60 to zip or something. Oh well, good job gaining 327 yards on UNLV. The team who should feel good is UNLV, their defense must be top 10.

No doubt I love my frogs and I believe we will cream both the Zoobs and Utah this year. I still tip my hat to you Utes because I believe that you're better than the Y and I think you will beat them this year to...Can't wait to roll into Cougar town next week and hand Harvey's and Maxie's heads to the rest of the team.
ya | 2:48 p.m. Oct. 18, 2009
UNLV's qb is omar clayton, not morgan. well done sports editor
BYU-UTAH | 3:04 p.m. Oct. 18, 2009
It's always a toss-up when BYU and Utah play. BYU always has a high powered offense and Utah has a stingy defense. It's the same this year. If BYU doesn't turn it over then it'll be close, Utah's defense keeping the score down, BYU's offense still scoring enough to make it close. It's a toss up this year.

And besides, the BYU-Utah gave will be a battle for second place and the LV Bowl. TCU will run the table, pass BSU, and be BCS bound. I love the Utes and Cougars, but they won't get by TCU this year.

i was at the gaem and UNLV has ALOT of problems! half there team where laughing and playing around! wow! but great win utah! a win is a win
Utes play in question | 3:49 p.m. Oct. 18, 2009
I love my Utes! Despite losing some of our top players to the NFL and both offensive and defensive coordinators, the Utes are hanging in there. However, their play scares me on both offense and defense. After every victory, I keep hearing, "we have a lot of areas we need to improve on now..." Well, the Utes need to do it and do it quickly or they will get steamrolled against TCU and BYU in the next few weeks. Doesn't seem like they have improved much since the Oregon loss and I know they will not survive against TCU and BYU on the road playing the way they are. This is my opinion agree or disagree, play calling is ridiculous on both sides of the ball, defense still giving up HUGE plays, not good. Offensive playing call, we are slow at wide receiver. So far, I've seen Cain sit in the pocket for almost five seconds with good protection and still has the ball in his hands forcing him to scramble or run, sign of lack of speed when no one is open. Losing Coach Andersen was huge, as for our offense, poor playing calling. Go UUUUTES!!!
Re: 600 | 4:22 p.m. Oct. 18, 2009
Uh lets see.......Utah started football in 1892 and BYU started football in 1922.....30 years longer playing football.....well DUHHHHHHH. That would be like an average of 3.5 wins a year over those 30 years, how impressive.
RE: the Utes got lucky | 6:40 p.m. Oct. 18, 2009
Since when would one consider a 20 point victory "lucky?" Guess Bronco was right the zoobs are UNEDUCATED.

"having watched both games I can say that the BYU offense looked much better than the Ute offense did." Gee I wonder why? Utah lost its offensive coordinator, star QB, all receivers but 1, and all-conference RB. But when all is said and done it doesn't really matter b/c we still find ways to win!!!

"If the UNLV had a decent offense that could score in the red zone the Utes would have been in big trouble." It's no surprise that Utah defense gets in the head of offenses and shuts them down. We did it to you last year and will do it to you again this year. Why don't you just focus on not getting throttled by TCU again. Thanks champ!
settle down fans | 8:21 p.m. Oct. 18, 2009
our defense held a good offense to 15 points and still won by 20 points. Stop complaining about a solid win on the road a win is a win and this team is 5-1 on a rebuilding year with 4 of their first 6 games on the road. Get off their backs and realize this is a pretty solid program.

Re: Re: 600 @ 4:47... You forgot one important stat: If the y won every game for the next two decades the overall series would be tied.

And regarding winnning a BCS game. You really gonna talk BCS smack? I'd rather win every 4 years than NEVER have been and NEVER will go!
Hey Newt4Life! | 9:28 a.m. Oct. 20, 2009
Never say Never... they have not been to a BCS, you got 1 right, but you cannot say that BYU will never get to a BCS bowl. That is the only reason I would like the BCS to continue a couple of more years, so that BYU can get to a BCS bowl and show all you newtie smartalecks that BYU is every bit as good as your second rate team.
